It’s been a long time since I was last in a youth hostel, and as a now 45 year old man there is probably a reason for this. Arriving late on the Tuesday night with fond memories of dorm parties and tequila slammers, I was greeted by what I initially thought was captain Jack Sparrow, but who actually transpired to be a very friendly chap who helped us to navigate the intricacies of the main entrance. Door buzzed, suitcases lifted up the stairs and ugh who let mum and dad in looks absorbed, we were handed our keys by a lovely member of the team alongside vouchers for two free shots. Enthusiastically we were informed that the bar was open until 1am that night, although we had missed the pub crawl for the evening. I’m flattered I guess, however we decided to give the shots a miss in favour of a nice sleep. Yup, Father Time catches up with us all… We had a private double with a shared bathroom, and although very small it was comfortable enough. The pillow has perhaps seen better days, but the A/C was a life saver! Spending the days walking around town and doing some gentle exploring, the nights were largely spent for myself at least in the bar area downstairs. It’s a small but perfectly functional area, and in all honesty wasn’t the screaming mess of teenagers away from home for the first time that I had been expecting. At 3 euros a pint I was certainly very happy to sit and read whilst various cool young things did their thing in the background. Declining participation in the pub crawl for a second time, I was tempted with the tapas tasting but plans for the night changed due to friends arriving a day early and diner reservations being made. From a comfort point of view, our bathroom was shared between three double rooms I believe on the third floor, and this was never an issue. I attribute this to the fact that we were likely on very different schedules with us going out for the day and back for the night, as opposed to the perhaps more night based activities of our fellow residents. Bedroom like I said small, but hey, who cares, we weren’t here to sit in a room all day. The breakfast was absolutely fine, and for 5 euros a day you really cannot complain. All in all very happy with my stay, though peeking into an open dorm room one day my god I wouldn’t have survived the week unless you could take 25 years off me! Good job though overall Sant Jordi, and I’d certainly consider staying again - safe, friendly and somewhere I’m sure 20 year old me would have had a blast!

This is a nice guest house in an old historical building. It is located in an apartment on 4th floor, there is a lift. There is no reception, so you just get a code to get in anytime. The location is very good: right in front of the Parque metro station. Our room's window looked inside, so there was no noise from outside. The mattresses are high quality and new. The kitchen has all the necessary for eating and cooking. There is also a large eating area and a covered balcony. There are about 8 rooms, 2 common toilets, 2 common bathrooms each with several showers. Apparently the sink faucets have only cold water which can be incovenient for brushing teeth with cold water. The shower needs to be frequently reactivated by pressing a button. This saves water, but from the room you can hear guests taking shower across the corridor and constantly relaunching water. However, for the price the place is excellent.

Since I made the reservation, I asked to pay cash on arrival. I spoke with Francisco and with João Adrega. Both said it was possible, but they said that I needed to say the exact time of my arrival and I was talking by message on Booking since the 26th of February (my stay would start on the 3rd of March) with João and he insisted that he wanted the ”exact time ' of my arrival so he could send a member of his team to receive cash. I said I would let him know when I bought the ticket and I did. The bus left late and I let him know. I kept sending messages even when I arrived in Lisbon on the 3rd march and I called him saying that I was at the station and would take a taxi to get to the hotel quickly. But when I arrived at the Ascensor da Bica Lisbon Apartments, there was no one waiting for me. I enter to make my check in in the machine and called them by phone. A girl answered and said that no one would meet me to receive the payment because my credit card had already been charged. I was angry and asked to speak with João and I argued with him he apologized but I didn't accept it because he deceived me. Then I found out that my card was charged for the daily rates on February 28th. Between February 26th and March 3rd, João kept deceiving me: saying he was going to send someone from the group to receive the money and it was a lie because they had already debited. When I booked it was clearly described ”pay at the accommodation”, I sent a message asking if I could pay there in cash and they accepted. But it's all fake because I didn't pay for the accommodation, they charged BEFORE and BEFORE I even arrived in the city. On the 28th I was in Coimbra and they charged me. I had explained that in Brazil the charges and fees were high for those who pay by credit card and João just tricked me! I was irate and so was my sister, with his dishonesty deceiving us for 5 days. Unfortunate. I lost confidence because in addition to the advance, undue and deception I asked for the invoice and he said he would only send it at checkout, I insisted because it was clearly written in the reservation that the invoice would be delivered after payment when the person requested it. I sent requests every day and he sent me unintelligible things by messenger, and I started to receive a pdf with the Lisbon Apartments and so far I have not received anything. The location is good but the place is very poorly designed, a good designer would do better: the bathroom is terrible because it has no insulation and you hear everything the other person does. The sink could be inside the bathroom if the doors were sliding but it is in the middle of the accommodation occupying a space where you could put the bed and leave it away from the sink and stove. Sliding doors would have been a smarter solution in the bathroom which has another problem when showering, the hot water is not enough for two people and if one person takes a shower a little longer the water starts to get cold. They could

Liked: Lovely hotel. Great location. Friendly staff. Lisa was particularly lovely. Room. Room 202. Comfy. Hard wood floors. Gorgeous view. Firm mattress. Arm chair. Tricky windows to close. Few hangers, hairdryer and mini safe in open wardrobe. Shower gel and shampoo provided. Good sized shower. Breakfast. Great selection. Fresh bread basket of rolls, croissants. Granola, fruit salad, natural yogurt. Cold meats, cheeses. Boiled eggs - can request scrambled and I saw a couple being given fried eggs. Mini savoury pastries, custard tarts, cake, mini pancakes, sliced bread to toast. Lactose free milk, soy milk. Juices. Teas, Nespresso machine. 5pm tea time. Beautiful Living Room space with comfy sofas to chill out on. Nice cake. Teas. Nespresso machine. Disliked: Room: Smaller than envisaged. You can hear the footsteps of guest in the above room. The room is located across the hall from the breakfast room so you may hear crockery / glass type noises fro staff preparing the breakfast. The bed would move very easily and I had to remember to push it back against the walk before sleeping. Small bathroom with awkward door position. No shelf in shower just a couple of hooks - awkward placed Shower drain cover not bolted down Tea time: No fresh milk by default. Called reception once and had some delivered to room. Another time there was no answer at reception for over 10 minutes and I gave up. My biggest concern was with the water bottles in my room and at breakfast. The hotel reuses glass bottles - great. The lids however have mould inside them. More careful attention is needed to monitoring this and changing more frequently.

Had read mixed reviews about this hotel but I can honestly say it was very good. The location is great and staff were friendly and helpful. The whole hotel was clean and well maintained. It was quiet and guests were respectful. To address some of the negative things I'd read: - the windows were small and the room was quite dark however this is an old property that is on a narrow street therfore this is just part of the buildings make up. I was only in the room to rest or sleep so this did not impact my stay. - there are no electrical sockets next to the bed so I'd recommend a 3m charger cable if you want your phone next to the bed while charging. Luckily I had one so this was not an issue. The positives: - hot shower that had good water pressure. - bright bathroom with natural light and a window that opened. - hotel and room were very clean and smelled fresh. - helpful and friendly staff. - fridge in room. - felt safe as a solo traveller. I'd be happy to stay here again.
