The White Horse Inn

I stayed at the White Horse Inn for one night while walking the South Downs Way in March 2024. It was well worth the 2-mile detour - charming, tasteful rooms, good food, and excellent service. I particularly enjoyed sipping a tasty local ale in front of the open fire. Even though the restaurant was fully booked because of an event that night, staff went out of their way to make sure I got served dinner. Highly recommended!

Having read the reviews, we came with high expectations and were not disappointed. This was the most perfect peaceful setting in which to prepare for and recover from a family wedding in nearby Bury. All our rooms were spacious and comfortable with many luxurious touches; the showers were particularly impressive. Of course, what makes or breaks a hotel’s reputation is its staff; Emma, you and your team were friendly, welcoming and supremely helpful - thank you. We hope to treat ourselves to a return visit one day as there can be no better place to stay!

The White Horse Inn is about 5 miles off the SDW but we wanted to treat ourselves after a day in the saddle . The room we stayed in had a huge bath ( perfect for sore muscles) and the food at both dinner and breakfast was delicious . The owner and staff were very attentive and encouraged us to stored our electric bikes up on a terrace so they felt secure .

We went as a family of 12 plus an infant to the White Horse Inn in Sutton West Sussex for a Birthday Celebration 🎊🎉. The pre arrival communication was helpful and informative. On arrival we were greeted with a warm, relaxed hospitality from Billy and his team. We had taken 6 of the 8 bedrooms on offer and all were beautifully decorated, comfortable, spacious, warm and quiet. All the meals we had were perfectly presented. The menu offers variety and something for everyone from the vegan in our group to the carnivores and the pescatarians! All the food was delicious and served Freshly prepared from the kitchen. Well done chef!! Breakfast was utterly delicious too. Full English, eggs any which way with smoked salmon or bacon. Granola, yoghurt, fruit compote....the sour dough bread and corn bread too moreish by half. Lots of coffee, endless tea and juice. The staff match the quality of this establishment and actually are a massive bonus. We felt at home immediately and we were treated to the personal touch which made us all feel like we were amongst friends. We will be visiting again because there are loads of wonderful things to do in this hidden area of southern England. Thank you for giving us a wonderful time.

Immaculate, in every respect. It got to the point where we were looking for fault - and could not find one anywhere. The welcome, the service, and every creature comfort made this a stay to remember. And the food in the restaurant was just incredible! Can’t wait to come back.

What a find! This is truly a great example of a property that delivers on every level, The entire building is clean - our room Eclipse was very comfortable and well stocked with everything you need including fresh milk in the fridge! A special shout-out to Emma who went the extra mile to make us comfortable including rustling-up some food for us out of hours - she is a credit to the Inn and an excellent staff member.

Such a wonderful little break. The rooms are spotlessly clean, quality bed linen and towels. The location is perfect, with walking paths right from the door. Breakfast is the best we have tasted, locally sourced and cooked to perfection, served by the friendliest team. Just perfect… Thank you xx

Warm welcome from host Billy. Beatifully presented rooms with all necessary facilities (really nice shower). Hotel has a great location for exploring the West Sussex countryside. Billy and Emma very attentive hosts. Really tasty meal in the restaurant in the evening and super breakfast to get us on our way the next day. Will definitely consider going back here.

A lovely pub with gorgeous rooms. We stayed in Frankl which was very comfortable. The staff were all friendly and eager to help. The food was delicious. Would definitely recommend this for a peaceful retreat. Be careful on the way there though, the roads are very narrow, twisty and full of potholes!
