Having not gone on a holiday to Mexico with TUI, we were more or less allocated this hotel so we didn't lose our hefty deposit. I felt very jittery in the run up to the holiday as I hadn't chosen the hotel, but I was encouraged by the positive reviews and the Riu brand. The hotel is super clean and the staff are fabulous. I would like to mention Pepa in the restaurants and Martin on Reception in particular. We also loved the towel art in our standard rooms. We were very comfortable indeed in 153 and 155. Food is very good for AI and there is plenty of it. The downside is that the buffet area is small and there are over 600 rooms. A bit of a scrum for food at times. We loved sitting in the area on the right which you enter part way through the servery area. The tables are nicely separated and set out for every meal. Wine is self service and perfectly acceptable. Cava is very popular in all the other bars and is excellent. We didn't try many cocktails. I didn't like the caiparinha I sampled on the first night, so I stopped there. We took our meals when we felt it would be quieter and that worked well for us. There are two further restaurants which you can book at Reception. Each has two sittings. Subject to availability you can book these as many times as you like. We enjoyed three evenings there, visiting the Asian one twice. Nice food on those buffets and lovely ambience. There is a bus stop on the prom side and to the left in about 15 mins you reach shops, bars and restaurants. The sunsets are fabulous. To the right it is further to Puerto del Carmen. One day we took the bus to Playa Blanca, easy and cheap. Hotel entertainment is not really our thing, so we paid little attention and spent evenings in the Lobby Bar. We stayed in the main hotel, but wandered across to the quiet pool and the snack bar there a few times. There were no issues with getting sunbeds in the mornings and we were blessed with the weather. There is tons going on in the hotel by way of activities and the animation team works hard. Check out is at midday and we were able to use a free courtesy room to freshen up before pick up. Late check out is expensive. The hotel is disability friendly as we saw quite a few people with mobility issues having a great time. There is a wonderful mix of nationalities at the hotel which we loved. Our week was a tonic, away from the grey UK weather. The Paraíso is just a bit big for our tastes, hence 4 stars and not 5.

We stayed at the Lanzarote Village for a winter break and after reading some of the negative reviews was a bit concerned especially about the food. But there is no pleasing some people. Whilst we were there the hotel reception and dining room were decorated for Christmas which was lovely. Strange when the temperature is in the 30s but nice strange. We couldn't fault the hotel. Our top floor room was spacious for two of us with a massive bed, a bath and shower and a lovely balcony overlooking the pool and beyond to the beach and sea, where we could watch the planes coming into land at the airport and the cruise liners heading in and out of Arrecife. The room key was, initially, a bit stiff but during our stay the locks were being replaced by swipe cards which made life easier. The maid did a great job in the room every day. The food was really good with lots of variety, both at breakfast and evening meal. We were only HB so can't comment on lunch. There were themed nights, Chinese, Mexican, Italian, Indian. But there were lots of other choices should you not want this. The empty dishes were constantly been refilled by the catering staff. The waiting staff cleared plates and worked nonstop to keep tables tidy. Our only issue was 2 people sitting on tables laid for 4. But the waiting staff soon laid another table for us as we had travelled to meet up with friends whom we hadn't seen since pre Covid so had a lot to catch up. The pool area was hosed down early each morning and was clean and tidy despite a beautiful, if noisy, flock of parakeets flying around and doves hoping for crumbs. The pool was deep and big enough to have a swim round. The jacuzzi was lovely. There were plenty of sun loungers available. We tend not to stay in the hotel in the evenings for the entertainment but some of the music sounded good. The hotel is well placed on the quiet edge of Puerto del Carmen which is an easy walk away. The bus stops for further afield, Arrecife, Costa Teguise or Playa Blanca are just a few minutes away and the buses are frequent and reasonably priced. Although the hotel if not right on the promenade it is only a short walk through the garden and out the gate and left. The promenade goes all the way to Arrecife passing the airport. I can't think of any negatives and we will certainly be returning next winter especially if we could request the same room.
