I write this review to share our experience with you, like so many one star reviews it comes down to one or a few moments, we share this purely as a warning / watch out so people can hopefully avoid the same experience. First and foremost, Tom & Johns has a hotel, a shop and a pool bar, however the key thing to consider is that pool bar is a completely separate business. The pool bar is leased and operated by Ewa and Yanni, who also operate the Trenta Nove apartments behind the pool bar. We used the pool bar on our first day, the drinks were quite pricey and the food was very below average. One day, having decided not to use the pool bar again based on cost and quality, while staying in the hotel of Tom and Johns, having bought a soft drink at the shop at Tom and Johns, decided to drink said drink at the pool bar of Tom and Johns. Happy days the pool was great. Fast forward by two days and the Yanni who runs the pool bar, comes over to my partner and I and presents us with an empty can of Fanta, and declares, “I’ve watched you on CCTV, you are not allowed to bring outside food and drink here”. Two main issues with this, number 1 - unsure of Greek rules or policies but it does feel strange to be told you are being monitored in this way as opposed to any signage. 2 - if like us you booked a self catering package holiday, to be told you cannot bring in “outside” food or drink is sort of contradictory to booking a self catering break. So be it we thought, and being stubborn, each time we were thirsty we went to the shop over the next few days and drank on our balcony before going to the pool bar. On our final full day of our holiday, we were ambushed at the front gate by Eva, the pool bar owner, who told us that we are not welcome to use the facilities unless we purchase some food or drink from the pool bar. It’s our last day we think, so we go and setup on a sun lounger then go to bar, bearing in mind we had just had our breakfast and it’s only 10am, I order two bottles of water, “That’s not enough, you need to order more than water, you need to buy soft drinks or food” declared Eva. Fast forward and we are now in a position where not only can you not bring in outside food, but you must also purchase food to use the facilities. I wish that these two businesses were separate on tripadvisor so that I could rate them separately, because they absolutely are separate in the way they operate. My advice to anyone staying here, is that there is so so much choice of fantastic pool bars in Tsilivi, we found the one at St Denis, literally across the road to be absolutely fantastic, cheaper, better quality, friendlier and superior in every possible way. Don’t waste your time at this pathetic excuse of a pool bar!
