Best family vacation ever? Yep! Surfing, taking a boat to the beach, hiking to waterfalls, delicious food, luxury rooms and, oh yeah, literally the worlds best fishing. Already figuring out how to go back next year. You will thank me later.

I love the Osa Peninsula and as a Diamond member with Hilton, I have tried to incorporate a few nights here whenever I am in the area since the resort opened This was my 3rd time staying at Botanika. I previously wrote reviews of my past stays from November 2022 and November 2023, so this review is of my most recent 3 night stay in April 2023. There were a few things on this stay that were a bit disappointing - At early checkin, at 12pm, I was told there was no water which means no showers, no washing hands, no flushing toilets. I learned it was not a municipality issue but rather a problem with the system on the resort property. They originally said it should be fixed by 2pm but kept pushing back the ETA and the day went on with no running water. We saw guests dipping water out of the pool using the room ice bucket to be able to go flush toilets. This was disappointing considering we arrived from a more rustic eco lodge and it was extremely hot during April so we all wanted to take a shower upon arrival. Needless to say, the water issue finally got fixed at 9pm to our building. Not having water throughout the entire resort is a pretty big inconvenience. The hotel did take $100 off our bill as a courtesy at check out. The second major issue we experienced was with the wooden boardwalks from the hotel entrance and lobby to the restaurant. In the short 3 years the property has been open, the tropical weather has taken a toll on the boards and many are in need of replacement as of when we were there. Within 15 minutes of arrival, my 76 year old mother in law was walking around outside, there was no caution signs and she stepped on a rotten board that gave way and her foot and calf went through the board. Luckily, she was not seriously hurt but her leg was scraped and she was sore from the fall the remainder of our vacation. I reported this immediately, showed two staff members and took photos but was very surprised a manager never apologized nor did they follow up. That was disappointing and surprising. I hope the owner/management will replace the deteriorating boards in this area and also on the bridge between the parking lot and the pool and room buildings. Pros: Beautiful, clean resort, stylish decor, lots of trees and tropical setting on the grounds, convenient location to explore many outside eco tours, both land and ocean. Room Quality- I love the spacious and modern design of the 2 bedroom, 2 bath suites complete with a living room, kitchen, and outdoor balcony from which you can usually spot Toucans, Aracaris, Capuchin and Howler monkeys. I’ve stayed in this room type with family on all three of my visits. Food - I love the food they prepare at Terra de la Mesa and the Pool Bar. The fish options are excellent and everything is well prepared! Beach Area: We love the idyllic setting at the Cahui Beach Club and the boat ride to and from is fun! Loved our stay at Botanika. We relaxed and enjoyed our evening at the bar. The staff at the bar Mathew, Johan, Meyson, Tayatania and Keren were absolutely amazing. We ate everyday at the bar restaurant it was the best way to end our day. Morning breakfast staff Marceil and Yacani are the sweetest, they go way beyond to make sure we had a good breakfast. However the kitchen is absolutely inconsistent, first day my plate really brought out hot and full by the end of our stay 7th day the food was cold and there was barely any food in the plate. It gradually reduced everyday.. the funny part is I noticed as I ate same breakfast every single morning. The kitchen manager needs to communicate with the staff and train them how to explain how the meal buffet works. I never picked anything from the buffet but once asked if I can talk some pastries to go as it was part of my meal which I was paying. But they were very blunt and said we can’t take food from there but they were letting few guests to take. Again it was not the staff but it was what was instructed to them. When this happened Maricel was not there to communicate and I really missed someone who knows what meal plan you are on and what you have been trying there every day. This is the only concern I had. So please make sure you let the staff know that you are paying for the meal and are not taking things for free because they can make it look as though you are picking up without paying this can piss off anyone. I could let it go only because of few who always took care of us. The boat crew were really efficient, friendly and great. Overall beautiful hotel in a friendly town and a good staff. I wish I had met the GM during my stay but did not meet her/him.

We were hesitant to plan our Costa Rica trip during the "rainy season" but we were celebrating our wedding anniversary in May 2024. The weather was fantastic and we didn't have the crowds of the dry season. We chose the Botanika because we are Hilton Diamond members as well as its proximity to Corcovado National Park. We were upgraded to a 1 BR suite upon arrival, which was a pleasant surprise. We had a full kitchen and living room in addition to a beautiful balcony that overlooked the rainforest. I cannot emphasize how gorgeous this property is. We saw many different animals on site including capuchin monkeys, macaws, toucans, lizards and we heard the howler monkeys every day! We enjoyed a delicious breakfast at the resort each morning. Staff were gracious and welcoming hosts. We spent a half day (10am-2pm) at the Cahui Beach Resort, which is a quick boat ride away. We took advantage of the shuttle into town to stock up on some light snacks and alcohol to keep in our kitchen. We booked the kayaking and Corcovado park tours on site at the resort; well worth the money. The guides we had were extremely knowledgable. The bridge connecting the lobby to the resort rooms is, indeed, in need of repairs and the resort had cones to mark the areas that were hazardous. (I still had to get a picture on it!!) This was the only downside we could find in staying here. We loved this resort and the people - and we hope to return again someday!

Great place over all. The grounds are very clean and well kept, the rooms are comfortable and clean and the staff were welcoming and friendly. There's lots of wildlife on the property as well. Howler monkeys, sloth, plenty of birds, frogs, etc.

There is no place on this planet that combines luxury and exploration better. Spend a week here and you’ll see every size of animal, from poison dart frogs to monkeys to whale sharks. The fishing is the greatest too, where else can you go and catch tuna and mahi every single cast(even marlin and swordfish when you get tired of catching only 50 pound fish instead of 200).
