Mercure Maidstone Great Danes Hotel

Service was great. Breakfast was good. Room was nice and clean

Good location for Leeds Castle. Staff were friendly and efficient. Breakfast had plenty of options. Unfortunately this hotel is quite dated, with no A/C in the room which was hot and stuffy. The desk in the room was also too small to get work done comfortably. Not great value considering the price.

I know i paid for a single room , But i did half expect to have some where to put my clothes. Room was a bit cramped. Facilities I only used once. Pool was being used for children's swimming classes, sauna was ok. More interested in getting business for the banqueting suite than for the hotel. Had dinner on the first night cat fault the food.

It was a hot summer when I stay the hotel. My room does not have any air conditionings. The nights were so hot to sleep well. Hotel wifi were very unstable and the credit card system were down at the restaurant.

For me, service is tremendously good. People are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is wonderful, it was worth to spend. Location is nice. Not new or clean as photos, but absolutely the employee of the hotels are as you are in good hotel. However, all were spoiled with toilet or tap water flow. Toilet flushing is as you are in mid of 20th century to flush 10 times or more. This is not only our room, even the toilet in ground floor. Shower is fine, even not strong but at least fine. I don't understand why showers are fine but toilet is not. Usually opposite. Anyway, if you are alone, it won't be problem. But we stayed as family, and not only one night, we were really stressed a lot when we need to go toilet. The flush doesn't clear up easily, and you need sweating work even you are in hot summer. I would doubt the hotel managers are taking too much salaries or the owner is stingy. Anyway location is good, employees are fine, and under Mercure brand, so people will select. But indeed, this hotel should not name as hotel. This is before to let people stay in the room. Change it.

As we came in the front door there was human vomit over the steps ! Presumably from the people at a prom being held. We booked 4 double rooms, one of the rooms was absolutely dire, worst of the 4. We went to reception where the duty staff were able to move rooms as he agreed the room wasn’t a good one in that part of the hotel. The replacement room was a disabled accessible one with walk in shower/wet room with disabled chair being the only room they had left. So we then had 4 rooms all of the same standard, worn out furniture ripped chairs, really tired looking, ants in the disabled one. The beds themselves were clean and bedding ok. We paid extra for breakfast, Saturday morning’s was awful, being shown to an uncleared table and when being prepared for us the staff were picking up the mugs with their fingers inside the mug and hands all over the food areas of the cutlery. Fresh fruit in the server was frozen due to the chiller being set too cold and the English fry up looking really sorry for itself, not sure whether they were fried or poached eggs, either way not good! Bacon and black pudding dried up, mushrooms slimy. Tomatoes, hash browns and baked beans were ok. The spa area is ok although children’s lessons were going on in the pool so not a leisurely swim. We were staying due to a family party locally so we were out until the early hours. Breakfast on Sunday was of much better quality but really not worth paying for.

As I checked in with the surly chap on reception at around 6:15pm I was told where the restaurant was but it was fully booked from 7pm. No evening meal then after a 6 hour drive. I was also told where the leisure facilities where, but again, last entry at 7pm. I was then over charged on my card (as a retainer), given the room key and not really told where the room was (up the stairs that way). I finally got to my room which I would describe nothing more than a prison cell. Dirty, uncomfortable, time, and hot. A desk the size of a postage stamp so had to work off the bed. The bathroom was grotty. A plus point was that breakfast is surprisingly nice even though all the cooked food is kept warm under heat lamps which is unusual, but good all the same and the breakfast staff were very good, friendly and efficient. I wasn't to happy about kitchen staff stood outside smoking still wearing protective clothing (not workwear). Needless to say I will never stay in a Mercure hotel again as this hotel speaks for the companies culture.

The hotel is definitely in need of modernisation and tlc. It was a very hot day and on arrival in our room I asked for a fan which apparently should have been in the room, I asked 3 times for the fan and eventually my wife called down to complain as the room was like a sauna despite having the windows open, (not your problem I appreciate but poor support service) We went to use the pool to find it was full for a children’s swimming lesson and way to noisy, so did not swim which was part of the reason for booking. We also wanted to book a restaurant table to be informed it was fully booked as was the hotel for a wedding. When we chose a restaurant away from the hotel we thought we would have a drink in the bar to find only 1 person behind the bar despite a full hotel and party so gave up waiting.

Front desk staff not up to much. Restaurant staff were fine. The whole place feels run down and depressing.
