Six! Eat Work Sleep

I had a 2 night reservation booked in May 2023. I arrived at the Cologne Airport quite late, around midnight. I took a cab from the airport to the hotel, and it was closed. I called the number, no answer. There was no mention of access hours when I booked this, which I did through my travel credit card website. My taxi driver called around to over 20 other hotels, all were booked because of a huge conference in the area. After a few hours of searching, he took me back to the airport, where I slept on the floor. I went back to the hotel the following morning, and was told that they didn't have my reservation. I showed them my confirmation, and was told that there's been an issue somewhere - they didn't have my reservation. They (graciously) let me shower, and I was told that I would have a room. The story then changed, and I was told that "We'll do everything we can, but can't guarantee a room for you." I did some light sightseeing and returned to the hotel. The manager had left, and I was told that a refund had been issued and I had to find somewhere else to stay. They told me to leave, but I needed to find another hotel, so I sat at one of the tables in the bar/restaurant next door (which is also the check-in place). I asked, repeatedly, for wifi access, but they declined. I ended up finding another hotel about an hour away for almost triple the price. I was exhausted by this point (having barely slept in the airport the night prior), and I just wanted a place to sleep. This hotel had a double booking, and they didn't handle it properly. They made a choice, and they gave the room to the other person/people. They also could have tried to find me a room nearby, but from what the manager said, they didn't even try. The room that they let me shower in looked fantastic, but that's the only positive thing about this experience. Being in a foreign country with no place to stay is scary. (Trying to) sleep in an airport isn't ideal. Getting back to a hotel and being told that my reservation doesn't exist is infuriating. I wonder if they decided to rebook my room after I didn't show up on my check-in date. Additionally, the way I was treated by the hotel/bar staff was NOT OK. If you choose to book this hotel, I strongly recommend calling them to make sure they have record of your reservation, and make sure to get there during daylight hours. What a mess.

We were really unhappy about our stay. We booked 2 rooms for the weekend, Cologne and New York (family room). Both of our rooms were really filthy. New York was not vacuumed and there was dust en dirt everywhere. We found empty bottles from previous guests in the shower. There were empty wrappers and candles on our terras. The room was a family room (4people) with a kitchenette. In the kitchenette we found 1 knive, 1 spoon, 2 glasses and 2 coffee mugs… in a room for four people??? Also, the dishwasher was not emptied upon our arrival. The other room, Cologne, wasn’t any better. The floor was filthy, there was fungus in the shower and there were poop-stains on the toilet seat !! Upon arrival 1 cushion for the bed lay on the terras. We will won’t be returning ever again!

Het liefst zou ik hier een 0 voor geven, maar dat kan niet. Nog nooit hebben wij in zo’n vieze kamer verbleven als deze. Bloed aan de gordijnen. Gordijnen die overigens half loshingen aan de rails. Schimmel in de badkamer, haren, vlekken. Het enige wat wel gedaan was, was een schoon bed. In potentie is het een mooie en ruime kamer op een praktische omgeving, dat zeker. Het dorpje is leuk. Maar alles is vies of stuk.

Dit was echt een horrorverhaal. Vies en vuil, veel kapotte zaken en ongeïnteresseerd personeel. Waar deze positieve ervaringen vandaan komen is mij een raadsel. Zeker geen aanrader. De ligging is centraal op het plein. Wat ook weer veel lawaai veroorzaakt maar cava.
