Beautiful location with stunning views from my balcony room. En-suite room was very clean and tidy, had all the amenities required for my getaway. Loved having use of the shared kitchen/ common room area which was perfect for facilitating my dietary / medical requirements. All the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Front of house on my arrival were exceptional, explained everything i needed to know and check in went smoothly. Helping to carry bags up and down the stairs was highly appreciated. Having luggage storage on site was really useful for my final day so i did not need to carry it about until my departure time. The staff were extremely accommodating to my dietary requirements when i decided to have an evening meal in the hostel. My server gets 10/10 for getting the order correct (as it was awkward!) and 10/10 for entertainment/ friendliness. The whole vibe of the hostel was fantastic and relaxing which is just what i was looking for from this visit and stay. Highly recommended!

Ich reiste mit meiner Familie, 3 jungen Erwachsenen und mir selbst. Wir lieben es, in diesem Hotel zu bleiben. Die Lage ist ein Nippchen über die Straße nach Keswick Stadtzentrum. Die Ansichten aus den Fenstern sind erstaunlich. Das Personal war freundlich und erinnerte sich an unsere Vorlieben beim Frühstück. Das Frühstück war lecker und hatte gut überlegt, welche Entscheidungen uns wünschen, morgens abzufahren. Ich habe 6 Pfund für den Park, der gerade hinter dem Hotel war und einfach zu erreichen. Ich würde hier nochmal bleiben.

This is a grand old hotel in the heart of Borrowdale Valley. My husband and I took advantage of a special two night deal complete with plentiful and delicious breakfasts and one very good three course dinner. Our room was spacious with a super old bathtub in the en-suite bathroom. The staff were all very friendly and eager to help in any way they could. We had a lovely time experiencing the great outdoors in spite of the all day wet conditions. The valley is huge with a beautiful rushing river very near to the hotel. I highly recommend a stay at this hotel in its splendid Lake District surroundings.

Wir verbrachten 2 Nächte in einem Travelzoo-Angebot mit Sahne-Tees bei der Ankunft, einer Flasche Wein, einem Abendessen am ersten Abend und einem täglichen Frühstück. Das Zimmer war gut mit bequemen Betten. Der Service im Restaurant und die Qualität des Essens war ausgezeichnet. Eine Auswahl an Weinen für unsere kostenlose Flasche war ein unerwarteter Bonus und wir entschieden uns für den australischen Shiraz. Freundliches, effizientes Personal. Schöner Ort. Kann nichts zu bemängeln!

First time for us in a YHA. Booked camping land pod. However, storm Kathleen hit and we had to be evacuated into the main building, into a private room for four, which was clean and cosy. The staff who dealt with the evacuation as we termed it were fabulous, including issuing us with a complimentary breakfast for the 4 of us the next day. Friendly and helpful throughout - their hard work should be commended. The bar area and games area were comfortable and well equipped and our children 12 and 9 made the most of the games area. We will return but next time out of storm season!

Wir blieben hier zu Beginn des Jahres, es war wunderschön und die Lage der Zimmer war fantastisch. Ich mochte, sie hätten die Originalästhetik so viel wie möglich gehalten. Es war schön, in der Nähe des offenen Feuers im Loungeraum zu sitzen und zu lesen, während wir auf unsere Esszimmer-Reservierung warten. Das Frühstück war jeden Morgen frisch und warm, wenn es serviert wurde, Die Aussicht aus dem Zimmer war auch schön, der einzige Grund, den ich nicht geben die 5 Sterne voll ist, dass leider wegen des alten Gebäudes die Fenster bedeuteten, dass der Lärm über Nacht von der Straße war ziemlich laut, ich weiß, das kann nicht helfen ! Das Personal war auch sehr freundlich.

Third visit to the Borrowdale Gates spread over a few years. Pleased to says its as good as it always been. Food was exceptional and service was first class especially in the restaurant. Rooms seem to have all been upgraded since the last time we visited and we got a free upgrade to a garden room when we arrived which was a nice surprise. This isnt a cheap hotel but you get what you pay for in life, and there are fewer and fewer hotels like this around the UK now so I hope this one stays exactly how it is. Will definitely be back.
