Santiago 31 Hostel

We were a group of 13 people that was suppose to stay at Hostel Santiago 31 in the town square of Guimaraes. We had booked 5 nights through Hostel World during a school trip in two separate dorm rooms. When some of the group arrived Sunday, they found mildew all over one of the dorm rooms for the 6 people. This was on the walls, next to the beds that was wet from the cold weather and mildew in the room. Further on they also found mildew in the kitchen and leftover rice sticking to different kitchen appliances. We went and told the staff that the was mildew all over the room, which they acknowledged at first, telling that they had try to clean it with bleach, because they didn’t know how to handle it. We wanted to cancel our stay and talk to the staff, that get a hang of the owner, that it was not acceptable and that we wanted our money back. The owner proceeded to yell at us, that we were privy spoiled snobs that wouldn’t be able to stay anywhere, if we couldn’t stay in a room with mildew (?!?). They where very aggressive, and scary - we felt very uncomfortable. They charged us the deposit we made and a cancellation fee of one nights sleep. Hostel world was no help to us, even though the Hostel world is all the money went through them, so they couldn’t give us any money back, but Hostel world told us the same but the other way around. Hostel world did provide us a 90€ voucher for the one the 6 dorm room, that has to be used in 6 months, but as we are 6 different students, a voucher doesn’t do much in our strict budget, let alone to trust a service that recommends and facilitates a Hostel with mildew AND unpleasant owner and staff. I can not recommended anyone to stay at this Hostel, let alone to book through Hostel world.

Super friendly and informative host, great location in the old town, comfortable room with private bathroom & terrace

We loved staying here. The room was cozy, beds fantastic, and CLEAN. Breakfast was satisfying. Joao was the consummate host: charming, knowledgeable, KIND. The location was SUPERB. Guimaraes is one of the BEST places we have ever visited. Compact, gorgeous, delicious food (Virtudes, Castas, Etc., and 34 were all outstanding). Bought elegant filigree jewelry at Claridades Joias where the selection was amazing as was the woman who helped us. Brava!

Fui espancado por um funcionário do HOSTEL SANTIAGO, em 2 de setembro de 2023. Precisei chamar a polícia, mas como o caso já estava contido, a Polícia apenas me orientou a prestar queixa. Os fatos: fiz uma reserva para esta data e cheguei mais cedo (por volta de 9h15 da manhã) ao estabelecimento para aguardar o check in. Ocorre que um atendente super mal educado informou que eu não poderia aguardar dentro do estabelecimento e que precisaria aguardar ao lado de fora até 15h que seria o horário do checkin. Solicitei então o livro de reclamações onde iria registrar que achava péssimo ter que aguardar do lado de fora, com chuva, por tantas horas. Diante da recusa e minha insistência em fazer a reclamação, o funcionário disse que eu iria sair "com pancadas" e então começou a desferir socos e pontapés até me expulsar do ambiente. Ao chegar o propietário o mesmo tentou conversar, mas diante de minha insistência em registrar no livro de reclações houve recusa dele em me devolver o valor da reserva, o que só foi realizado com a chegada da Polícia. NÃO VÃO A ESTE ESTABELECIMENTO, ou correm o risco de serem espancados caso chegem antes do horário do checkin.

Un lugar lindo con gente muy amable! Una estancia tranquila y muy agradable

la habitación de 4 un poco justa, le faltaba algún espacio para dejar las maletas o un pequeño armario. Nos dejaron un terraza que estaba muy bien, aunque no la disfrutamos mucho. Estaba todo muy limpio, disponía de una sala con sofás y TV compartida y que daba a la plaza Santiago, por cierto con un muy buen ambiente, céntrica y en lo mejor de Guimaraes, cerca de todo. Los hermanos que lo llevan súper amables te ayudan y aconsejan de todo lo que les preguntes, además nos indicaron donde dejar el coche. El único pero, el lugar de desayuno en una cocina compartida , que aun estando bien, faltan sitios al coincidir más gente, apenasas caben 8/10 personas, además los últimos que bajan se quedan sin los deliciosos pasteles que ponen.
