MMark Alexander FrancisI have travelled the world and this is the first and only hotel I’ve ever stayed in where the door to the stairs is locked and inaccessible. Not only is this frustrating for guests who prefer to use the stairs instead of taking the elevator, it’s also incredibly dangerous and should be illegal. What happens in the event of an emergency? What happens if there’s a fire?
I hate lifts, I don’t have a phobia of them, I can happily take the lift when it’s necessary (such as when carting heavy luggage or if your room is up on the 10th floor or something)
But most of the time, if it’s only a few floors, I like to keep fit, exercise and use my legs.
This hotel only has 4 floors and my room was on the 3rd, so after checking in and dumping my bags, I wanted to use the stairs when entering and leaving. I was alarmed to come down the stairs and find the door at the bottom, which leads to reception, locked. There is a “no entry” sign on this door, so basically, whether you want to or not, you have to take the lift every time you are coming and going.
The problem with this is there’s only 1 lift for the whole hotel, and it’s really slow, and because there’s always other people and the stupid robot butler in there, you often have to go up before you can come down. I wasted so much time waiting for that lift every day, just to go three floors. It would have been much quicker to walk, not to mention much better for my health and fitness. We are not all lazy, some of us are capable of walking, in fact we actually like walking, and some of us don’t feel safe knowing a potential emergency exit is locked and blocked. For this reason, I am marking this hotel down in my review.
However, this isn’t my only criticism, the biggest issue with this hotel, besides the lift, is the noise. This is one of the noisiest hotels I have ever stayed in, with some of the rudest guests as well.
The walls are paper thin, you can hear everything (and I mean everything…all night)
There is no point in having separate rooms, you may as well just all be in one big room, there is absolutely no privacy and if you need a good nights sleep, forget it, you will not get it here.
Despite there being lots of rooms available, the hotel ensured that the loudest and most obnoxious guests were always right next door to me. I stayed here for 8 nights and my neighbours changed maybe 3 times, they were always shouting, talking loudly, singing and playing music way into the late hours. Because there is no soundproofing, you get to hear all this, all night. People are always up and down the corridors as well, making noise, shouting, knocking on doors, opening and slamming doors, it’s like a zoo. The hotel provides earplugs in your room, but they are cheap, of very poor quality, do not work effectively and because of the material, they are uncomfortable and hurt your ears.
In 8 nights I never got a decent night’s sleep, and sleep deprivation is like a form of torture.
So if you want privacy, respectful neighbours on your floor, who consider other guests staying in the hotel, and plan to actually get some sleep (which is what a hotel is for) don’t stay here, I would not recommend.
