Hotel Caravel

We are a couple in our late fifties, who holiday regularly in Italy and have stayed in Sorrento/Sant Agnelo several times. We have the pleasure of 5 or so foreign holidays/year. We’ve been about a bit. This is the first time we have stayed in the Caravel. We were swayed by its (relatively) quiet location and the positive reviews online. We have stayed in central Sorrento, but it was too busy to consider again. There is plenty of information in the many reviews of the Caravel, so I just want to add what we found. Sant Agnelo is a mix of tourist hotels (foreign and national) and private residential homes/apartments. As such, it’s less touristy than Sorrento central but still has plenty of bars and restaurants to keep you occupied and they are frequented by as many locals as tourists, so feel more “Italian”. A stand out place was Tonys Bar about 400m from the Caravel, but there are plenty of others closer by. The walk to Piazza Tasso takes about 30 mins, and is a nicer walk on the (relatively) quieter road nearer the coastline. It’s completely flat but the pavements are a challenge as many have large trees and ornate lampposts. Still an nice walk past grand hotels and lemon groves. Bus tickets can be bought from Tabacchi and bus/train stations. They don’t seem as common in bars as they used to be. There are now three bus companies in/around Sorento, so make sure you get the correct tickets. The best place to buy, first time, is probably the bus station in Sorrento. They have excellent English and can explain what to do. The bus stop from the Caravel is about 40m from the front door. Buses are about as prompt and reliable as in he UK(!!). The train station at Sant Agnelo goes to Sorrento Central and Naples in the opposite direction. They seemed reasonably prompt and reliable. Getting to Pompei and Herculaneum is a doddle. Don’t waste money on an organised trip. Do it at your own pace.The Caravel also has a courtesy bus, which can be booked in quarter hour slots to and from Sorrento Centre. We preferred to walk. We booked half-board (as that what TUI offered) and fully intended to eat out for dinner for half of our stay. Dinner is four course and was so good we only ate out on one occasion (it was poor). Breakfast is excellent continental and choice of cooked for those that prefer an English. You can order fried or poached eggs freshly done, or an omelette. Dinner is four course and you order at the beginning of your meal. Wine is reasonably priced and similar to the local bars. They will mark your bottle for the next day if you leave and. The food and is, honestly, as good as most of the local restaurants, and the service is way better. During our stay, we had been joined by several tour groups. This was a mixed blessing as it made the restaurant busier, and the staff sometimes had to work really hard to keep up. It was never a problem and we got the benefit of a hotel and pool that were very quiet through the day. Our room and the hotel in genera

What a lovely hotel. We were very pleased with our room it was light, fresh and always clean. The food was great, we really enjoyed breakfast. All the staff were helpful, in particular, Guiseppe, from the bar who was so friendly and gave us a recommendation to visit his hometown of Meta which was 40 min walk or short bus ride from the Sant'Agnello, where we had one of our favorite days of the trip. There was also live music by the bar most nights which was a lovely touch. To top it off there's a great pizza place called Il'Ruttino, 3 min walk down the road which does takeaway. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

A really lovely, small hotel on the Sorrento coast. We stayed for a week as a family of four in July 2023, and had a really joyous time. Our interconnecting family side balcony room was really spacious and clean with views over Mount Vesuvius. The beds were a touch hard for our preference, but that is really only being picky. The pool area is nice and calm, with ample sun loungers for the guests to relax on. The pool area was clean and regularly maintained. Breakfast was an excellent selection of both hot and continental food in a buffet style but with eggs and pancakes cooked to order. There is a lovely little lunch bar providing light snacks and meals. Dinner is a la carte and while not especially to our taste but there was plenty to choose from and we ate there more often than not as our kids really liked it. There are also lots of nice little restaurants in the surrounding area if you fancy a change. The staff were exceptionally accommodating and were always available to help with requests and advice: booking trips or directions to places in town. We would absolutely book to stay here again.

We just loved our stay at the Hotel Caravel. From the time we arrived (11.pm) the staff couldn't have been more helpful. The Hotel had laid on a cold supper for us, coming in at a late time, we did manage to eat some of it - but, what a thoughtful gesture. Our room was on the 1st floor with a large balcony looking onto the pool. The room was lovely and spacious and absolutely spotless. However, the Shower didn't work properly, the bottom of the shower door is in need of some TLC and there was a musty smelly came from the sink. Big shout out to the Reception / Bar Staff, who were just so friendly and helpful. A Gold Star to Angelo and his team in the Restaurant especially the Chefs. We have never experienced such good service and excellent food in any other parts of Italy we have visited in the past. The Hotel is placed a good 20 mins walk from Sorrento, there is a bus shuttle on hand to take you into / pick up from Sorrento. We never used the bus as we are 'walkers', but beware, the pavements can be uneven and the traffic is very busy, you take your life in your hands even crossing the Zebra Crossings! I would certainly recommend the Hotel Caravel and if I ever return to Sorrento would not hesitate in staying there again. The only reason I have gave 4 stars is because of the Bathroom situation

Spent a week at Caravel with my wife. First visit to Italy and have to say we have had the best holiday we have had to date. The hotel was amazing from start to finish and is in the perfect location in our opinion as away from the noise in Sorrento centre but easy enough to walk to or the hotel provides a free shuttle bus down if you don’t fancy the walk! The reception staff were extremely helpful throughout our stay. The bar staff were just as good and made some lovely drinks and the service was great. A special mention has to go to Angelo the restaurant manager and all of his staff who provided some of the best service we have ever experienced. We did half board, the food was fantastic and we never eat the same thing twice on an evening. My wife can’t have gluten and again her choices were far from limited, she enjoyed some of the best GF food she’s ever had and couldn’t believe how easy it was compared with back home in the UK. We already want to return in the future. Thankyou team Caravel for a fantastic time and we’ll see you again.

the staff are absolutely amazing here ! we had a very early pick up on the day we were leaving , and they had packed us a take away breakfast ! special mention to the bar man giuseppe and the courtesy bus drivers. ...........,,,,.,,,,,,.,,,,,,,
