Casa Isabel a Boutique Hilltop Inn

Casa Isabel review We stayed at Casa Isabel for 17 nights over Christmas 2023 into the new year 2024. Pros: -Free self serve breakfast with coffee, toast, yogurt, cereals, etc -Purified water dispenser in room and changed often -Heated infinite pool and hot jacuzzi -Spacious apartment with amazing view from terrace -Amazing views of Puerto Vallarta from just about everywhere at the hotel -Affordable happy hour at the bar with strong drinks, and tasty food at the restaurant -Quiet at night for sleeping (and daytime too, felt like the hotel was empty) -Daily room cleaning was excellent -Strong air conditioning in bedroom Cons: -Street kids that hang out near the entrance of the hotel. These are young men who “make deliveries” on motorcycles around town although I must say they keep to themselves -There is essentially no security for the hotel. There is no guard at the entrance. -We are in good shape but getting up the hill from Zona Romantica is physically demanding and eventually we started taking taxis and Ubers to get home which added to our budget. -Wifi was very spotty and slow in our room

The best restaurant in Puerto Vallarta if you come here…..is delicious and very beautiful everything…we want to back next year for sure the restaurant is the best and the people work here too…see you soon

This has traditionally been one of my favorite places to stay but things have changed somewhat. Because of economics I’m guessing, staffing is very minimal. During the day it’s very difficult to find anyone if you need something. The staff that’s there is great-it’s just that there’s only a couple of them. Because they no longer open the on-site restaurant until 4 pm (and not at all on Sundays) they put out a continental breakfast for guests which is nice. But don’t expect to have any access to other food or beverages until after 4:00. The TV’s in the rooms no longer work and the wifi is spotty and slow. The main pool is very cold but the small infinity pools are warm and nice. The very steep road up to the Casa has fallen into greater disrepair and it’s a treacherous walk down to the Romantic Zone. At the time of our stay they didn’t have any ability to accept credit cards anywhere on property. I’m not sure how long that will be the case. Several other buildings are going up/have gone up in the area so bit by bit the expansive views are being eroded.

We have been to Casa Isabel before and just adored it … I. The past the scenery and food were amazing. But this time, we were extremely disappointed in everything that happened. We had a reservation but our reservation table along the front railing was bit available despite a confirmation of such. Second, a group who came after us were seated along the railing and then a second group were moved from the side to the front railing… both groups who came after us and as it turns out had made reservations after us also (we had made a reservation 10 days in advance) and the reason they got that table was because they bought a drink at the bar. This was just the start of our experience. From there, it went downhill. The bottle of wine we ordered had very clearly turned and was horrible. The meals were cold and the some vegetables such as the asparagus were burnt and extremely tiny (something that never should have been served). Over the course of the evening the wait staff basically ignored us and only responded when flagged down. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience and I would not recommend it to anyone.
