This place is ON, not near the beach like other resorts. Really great staff and great food and drinks. Nothing fancy, but still delicious. Cheap for me from the USA. They offer an inexpensive massage in a private area near the beach waves. It was awesome. Some of the original rooms near the front are older and are in need of an upgrade/remodel as you have read with other reviews). Hope they close for a month in the off season to fix/remodel those rooms. They need it.. The only reason why the resort did not get a 5. Lots of Salvadoran families (many living in the USA or with family living in the USA) stay here to have fun and relax...and for good reason. Great family fun, music is on, but not blaringly loud. The other resorts near La Libertad? Huge concrete jungles with lots of rooms, making for extra hot, crowded (and noisy) conditions. If you like that sort of thing, don't come to Club Izalco. :-) Alao, If you are looking for A "Cancun" style mega-resort, don't come here. Plus: the waves are "medium" here. Surfers will of course already know the best places to go near El Tunco and La Libertad for world famous ginormous waves. Beautiful birds fly freely around the many coconut trees for shade. but don't worry, your table is covered in shade to protect you from falling coconuts and from the mid-day sun. There is lots of shade Bonus: The campfire in the beach after dark was very cool, relaxing. More Bonus:, Don't underestimate the comfort of a great hammock. They await you here where you can listen to the waves all day and evening. When I used to come here way back when they were smaller; I paid for my room, but I used to sleep overnight in one of their hammocks closer to the beach. Heavenly! I should have asked them to keep a hammock out for me this time. They probably would have.
