I stay in PI hotels at least 4 times a year - I have a Business Account. Although basic, they have always been acceptable, with a high standard of cleanliness. However, having stayed in PIs at ExCel, NEC and Braehead this year, these standards appear to be slipping - not least because PI appears to have cut the number of staff in each hotel drastically. My recent trip to Braehead was the worst so far. The receptionist didnt speak any English and didnt understand any either. Eventually she fetched the duty manager who informed me that i had booked 2 rooms under each of the 3 names (why would I??). She insisted that we would be charged for the additional 3 rooms as we hadnt cancelled them before 1pm - I had paperwork proving that we had 1 room for each of 3 names booked and anyway how could we cancel reservations we didnt know existed and had somehow been created by the PI reservation system? I was told there was nothing they could do and I would have to phone customer services. I called the number given, was on hold over 30 mins and then told this was Reservations not Customer Services and I would have to call another number. At this point the Duty Manager arrived at my room and said, as a gesture of goodwill, they would not charge us for the additional rooms.... One colleague had been put in a first floor room which was dirty, full of cobwebs and with badly damaged furniture. The duty manager refused to change his room as the hotel was apparently full (what happened to the three additional rooms we had allegedly booked?). she also refused to refund the money paid for this room. The restaurant had the usual overpriced non-veggie-friendly menu and several dishes were not available, including 1 of the only 2 veggie items. Why were dishes not available at 7.30pm - its not as if the restaurant was busy! At breakfast, the bowls of cereals were almost empty and not replenished. At the hot table, dishes were also nearly empty and not replenished. I asked for veggie sausage, which were not on the hot table, and was told by the surly chef there would be a wait of 10 mins. When they finally appeared, they were inedible as they were barely cooked and raw inside. The three same young women appeared to deal with reception, taking food orders, delivering food and serving drinks at the bar; and were there at breakfast too. The hotel doesnt have Premier Plus rooms; the rooms were shabby and grubby.
