I recently stayed at Mercure Sapporo, and it was a fantastic experience. The hotel’s location is excellent, with easy access to shopping, dining, and public transportation. The rooms were clean, spacious, and well-maintained, offering great comfort after a day of exploring. The staff was friendly and accommodating, providing excellent service throughout. Highly recommended for both leisure and business travelers.

Hotel was okay, near eateries and kobini (seico) is nearby. Abit of a distance from the Hakodate JR station. If driving, please return back to hotel earlier as car park lots are taken up fast (on a first come first basis).

We stayed in this accomodation as a family of 6. All of us loved the cleanliness of the rooms and the beds, and we all have more than enough beds for a comfortable sleep. Each room has its own Air Conditioning, and two of the bedrooms come with a baby crib. The property is very close to Farm Tomita so it is highly recommended if you plan to stay nearby the flower fields.

We’ve stayed there to visit zoo the next day. It was clean, spacious. Staff is helpful. If you are going there by car, the parking is behind the hotel. There is shopping mall next to hotel. If you did not by zoo ticket, you can arrange it there plus the shuttle bus from hotel to zoo.

Hotel is clean. Was given unintentionally a smoking room on the smoking 9th floor. Amenities only toothbrushes given in the room n the rest self service at lobby. Onsen was at B1, men use key card access, ladies with password. Car park guided to outdoor parking 120m away @¥1,100/day. Laundry at lobby next to smoking room. Washing was ¥300, detergent ¥50. Drying at ¥200/30 minutes. One hour my clothes still damp. Ladies at front desk friendly. Only one older male was rude. Hotel is walking distance to most popular JR Train Station with adjoining Aeon Mall. The food court is on the ground floor. 4th floor was a nicer place to dine. Heiwa-dōri Shopping Park or Walking Street is not impressive with minimal tourist from 12-14/6/25.

This was our second stay at the Park View Hotel and we were thoroughly happy with the service and room I recommend anyone who wants to stay near the city center of Sapporo but away from the loud bustle of Susukino to stay at this very comfortable hotel, as the beds here are at a higher quality than most you can expect in Japan

The hotel is directly opposite the exit of JR Hakodate Station and just across the bus stop area. Basically, all Hakodate attractions can be reached by bus. It takes about 15 minutes to walk back to the hotel from the cross street. If you are too lazy to wait for the streetcar after eating clown burgers for dinner, you can take a slow walk back. The room is clean. You need to swipe your room card at the hotel entrance after 11 pm to enter. There is a ramen shop downstairs (within 10 steps from the hotel entrance) and Nemuro Hanamaru (30 steps from the hotel entrance). It is recommended to eat during off-peak hours.

GGastnutzerI recently stayed at a hotel that exceeded my expectations. The facilities were impeccably clean, making the stay very comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful and of high quality, offering a great start to each day. I also enjoyed the on-site hot springs, which were incredibly relaxing. Additionally, the room had a beautiful view, enhancing the overall experience. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a delightful stay.

PPietro150The Smile Hotel Premium Hakodate Goryokaku is a typical Japanese business hotel, so although the photos of the rooms may look as though the rooms are reasonably spacious, in reality it’s just a typical business hotel, with minimal space.  While this should not be a big issue for many guests, if you’ve not experienced it before, be ready for a rather space limited experience.  Having said that, the room was quite clean and apart from some scuff marks on the walls, it presented quite well.  It’s also important to note, that since it’s a business hotel the bathroom is quite small, with the bathroom wash basin protruding into the bath tub & shower area and the toilet was clearly designed for significantly smaller users.  Apart from changing towels, providing new slippers and replenishing coffee & tea supplies, there was no servicing of my room over the duration of my 3-night stay.  This is all normal, so be ready for it. The biggest annoyance was that there was no air conditioning available during the period I stayed.  This is hotel policy at this time of the year, and the management clearly think that guests have no right to control the temperature, and therefore enjoy some level of comfort in their room.  Because of this, on my first night the room temperature was approximately 25°c (although I couldn’t turn the air conditioning on, the control unit displayed the actual room temperature), which when combined with the fact that the bed has an arctic standard duvet (or futon - whatever you want to call it), the temperature of the room was NOT conducive to restful sleep.  When I enquired about this the next morning, the front desk clerk bluntly said “open the window”, which of course I had tried to do during the night, but for some reason the handle to open and close the window had been removed, making it impossible to open the window.  The clerk kindly offered to go to my room and open the window (presumably using a special tool) once I had left the room for the day, which he did.  The difference in room temperature was quite noticeable when I returned that the evening, but why this policy in the first place, and the belligerence and attitude of management about guest comfort is beyond me. The other issue was the WiFi, which was patchy and unreliable on my floor.  The only way I could connect any of my devices (2 phones & 1 tablet), was to go to the lobby, connect and then return to my room.  Once a connection had been established, I was able to reconnect whenever I returned to my room, however the strength of the WiFi signal varied considerably when making calls using various apps (e.g., WhatsApp, Line and FB Messenger) and therefore the call stability was unreliable with calls frequently dropping out.  When I mentioned this to front desk staff, they offered to reset the WiFi on my floor, however it made little difference. The above matters (air conditioning and WiFi) are all things that are taken for granted these days and are expected of any reasonable hotel, so to experience the difficulties outlined indicates to me that the hotel management is not really serious about guest satisfaction or comfort. Draw what conclusions you will from this review, but from my perspective, it’s is unlikely I would stay at this hotel again when I next return to Hakodate.

YYi ShieanFrom the moment we arrived at Mizu no Uta, Tsuruga Resort at Lake Shikotsu, we were enveloped in an atmosphere of tranquil luxury. Valet parking greeted us, and we were swiftly escorted to a path lined with zen music, setting the tone for a stay where every detail exudes serenity. Upon entering the reception, a majestic wooden carving of an owl, a powerful symbol of protection in Ainu culture, watched over us. In a delightful and intimate touch, we were asked to remove our shoes – a gesture that immediately made the resort feel like a sanctuary. Walking barefoot on soft wooden floors in such a refined environment felt like the ultimate indulgence. Live harp music floated through the air as we were led past a live fireplace, its warm flames inviting guests to roast marshmallows, adding a whimsical, yet homely feel to the elegant surroundings. The staff, attentive yet discreet, escorted us to our room via separate lifts, ensuring our luggage was seamlessly handled. Entering the room, we were struck by its sheer spaciousness. A half-sized fridge, thoughtfully included, perfectly stored all our chilled treats from the road trip. But the true star was the view: an uninterrupted panorama of lush greenery, stretching out to meet the serene waters of Lake Shikotsu. The combination of the stunning scenery and the luxurious in-room robe made us feel like chaebols, lounging in opulence and shielded from the cool lakeside breeze. As for the dining, the buffet at Mizu no Uta is nothing short of spectacular. Where many buffets struggle to balance quantity and quality, this resort excels at both. Highlights included a live dessert station and a live pizza-making corner, where thin-crust pizzas, surprisingly better than those from Furano’s famed Cheese Factory, were expertly prepared. The spread also featured an incredible assortment of sashimi – the freshest I encountered during my 1.5-week trip across various hotels. The salmon and mackerel, both raw and uniquely marinated in glass jars, were exceptional. The hot dishes maintained the same elevated standard. A simple tomato-based clam spaghetti was transformed by the quality of ingredients, while even the sautéed kailan was enhanced with the addition of Parma ham. Local produce, such as the fresh broccoli used in the cream-based dishes, lent an unmistakable brightness to each bite. The combination of Japanese and Western cuisine was balanced beautifully, with every plate delivering a sense of thoughtful craftsmanship. Of course, no stay at a lakeside resort would be complete without a visit to the onsen bath. While slightly smaller than the one at Lake Akan, the onsen here is far superior in cleanliness and upkeep. Conveniently, the bath is stocked with towels, so there’s no need to carry your own from the room. The experience is further enhanced by a sauna illuminated with soothing blue light, adding a layer of tranquility to the ritual. The open-air onsen is another highlight. For those who appreciate the purity of nature, the bath even features drinkable Lake Shikotsu water, renowned as one of Japan’s top 100 spring waters. This thoughtful touch, coupled with the stunning views, creates an immersive experience that is equal parts restorative and luxurious.

GGastnutzerI would like to share a few words with you about our feeling of coming back to your Park Hyatt Hanazono hotel from 29/3/2024 to 3/4/2024. We are beginners of skiing, therefore, our first choice is a ski-in and ski-out hotel. Therefore, last year we came to your hotel and we came back again for further improvement of our skiing. We travelled a long way from the airport to your hotel for almost over 3 hours. However, we didn't receive a warm welcome from your hotel by the time we got out of our car. By the time we checked-in, the handling time took much longer than I expected, maybe we all felt tired after long travelling and wanted to go up to our room. Another guest who was sitting next to me seemed to complain about your service to another staff.. When we arrived at our room, only 3 mandarins were put on the table to welcome us but they did not look very attractive. Next morning, the breakfast was as good as last year, because nothing more had changed. But again, not very welcoming. Our dishes were piling up on the table long before they were taken away. That was not the case last year. We asked guest service to fold up the sofa bed as we wanted it to be more spacious. However, I called several to get it done when we came back from skiing in the evening. But we clearly said we could do it when we were out in the daytime. We booked 2 adults and 1 child, however, we could only find 3 adult clothes for onsen. We called guest service to provide us with child cloth for onsen. However, after tidying up, they provided us with another 3 sets of clothes for onsen again. So, my daughter wore oversized clothes to the onsen. It was not like this when we first came here last year. Luckily, on the third day, we met a new and young manager during breakfast, we received a warm welcoming smile for the first time. We chatted for a while and my daughter felt happy with him. Last year, my daughter made some friends here with your staff and learnt some Japanese from your staff. That made her like the Japanese culture and language. Ironically, after folding up the sofa bed, they mistakenly mixed up my daughter white colored soft toy - cinnamoroll - with the bed sheets for the laundry. Luckily, maybe with the help of the young guy, we found it back. My daughter was so delighted, thanks for all your efforts, but however, the soft toy had been shrunk by the laundry machine. The inner tubing was one of our favors in Park Hyatt Hotel, however, it looked obscenity and did not match with the natural scenery and the well-designed architecture surroundings at all. It looked like a facility in a developing country. Next Easter holiday was a late holiday, maybe no more snow for skiing. Originally we had planned to come again with whole families of six for skiing. Maybe it is high time for us to look for another ski-in ski-out hotel, though I have promised the young guy to meet him next year.

YYi ShieanOur third consecutive stay in Japan’s onsen scene brought us to Kitakobushi Shiretoko Hotel & Resort. Though labelled as a 3-star hotel, this resort is the very definition of an underrated masterpiece. From the moment we arrived, it became clear this experience would rival any five-star destination we’ve ever visited. Our room was a slice of paradise—spacious, serene, and offering a panoramic view of the breathtaking sea. Perfect for a moment of calm after a day of exploring. It was hard to tear ourselves away from the window, with its infinite horizon stretching beyond the blue waters. The bath experience was equally indulgent, with Dyson and Refa hairdryers in the public bath area. The soap and shampoo provided in the public baths? Luxurious, premium products that they also retail on-site. A small but significant touch that elevates this from your average onsen. Where do I even begin with the buffet? It was nothing short of culinary theatre. Imagine live cooking stations serving up dishes with the flair of a fine dining restaurant. From sashimi so fresh, it redefined how I think about lean tuna—the texture was almost reminiscent of beef!—to the incredibly generous portions of salmon roe. Each dish was top-tier, but the dessert station truly took my breath away. A unique pumpkin and sweet potato creation was the surprise highlight, and I couldn’t help but indulge in multiple helpings of the organic apple, crisp and fresh like it was picked that very morning. For fitness enthusiasts, there’s even a decent gym—a rarity for many onsen hotels. Meanwhile, the 24-hour lounge provides a range of delectable snacks, all of which are sold in their store. And though the prices may seem steep, the taste makes them worth every yen. The free daily scoop of Peter Beier ice cream was simply divine. Made with Hokkaido milk, the vanilla was already a showstopper, but the pistachio took the experience to another level. After this, it was impossible not to purchase their chocolate truffles—pricey, but easily worth the splurge. The experience extends outside the hotel, where an outdoor foot bath awaits with a view that will make you feel like you’ve entered another world. As long as the weather cooperates, this is an experience not to be missed. In short, Kitakobushi Shiretoko Hotel & Resort might officially be a 3-star, but in our hearts, it’s a five-star experience through and through. A perfect blend of luxury, nature, and comfort, it’s an onsen resort that deserves to be on every discerning traveller’s radar.

Highlight of our room is the outdoor bath and kaiseki dinner to complete our Japanese ryokan experience. Breakfast was semi buffet style which was slightly lacking in choices & taste wise in my opinion. Location within walking distance to main street and hell’s valley.
