I had a truly wonderful stay at VIA INN SHIMONOSEKI and would happily give it a well-deserved 5-star review. The hotel’s location is absolutely perfect—just a short walk from Shimonoseki Station, making it incredibly convenient for sightseeing, dining, and onward travel. Whether you’re exploring the Kanmon Straits or heading out for a day trip, everything feels effortlessly accessible.
The room was spotlessly clean, thoughtfully designed, and very comfortable, especially by Japanese business hotel standards. The bed provided excellent support, ensuring a restful night’s sleep after a long day of travel. Despite being near the station, the room was quiet and peaceful.
What truly stood out was the service. The staff were consistently polite, efficient, and welcoming, always ready to assist with a smile. Check-in and check-out were smooth and stress-free.
Breakfast was another highlight, offering a good variety of Japanese and Western options, perfect for starting the day on a satisfying note.
Overall, VIA INN SHIMONOSEKI offers exceptional value, comfort, and convenience. I would highly recommend it to both business and leisure travelers and would definitely stay here again on my next visit to Shimonoseki.
I visited Shin-Yamaguchi after a few days in Fukuoka. The weather was still cold, and it rained a little. From the station, just cross the street, and you’ll arrive at the hotel. It’s about a three-minute walk if you have luggage. Next to the hotel, there’s a 7-Eleven and many izakayas.
The manager greeted me warmly, and the staff were extremely friendly. They would greet guests as they walked in, making me feel very welcome. Welcome drinks and coffee are available until midnight—I loved their lemon water! You can also use the library/cafeteria for work or reading, which is quite convenient.
Amenities are placed on the first floor next to the elevator. Breakfast tickets are available, with multiple time slots to choose from. The room size is big for the price. The bathroom is compact, but I had no issues enjoying a bath. The only inconvenience was the lack of a remote control to adjust the air-conditioner’s wind direction.
There are two washing machines and two dryers on the fourth floor, both of which can be connected via an app. If you don’t have coins, you can pay through the app with a credit card, and it will show a timer for when your laundry is done. The washing machine is easy to use, but the dryer took a bit long. Ice is also available on this floor.
There are no complimentary bottled waters in the room, so I often went down to the first floor for lemon water and coffee.
Breakfast was more abundant than I expected. Since this is a chain hotel, I didn’t expect much, but I was pleasantly surprised by the selection. The menu seemed to change daily, and I really enjoyed having breakfast here. Definitely worth the price. If I visit Yamaguchi again, I would definitely book this hotel!
Service was good but can be improved:
- the translation tool used was not effective. Staff had to apologise repeatedly.
- due to miscommunication, we were late for dinner by 15 mins. The hotel was not flexible enough to do service recovery to guests.
Nonetheless, we thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast and love the room!
Great business hotel. Clean and tidy, helpful stuff (not to mention some of them speak English), good Japanese-style breakfasts. Not scary cold inside! (and believe me, it’s a special point to be considered).
The hotel was chosen because of its location and type. All business hotels are plus-minus the same, but that one was even better than usual ones.
Location: 4 minuted walk to Shimonoseki station (and maybe 12 to a ferry terminal) with a range of buses, a shopping center and several convenience stores.
Absolutely costs its money. My choice for next stops at Shimonoseki.

CCurious TravellerUnbeatable location with many rooms ( or all rooms) and public spaces facing Tsunoshima Bridge. Our room faced the ocean directly with no obstruction. The bath was also quite decent and the outdoor bath is next to the sea. You can enjoy the sound of the waves while bathing in the hot spa. It should be quite spectacular during sunset. The spa was probably renovated within the last 10 years as it was in good condition.
The room , however, felt old and the corridor was damp. The carpet in the room felt damp and the room felt stuffy. The AC worked well and we turned it on high. Our triple room as spacious but I felt itchy the whole night while sleeping- although the sheets looked clean ( I slept on the added bed). The other two beds looked slumped in the middle.
Bathroom also looked quite old( from the 70’s)?
My room was at the far end wing and there were lots of stairs to walk up and down from the front desk which was on the third floor. The staff will help to bring the luggages to your room ( also at check out - just call).
Hotel restaurant serves dinner buffet . If you are not interested, the hotel also has a list of restaurants nearby with 10-30 minutes drive. We drove out to have yakitori in a small down, which was very local, but with friendly owner, good food- and super cheap price ( each yakitori was about ¥120-150 yen.
Breakfast buffet has both Japanese and western offers, taste was average. Overall service was very good.

GGastnutzerIchinomata Onsen Grand Hotel offers a serene and rejuvenating experience. Set in a beautiful location, it features traditional Japanese architecture and onsen (hot spring) facilities that provide a perfect way to relax. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, often with stunning views of the surrounding nature. Guests can enjoy delicious local cuisine, and the staff is known for their warm hospitality. It's an excellent choice for those looking to unwind and immerse themselves in Japanese culture. Whether you're traveling for leisure or a romantic getaway, Ichinomata Onsen Grand Hotel is a wonderful destination!

GGastnutzerWe couldn’t have been happier with our stay at Hagi no Yado Tomoe. Outstanding from start to finish. Delicious meals (breakfast and dinner) on both days, comfortable futons in spacious and well-appointed rooms, the most friendly and efficient service (sincere thanks to Takashi-san, our ‘butler’, but also to the entire team) and ideally located in walking distance to all Hagi’s most interesting sights. I can’t recommend Hagi no Yado Tomeo highly enough.
GGastnutzerThis place was clean and neat and the meals were delicious. The staff was very kind and attentive. The bathroom was nice, the lobby was nice. The bed was a little stiff for American tastes but more comfortable than most here in Japan. This place had its own chic style that I appreciated. They went out of their way to accommodate my dietary needs.
