A modern at centrally located hotel in a great position in the heart of Bakewell, it’s within easy walking distance of all the local amenities. The hotel doesn’t have it’s own car park, although there is a public one pretty much right next to it. However, there are a couple of caveats here. The car park is closed on Monday for the market, and doesn’t reopen until about 7:00pm. The hotel made this clear on booking and suggested alternatives, but what they didn’t mention was that the access road to the hotel is also closed. So if you’re arriving or departing on a Monday, you’re going to have quite a walk with your bags. We were let through the barrier as it was gone 6:00pm when we arrived and they were just clearing up, but even the receptionist expressed surprise that we had been let through. The other issue that there is a time limit on staying at this car park, something like 3 hours. I don’t think that applies overnight, so you might be ok if you’re using the car during the day, but otherwise you will have to find somewhere else. The receptionist suggested the agricultural business centre. This was quite a drive, probably a mile or more, but you do loop back on yourself, so you can cut through the lanes and it’s only a 5 minute walk. I’m not sure I would have liked to leave my car here overnight though, it seemed very isolated. We went for the suite, and this was a good sized room, well appointed with a couple of sofas and a coffee table and contemporary in style. Tea/coffee making facilities were provided and complimentary biscuits. The en-suite was a good sized too with twin sinks, and a walk-in shower as well as a bath. Everything was clean and up together. Unfortunately though, we weren’t in there long enough to really appreciate it. My wife took a shower soon after we arrived, and then there was a knock on the door from the receptionist saying that water was leaking in to the restaurant downstairs and could we stop using the shower and they would look at it tomorrow. Now, I get that these things can happen, but so often it’s not the initial issue that causes the problem, but how it’s handled, and that proved to be the case here. Although that said, the receptionist also mentioned that it had happened before, but their maintenance guy “couldn’t find out where it was coming from”. Perhaps he should have looked a bit harder, or employed a professional plumber, it’s obviously not just going to go away. Anyway, that aside, we’d been travelling all day and certainly wanted to freshen up before going out for a meal, so I asked if there was another room we could use to have a shower. Fortunately there was, so my wife put a robe on and dripped her way there. As it happens, this was a nice room too, not quite as big, but still very pleasant, so we asked if we could just move in to that room, and that was agreed. We didn’t really fancy having to go to a different room for a shower, and figured plumbers would be in and out our room all the followi
