OK, so it’s not the Ritz. But I think that many of the negative reviews on here might not be so bad if people had realistic expectations. This place is quirky, REALLY QUIRKY!! Yes, it’s really quite odd. For us, we liked it very much though we understand that it will not be to everybody’s taste. It’s very much Fawlty Towers meets Steptoe and Son. John the owner is extremely friendly and helpful, though calling him a hotelier is a bit of a stretch. The building is beautiful but in need of a little TLC. The ceilings and light fixtures are really lovely. There’s a‘ballroom’ filled to the rafters with bric-à-brac and antiques. There’s quite a bit of junk but also some really lovely and interesting stuff. I see on here that it’s £170 per night to book and if I paid that, I’d be disappointed too, however you can book this on Google for between £70 and £80 per night, (reasonable). We didn’t stay in the hotel this time, but on our next trip to Lockerbie we will be checking in.

Das ist das zweite Mal, dass wir hier geblieben sind und sicher wieder sein werden. Alles Personal ist erstaunlich, jeder von der Rezeption bis zum Restaurant und Barpersonal. Besondere Erwähnung an Jill, Stuart und Mo sowie Manager Ian, weil wir uns wieder so willkommen fühlen. Das Essen ist erstaunlich und vernünftig bezahlt und nichts ist zu viel Problem für das Personal zu bekommen. Das Frühstück war wirklich gut und wir waren immer mit einem glücklichen hello und ein radiantes Lächeln willkommen. Das Spielzimmer ist wirklich gut sowie der Pool und der Fitnessbereich. Wir haben sogar die Gelegenheit, in der Eisrunde zu sehen, als sie sich auf die neue Kurlingsaison vorbereiten. Kann nicht warten, um auf unsere nächsten Besuch zu versuchen. Danke alle wieder, kann nicht warten, um zurückzukommen. Peter und Paula.

Yet another fabulous stay here however on this occasion 9 adults and 7 children stayed two nights. This Inn is very convenient for the motorway so it made the ideal place for our family, both sides of the border, to meet here. The rooms were very comfortable the wee extras in the bathroom, including body lotion, are always lovely to use. The available fridge in the room allows fresh milk to be kept and used for tea/coffee making facilities in the room. The jar of coffee tastes so much better than those familiar (bitter in my opinion) sachets of coffee and the tea cakes make a tasty change from the 'usual' biscuits available in some hotels. Breakfast was delicious... choices of cereal, fruit juice and fruit and yogurt as well as a cooked breakfast. I don't know how Alison manages to get so many different meals out together particularly when one wants fried eggs, another scrambled and yet others want bacon well cooked. Alison was not fazed by any of this. There are highchairs too if needed. The sofas around the fire made a great area for us all to sit and natter and play boardgames/cards. There are plenty of games available to keep anyone occupied. We found Alison her usual chatty and helpful host putting everyone at ease and making us all feel welcome. We will not hesitate to stay here again.

Facilities in the room were basic but clean. There was a balcony overlooking a small lake which was really lovely with geese and ducks around. The area was well kept with picnic tables and there were lots of dog walkers. Breakfast was available at the services next door but we did not use them. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful.

A midway stop off on journey from Uig on the Isle of Skye to Somerset. The room was a decent size and very clean and comfortable. Had a really nice meal in the bar, and breakfast the following morning was good. I have eaten here many times in the past, and the standard is always high, but this was the first time I have actually stayed at the Famous Star.

Ja, das Hotel sieht datei aus und das Gebiet ist am Fluss, aber das Empfang ist echt und der Besitzer und das Personal sind sehr aufmerksam. Das Frühstück, wie andere bemerkt haben, ist sehr gut. Das Inn ist alt und die Zimmer reflektieren das, aber es war warm sauber und das Bett war super mit schönen Kissen und eine böse Dusche!! Ich schlief so gut und war nicht gestört von dem Musiker, aber hörte die Seegurl. Das pub bleibt spät offen, aber das ist gut, wie es in Dumfries und vielleicht in Schottland im Allgemeinen ziemlich üblich erscheint. Ein schöner Aufenthalt und ich hoffe, dass ich sehr bald wiederholen. Danke dem Besitzer für ihre Begrüßung.

Was für einen tollen Aufenthalt hatten wir hier, tolle Lage, erstaunliches Personal, schönes komfortables Zimmer mit großartiger Aussicht . Das Personal war so hilfreich und konnte nicht mehr tun, um uns so willkommen zu fühlen. Dieses Hotel befindet sich in schönen Gegenden mit schönen Wanderungen. Wir können nicht auf unsere Rückkehr warten

Staff were friendly enough until we had a problem in the room. Tv not working and the manager asks” are you going to be annoyed if this doesn’t work” not quite what we expected to hear on our first visit ended up having to fix it ourselves

The reception staff were great we requested extra milk for the room which was no problem The bar manager was very helpful when asked about the photographs in bar wall he told us that another member of staff he taken them they were all professionally taken and the restaurant staff were great in fact all the staff were friendly and attentive
