First, the hotel. It is in a beautiful position on the beach. The place is very attractive. Rooms are simple but in the main comfortable, apart from the bed in one of the rooms which was not. The beach is nice- although personally I think the public end is better in terms of the sand and angle into the sea. The food is adequate but nothing special, and much more expensive than the exquisite and much cheaper fayre in Tropea. Breakfast was mediocre and limited. The staff were charming and helpful. I would, on the basis of the above, have given four stars. My decision to give two is based on the customer service I received, I needed to leave early due to my mother’s mobility issues. This was not the hotel’s fault. I wad told, on the basis of alleged contact with management, that I would be refunded 30 % of the total bill. If left after one night of the total five nights paid for. The booking was non- refundable, so I was very appreciative of this. On the basis of this commitment, I booked another hotel. When I went to pay the bill on early check out, I noticed that it was 100 % of the total, not the 70% promised. I was told that the earlier commitment had been due to a “mistake”. I would have respected a decision from the start to keep all of the money, as this was within the proprietor’s rights in line with the nin/ refundable booking policy. It also would have allowed me to make an informed decision of whether to leave early and lose all of the money. My irritation is with the practice of committing to take 70% and then talking 100 % with no notice. The extra revenue raised from me is in my view lost to the cost of the hotel’s integrity. It’s a shame- I would have recommended and / or gone back. .
