A group of four of us stayed at ‘A Break in the Vines’ and we loved it and could not have been happier there. Each night we’d take our glasses of wine out and just wander up and down the vineyard rows and chat together in the gorgeous evening light. The Clare Valley looks completely stunning when you stay at St Helen’s! To get any comments out the way that are not A++, I’ll just mention a couple of things…. it was a bit strange the the fireplace seemed ‘out of action’ (armchairs pushed right in front of the fireplace with no wood supplied), the kitchen has no oven (only a microwave), and there isn’t a washing machine there, which might be quite good for longer stays. The kitchen is very sizeable and well equipped and we think both those appliances could have easily fitted in the space. The big positives are the huge amount of room each couple has in their respective bedrooms and ensuites, the excellent level of maintenance and cleanliness and the stunning view out over the vines from the large deck, just metres from the Riesling trail that delivers you, in 20 odd mins on foot, right into Clare….. that is if you even WANT to even leave your deck, your little temporary house and that view…..you are supplied with lovely touches like wine, port, chocolates and breakfast provisions and so there’s probably no need to leave!!! The bbq is electric but was adequate for our needs and a fry up brekkie … although note they do not supply veg items like spinach/tomato/mushroom to go with the bacon, eggs and other continental supplies (and no fruit) so it’s worth grabbing a few things in town if you want a hefty breakfast. We would recommend ‘A Break in the Vines’ to anyone! Its irrelevant whether the decor is ‘your style’ or not as the overarching sense is how welcoming this little house is. The ability to split king beds into twin beds might mean it could suit a broader range of groups of 4 though, say parents with adult children or 4 single friends etc. Beautiful!
