Apollonion Asterias Resort and Spa

We just came back from 10 days family holiday in Apollonion Asterias. It was a wonderful time and we will go back again next year for sure. The location is great to visit Argostoli that is known as a capital city of the Kefalonia Island. It is beautiful town with charming old style buildings, loads of cafes and restaurants and what is the biggest attraction you can see the sea turtles there every day near the fishing boats. You can get there using the bus next to the hotel for only 2 euro to Lixuri and then you can catch the ferry to Argostoli for only 3,5euro. The beach near the hotel is beautiful and so different from the other ones as it has an orange sand and beautiful cliffs. To visit more places on the island you will need to hire a car which is easy too as the rental company is next to the hotel. The food was very tasty and vary every day. Everyone could find sth special. Desserts are the number one. There is a great entertainment team in a hotel too. Girls are so friendly and great with encouraging guests to join the games and other attractions. There is also one crazy and super friendly guy in their team. Kids loved him. Was great dancing and singing with them. We had a real feeling it was great fun for him to interact with them. Rooms are large and clean. Cleaning service is great and work hard every day. There is also lively reception team. All the girls were so friendly and helpful. They were always trying best to answer to all the guests requests. We were lucky to be offered an upgrade of our room few days before the end of our holiday. We have been moved from Deluxe tripple room that we have originally booked to 2 floors Mansionette with private pool free of charge. It was lovely surprise for us and we really appreciate that. It has been offered to is unexpectedly and was a real bliss. I can honestly say it was great holiday. The staff, facilities and everything in a hotel deserve a golden 5 stars. We can’t wait to go back next year. Thank you for our wonderful holiday on that beautiful island.

Got back the end of September from a fabulous relaxing stay here, service fantastic, special shout out to Stella and Nancy, they never stopped and were so friendly, Stella even remembered me from the year before. Food was lovely, whole resort immaculate. Rooms are spacious and always kept clean by the wonderful housekeeping team. The views all around are breath taking. If you can, hire a car to get out and about for a few days, the sights and smells of olives and pine in the air are so relaxing, the sea is the kind of blues you only really see in movies or paintings. The coastlines are not served justice in pictures alone, go take a look and hold them in your memories. You wont regret it. This hotel cannot do enough for you, especially if you are a repeat customer. I arrived to a bottle of wine and fruit in my room Mid week was gifted a wonderful array of sweet baked treats including traditional Greek bites. Last day the most delcious box of homemade chocolate cookies with a note saying safe journey home. It was my friends birthday on our last but one day and on the evening presented her with a birthday cake and card, Side note - animation team so funny. I have already booked again for September next year.

We stayed at the Apollonion from the 25th August and had a fantastic time. The transfer over on the ferry from Argostoli to Lixouri is a nice start to the holiday as well. We went with Jet2 and had booked a Premium Double in the new Asterias part of the hotel. On arrival the hotel had very kindly upgraded us to a Junior Suite (689 & 690) overlooking the main pool with a sea view as well. The room was large, very nicely decorated and had a fridge, tea/coffee making as well as a Nespresso machine. USB ports by the bed too, so you only need the cable. The bed was pretty much two double/queen beds together and it was huge! Dider the cleaner was a star and he took great care of our room. Always smiling and very friendly each morning with a “Kalimera” & wishing you a great day. The hotel is very clean in general and there’s always someone knocking about mopping, sweeping etc. I did read about the sickness bug but cleanliness does seem high on the agenda here. Hand sanitizers in the restaurant, bars and reception as well as tables cleaned regularly. Half board was our original choice and the food was fresh, varied and plentiful. The omelette chef at breakfast was great and knocked out some cracking omelettes. Evening time and there was again plenty of choice, as well as fresh pizza being made out of an authentic Italian oven. Fresh salad, beef, chicken, pork and fish dishes were all on offer. As is common in many buffet style hotels, you do see similar items cooked in a different style but they were all very good. The executive chef does ensure the food is good and you’ll see him throughout the restaurant. Vicki greets you in the restaurant area and always had a smile on her face. Kostas was also very friendly and keeps things running like clockwork as best he can. The waiters/waitresses did put a shift in and it was common to see the same ones morning, noon & night. There was some slight delay on the odd occasion with drinks, but only really at busy times and the staff were doing their best. 8pm-9pm seemed to be the busiest with a 7pm-10pm window to eat. Special mention to the waitress Konstadinas who was fabulous, friendly and very helpful, looking after us most evenings. We upgraded to All Inclusive at a cost of £25 each person each day for the last three days of our holiday. As other reviews mention, the all inclusive drinks are different and it’s a local beer (Golden Lager, I think) not Mythos but from the same brewery. €3.50 for a small beer & €5 for a large beer when you have to pay so it does add up. Bizarrely you can’t have a large beer (500ml) on all inclusive, but you can get two small beers (300ml x 2). There are wine machines (red/white/rose) in the restaurant for both lunch & evening meal. If you’re not all inclusive, Happy hour is from 4pm-6pm and alcoholic drinks are half price. We love this hotel, 2nd visit & we were worried after the issues earlier in the season but we didn't have to worry. Food great and service was friendly, we spent most of the time on Xi beach and it's an amazing place. We hired a car for 3 days and visited some great places. Room was lovely and cleaned every day with treats left for us. I think it's great value and we have booked again for June.

We’ve just returned from a weeks stay at the Apollonion Asterias Resort & Spa and we absolutely loved it. We requested a high room so had lovely views of the sea in the distance. The staff are so warm and friendly and look after you really well. The all inclusive was limited but totally adequate - wine, Prosecco, spirits, a slimed down list of cocktails and plenty of soft drinks - if you want a specific brand it might not be included but you can pay for it separately. The resort is immaculate and plenty of facilities. We spent most of our time at the infinity pool rather than the splash pool - the view is amazing and the pool much bigger and totally child friendly. No problem getting a sunbed - the first morning they were all taken but after an hour some became free but after that we turned up about 10ish and plenty of beds free. The food was excellent - we used the buffet most days and went to the Greek a lA carte which was also excellent. The buffet does get busy at peak times but again not a problem to get a table. We loved the tables on the outside terrace despite the heat as there was a nice breeze and view. Book the a lA carte restaurants as soon as you arrive as they do get booked up. Plenty of facilities for kids - kids club, entertainment, games room (you do need some euros for the pool, fuzball and air hockey tables) and no problem the kids having inflatables in either of the pools. We spent our evenings in the music bar we loved the vibe in there - great music, lovely views and families playing games together. There was a lively bar down by the splash pool with the mini disco but we loved the music bar so much we didn’t bother to venture down. The staff work so hard and are just lovely - service can be a little slow when it’s really busy but they can’t do enough for you and are running round constantly trying to get everyone served. I had a massage at the spa which was fantastic and during the day the therapists come to the pool and offer free short massages which is a lovely touch - you don’t even have to move off your sunbed. We absolutely loved it here and would 1000% recommend. We were on a package holiday and did an organised round the island tour with a visit to the vineyard - very enjoyable day that took in some beautiful scenery, the caves are a must and we had lunch in Fiskardo right at the top of the island which was beautiful. The vineyard was amazing - beautiful views and really good wine - they offer different packages depending on how many wines you want to try and only 10-15 Euros depending on which package you go for. XI beach is about a five minute walk from the hotel - there are a few beach bars there and a couple of Greek restaurants. We went in the evening, the beach bars weren’t serving food but we enjoyed a cocktail overlooking the sea - it was lovely and quiet and quite a magical moment. I went here in May half term for the week with my daughters ( 9 and 6) and my mum. We spent most of the week in the kid's pool. It was fabulous as was the main one which we saw but didn't use. Both HUGE so never felt too packed. Room standards are high, especially for Greece which are often basic. We had a room with split level which the girls loved. On the whole, we didn't want to come home. The children's entertainment was the highlight. Ni-Ni and his team are really an asset to the hotel which I am sure is appreciated by anyone with kids. Our room was directly above the main bar and stage which bothered my mum once or twice but not really me as it was done by 12 which is only 10pm at home so no biggy. My mum also had a massage in the spa which left her in crippling pain and 2 days in the room because she couldn't lift her neck but again won't happen to most people. We loved the cats and their kittens everywhere. The staff work hard generally. I wasn't a fan of the crowds in the dining hall. It would be the only thing that would put me off but there is outdoor seating too so you can time your meals to avoid the crowds. We enjoyed our holiday and enjoyed getting the ferry from Lixouri to Argostoli to see the turtles and our walk down to the beach!! I would go again and recommend but would probably try somewhere else as a preference.
