This historic mansion is quite unique! Our suite was huge! The bed was comfortable and having the gas fireplace in the living room was a plus during the cool, damp weather. The staff really makes this place a gem. General Manager, Daniel is a joy to talk with and is very accommodating. Restaurant server, Chandra is a local who steered us in the right direction for restaurants and shopping in Culpeper. She is delightful. Chef Greer is very friendly and his culinary creations are delicious! We'll be back!

As we entered the long driveway, we were immediately impressed by the stately manor house at the top of the hill. This house is not a modern building designed to look old, it is an actual home, begun more than 250 years ago, and lovingly maintained ever since. Meander shares its history with its guests. The interior reflects its several additions: The hardwood floor planks vary in widths and levels, the stairs are narrower, and the floors and doors creak. Meander was home to many generations of people who lived and worked here and raised their families. The rooms, suites, and cottages are clean and beautifully decorated in period reproductions; the beds and upholstered furniture are comfortable. We slept well, and we enjoyed the public spaces in the manor house and gardens. Sunsets viewed from the back porch were spectacular. The breakfasts were delicious and generous. Daniel, the general manager, was welcoming, friendly, and very attentive, with over 20 years in hospitality; he clearly loves his work and loves this property. Our experience here was more than pleasant, it was extraordinary. We look forward to returning. Lafayette slept here. Thomas Jefferson was a personal friend of the first owner and was a frequent guest. You can stay here too, and become part of the history of this remarkable place.

We were warmly welcomed and treated to an exceptional dinner which we had al fresco. Great attention was given to our dietary preferences at dinner and the next morning at breakfast. Daniel is an excellent host and we felt right at home in the historical inn located in the beautiful rolling hills of Virginia. This is a perfect destination for friends' getaway/wine trip, artist retreat, romantic couples escape, history buffs exploration, and anyone who likes to wander gardens and grounds.

This place is wonderful. Dan the manger is top shelf. He knows what hospitality is! Food is the definition of gourmet. Our room “The Madison” was very comfy. Hot water 👍 very clean. If you’re looking for quiet, beauty, birds, and relaxation and more. Book a night or two you’ll love it.

A one-night getaway that feels like a long weekend in a faraway time. Daniel is a true host in old-world Inn & Tavern style. Our cabin accommodations complete with wood fire in the grate, wonderful walks right out our door through the extensive Meander grounds (paths by the Robinson River) and quiet—so quiet—that we slept well & deeply. The restaurant, a one-minute walk from our door, is excellent. Both the three-course dinner (though it was fine also to order a La carte) and the breakfast are top notch. We recommend the whole experience! (My husband, who is a Civil War scholar, even found things to investigate right on the property!)

The atmosphere was just what we needed. It was quiet and cozy and the fact that our room had no TV was what we needed to innovation and relax. The staff was friendly and helpful and more than willing to answer any questions we had. Being a history fan, the rich history of the property and the area was fascinating.

Property was beautiful. Very well maintained. It was definitely historical and old but modernized in all of the right places. Staff was very friendly, informative, and helpful. Dinner was a bit expensive but worth it. Breakfast was nice but my wife's eggs tasted more like salt than eggs. They re-made them and they were much better. Server was very polite but we had to ask for things a couple of times. I think he was new and still learning but very pleasant and helpful. We would stay here again.

I am sad about writing this review, but I emailed the owner twice in October about our September stay (email below) and he did not respond. I also completed the survey where I indicated that I would like a phone call. They did not call. Good afternoon, My name is ____ and I just returned from my 10th stay at the meander. My husband and I look forward to our yearly trip to VA and this past weekend was our 10th year. Over the past 10 years, we have seen the different staff members come and go as well as the change in ownership to you. There have been ups and downs in our stays, but we keep returning because we truly enjoy staying at your inn. This year we stayed in the newest room, the whippet cottage. The room is absolutely gorgeous. We have stayed in every outdoor cottage at the inn and this is by far the nicest one. There is, however, an issue with getting hot water in the shower. The reason I am writing to you today is to share our experience this weekend . We had breakfast on Saturday, which is always a highlight of the trip. We entered, sat down and no one came over to speak to us for 20 minutes. We brought friends with us this year as we have done numerous times over the last few years and our friend had to get up and walk into the kitchen to ask for coffee. They brought out the coffee for her and completely overlooked us again. She had to tell the waitress to give us coffee as well. There were six of us in total, two at each table, and none of us were given the yogurt and berries that are supposed to be provided first. The staff came into the dining room numerous times, and tended to other tables while completely ignoring me and my husband. As someone who has stayed now 10 times, I called when I made my reservation to ask that they add the meander loyalist discount. The person on the phone asked me to text them my name so that they would apply it to my account. Since check out is done automatically I saw my invoice once I was home the discount was taken off of my bill, so I was charged regular price. I am asking to please be refunded for the amount that my loyalist discount would have taken off. Additionally, there was an issue with the picnic lunches. I asked for a picnic lunch for two and I was given two picnic lunches with four lunches total and I was charged for that. My friend in the other room also ordered lunches and was also given double. The person taking the orders was confused and instead of packing picnic lunches for two, she doubled the order, so each of the couples ended up paying double for the picnic lunches. When my friend told her that is not what we wanted she said there was nothing she could do about it and we had to take them. I do not understand why all of us were charged double the amount when that is not what we asked for. The mixup with the lunches and the treatment that we received at breakfast really made us contemplate whether we will be returning next year for our 11th trip. I hope that you’re able to provid
