What a gem of a place! The special thing about this place is that there are 5 private outdoor onsens as well as a gender-segregated public bath and one mixed gender outdoor bath (for this one, you need to wear a bathing suit). If you are shy of exposing yourself or like taking photos, then those 5 private outdoor onsens are just perfect. I went in the autumn, which is cooling already and I can imagine what a treat it will be in winter with all the snow. The hotel is located almost to the top of the hill. Either drive or call them ahead and they will pick you up and drop you off in the vicinity. My room is quaint and Japanese-styled. I didn't pay for the meal package as I knew I'd would be busy trying out all the onsens available. They are all open 24hrs. By the way, private onsen number 1 and 5 are the best and most picturesque!!! I'm doing all a favor and posting all the pictures of the private onsens.

Liebe dieses Hotel. Es ist schön von entworfen und lebt bis zu seinem Ruf. Die Gebäude sehen aus, als flossen sie über die Reisfelder. Sowohl Abendessen als auch Frühstück waren hervorragend. Die meisten Zutaten werden lokal Quellen und sie sind lecker. Aber was ich am meisten liebe ist die offenen Badezimmer. Beide sind klein, aber sie sind sorgfältig mit einem ruhigen, beruhigenden Blick konzipiert. Ich würde gern wieder nur für das Hotel kommen.

Ich habe eine Nacht in diesem Hotel geblieben, das sich in der Nähe der Bahnhof befindet und sich frisch und neu fühlt. Das Restaurant im Vorfeld serviert Abendessen, und wir haben versucht, die Sukiyaki es war absolut lecker und definitiv einen Versuch wert, auch wenn der Preis auf der oberen Seite ist. Insgesamt hatte ich eine sehr angenehme Erfahrung und würde dieses Hotel bei einem Besuch in Zao glücklich wieder auswählen.

The trip was planned few weeks ahead, accommodation options in Zao Onsen are scarce. If there were other options, I probably would not go with this hotel again. - Before arrival, I called the hotel twice using trip.com but no one answered. - There was only one front desk staff handling check-in. I have waited for 20 minutes for check-in and the Indian family has it waited for 35 minutes. There was another staff coming out from the office and acknowledged the queue. However no action was taken despite the long wait by guest. - I inquired about shuttle bus service but the staff at the entrance said “No shuttle bus”. I saw shuttle bus having the hotel name around the Zao Onsen area. - On the first day of room cleaning, the cleaning lady has not replaced the used porcelain cup and Japanese cup. Also no replenishment on tea bags and toilet amenities. At this price point of over USD500 per night, I was quite surprised. - There are 2 onsen places, one outside the hotel and one on the 1F. The outdoor onsen inside the hotel was not opened and the reason is “snow accumulation”. Overall, the room is spacious and clean but the service did not meet the expectations.

This hotel is located in a small village with a long history, and the atmosphere in the town is absolutely wonderful. The hotel parking lot is about 300 meters away, which is manageable and not too far. The interior is designed in traditional Japanese style, with a beautiful garden in the center of the hotel. It’s truly stunning. In front of the hotel, there is also a foot bath area, which adds a nice local touch. The rooms are authentic Japanese-style rooms. While we were having dinner, the staff came to prepare and lay out the futon for us, which made the experience feel very traditional and special. Breakfast and dinner may not be luxurious, but the food tastes good and the portions are generous — we were very full and satisfied. Some staff members speak very good English, which was very helpful. The hotel shop also offers a good variety of products. Personally, my favorite spot was the relaxing seating area next to the central garden — it was the perfect place to unwind. The room price is very reasonable and not expensive at all. This is definitely one of the most worthwhile places I’ve stayed.

I spent two nights in Tokyo Daiichi Hotel Tsuruoka and I would stay there again. The location is very good - ten minutes easy walk from Tsuruoka JR train station and it's directly connected to S-Mall, so you don't even have to go outside to access the shops and restaurants in the mall. There is also a bus terminal at the mall for local buses - I caught a bus from there to Mount Haguro. The bedroom was a good size for a Japanese business hotel with a good size desk and chair. However, I could only find one power socket! It's good that I brought a power strip! Typical of Japanese hotels with Onsen / Sentō the bathroom is small - most people would use the public bath facilities to shower. The hotel has a Japanese style bath, however it was in the annexe, so it was rather confusing the first time I tried to find it. Two of the baths were inaccessible - the door was locked. The main bath was okay, there is a sauna and cold plunge pool. The front desk were very polite, efficient and could speak basic English.

Abgesehen von der wunderschönen Lage. Zuerst dachte ich, ich wäre mit der geräumigen Lage des Zimmers unkomfortabel (ich bin ein sehr hübscher soloreisender), aber das Zimmer war einfach so komfortabel mit einem ausgezeichneten Blick. Der Heizgerät war etwas heiß, aber es gab auch einen elektrischen Fan, so alles war großartig. Das Hotel bietet Ihnen jede Nacht ein kostenloses 50-minütiges privates Bad, und die private Bad sind erstaunlich, in der Lage, bis zu fünf Personen zu beherbergen und mit Fenstern zu lassen in Licht und Dinge. Ausgezeichnetes Wasser - sehr sauer und sehr heiß. Es dauert einige Zeit, um sich an die Wärme gewöhnt zu werden, aber wenn Sie es tun, ist es eine himmlische Erfahrung. Es gibt auch öffentliche Badezimmer (kostenlos) die Sie über die ganze Nacht und früh morgens genießen können (sie sind nur während der Morgendämmerung geschlossen für Reinigung 9-12), ein Innen- und ein Außenbad, beide miteinander verbunden. Der Außenbereich ist etwas klein, aber es ist so erfrischend, von den schüttelnden Innenräumen zu fliehen, um die schreckliche Winterluft zu genießen, während sie in der Wärme erschweißen.

Not as clean as I've come to expect of japanese properties. For some reason, the cleaning lady/man left some black rubber debris on the floor which looked sus and I ended up cleaning after them 😑 The onsen is small and old, but tolerable due to its sufficient heat. Breakfast is good but it ends up taking up precise (and critical) time because breakfast starts at 730, and by the time I got to the ropeway station (at 810) the queue is already super long and I waited three hours before boarding the cable car. Only one staff (mixed race?) speaks English and he doesn't look particularly friendly like other Japanese staff, but I suppose he's helpful enough to Western standards.

Ein wunderbarer Ort, um zu bleiben. Der Service war fantastisch. Das Zimmer war riesig, viel zu groß für nur einen einsamen Reisenden wie mich, aber es wäre perfekt gewesen, wenn ich meine Frau und mein Kind mitgebracht hätte. Die Qualität des Esels war groß, obwohl die Ausstattung im Duschebereich ein wenig alt war. Das Essen war verwunderlich und beinhaltete große lokale Produkte. Ehrlich gesagt gab es zu viel für eine Person zu beenden! Was ich besonders gefallen hatte, war, dass sie ein separates Zimmer auf der ersten Etage hatten, wo wenn es zu früh für Sie zu Check-in war, Sie Ihre Gepäck weglassen, ändern und dann Ihre Geschirr und Kopf zu den Schienen nehmen. Das gleiche, wenn Sie die Schleifen am letzten Tag etwas mehr laden wollen, lassen Sie einfach Ihre Sachen im Lagerraum, schlagen Sie die Schleifen, kommen Sie zurück und ändern Sie sich, schlagen Sie den Arsch für die letzte Zeit, dann gehen Sie. Abschließend empfehlen Sie diesen Ort meinen Freunden, die Zao besuchen.

Nice and friendly staff, within 10 minutes walk from Yamagata Station. The natural public hot bath is small but nice and serves the purpose of relaxation. Limited choice of food served in breakfast but the food is nice. Free alcohol drinks during 6-9 pm. We selected a room with a loft bed, and if you use it you need to put the bed sheet yourself.
