First the pros. The price was right for the Hudson valley. The river is indeed visible from the front porch. There was off-street parking in the back of the house. The room appeared clean although there was a large stain and peeling paper on the bathroom ceiling. Beyond that I was very disappointed. I sent an email asking about checkin arrangements and received no reply. I had to call the day before to find out what the checkin window was as there had been no communication and there was nothing on the website or in the confirmation email. I was told that I would get checkin information the following morning. By 3pm I had heard nothing. I called again from the road and got voice mail. I then got three text messages in short succession, the first with the wrong room and wrong entry code (which meant I now had the code to someone else's room.) An additional message contained directions to parking in the back of the house - which I wouldn't have known otherwise as it is on a different street than the house's address. No one greeted me on arrival and when I came downstairs the next morning the gentleman proprietor acted like he didn't know who I was. Breakfast was a roll, coffee (after I asked twice for it), and an offer to get myself an individual commercial vanilla yogurt from the fridge or to boil myself an egg. The town is not quaint. It is run down and filled with liquor and small grocery storefronts. The few restaurants did not look inviting or clean. When I asked for directions to local hiking the proprieter provided verbal directions without street names for a local park, whose name he couldn't remember. There are no directions in the room itself and it was unclear how to lock the door behind me or what TV channels were available. If I hadn't asked initially I would have had no idea what time "breakfast" was. There were no glasses for water or Kleenex in the room. I left after the first night.
