The Talbot

We have stayed overnight at The Talbot many times in the last few years to visit family in the area, very friendly staff, clean roons and excellent breakfasts We were booked in again for this evening, other family members arrived yesterday, shower not working in one room, milk on tea tray was dated 2023 and no breakfast available this morning! Despite offering breakfast on their website and then refusing a refund to the family members who had paid for Friday and Saturday.

We so wanted to love this place but it needs improvement in all areas. There was a young man sitting on a table outside, he was dressed in a tracksuit and was smoking away. He asked us if we had a booking and told us to go in and sit anywhere we liked. The menu was disappointing, everything with chips. I wasn’t keen on anything really and opted for chicken and mushroom pie, it was just like a pie you would get in a fish and chip shop. Our friends had gammon and wondered where the pineapple was. The food was just about edible, didn’t bother with dessert. It was so disappointing. Another couple sent their food back and was asked if they would like their food put back in the microwave! We were there on a Friday and it was virtually empty. This place needs to change drastically if it wants to be a successful dining pub.

Stayed for 2 nights over new years. Very friendly staff however very disappointed that on New Year’s Day they “ran out of breakfast” so we didn’t get to eat. Seems ridiculous as we were the only guests staying that night… too hungover maybe??

I have stayed here for two nights. Travelling the country for work I usually rely on Premier Inn simply as you get what it says on the tin, so was quite apprehensive when I booked this. I didn’t need to be. What a lovely friendly place. My room was lovely, clean warm and a very comfortable bed in which I slept like a log. The bar, barman and owners were friendly welcoming and the a**osphere was friendly and made me feel at home. Breakfast cooked to order and excellent. Evening meal, a lovely home made lasagne, what’s not to love. I know the owners are fairly new and in the process of making their mark, so if you haven’t been and you are passing them pop in, you won’t be disappointed.

On entering the property it was noisy not what I was expecting very laid back approach room was right above the noisy pubs bar so no way of having an early sleep due to said noise (after a 6hr drive ) food was mediocre at best and a set menu on the wall the exterior lighting for the pub shines straight into the room and lights it up like a football match so again no chance of an early sleep breakfast was set at a small half hearted English breakfast not other options available would I stay again definitely a NO there for over £100 I’ve stayed In considerably better and in better areas this was more of a £50 room and very disappointed

Had a lovely stay just before Chris**as. Great a**osphere and friendly staff. Planning to go back in the summer. Perfect location for visiting the local attractions. Would recommend visiting Monkey World which is only a short drive away.

We received a warm welcome from the licensee, who showed us to our room. The room was very spacious and the accommodation met our expectations. Would certainly stay there again if in that area.

Lovely stay very friendly staff. New landlord was very good Rooms were very clean . Breakfast and evening meal was lovely . Dog friendly. Will certainly stay again Pub is situated in a lovely village

We had a lovely evening! Started with an amazing meal. Followed by live music from Flooded lane. What a fun, fabulous friendly place. I can honestly say Hubby and I really enjoyed ourselves, the locals were fun and the new landlords are really lovely.
