The only negative I have to say is that there was many noticeable blood stains on the curtains in our room which I think is really gross. Besides that the rooms were fairly clean. The staff were so nice and helpful, especially Jessica at the buffet, and Alejandro and Augustin at the pool bars. Not a super huge property but it has pretty much everything you need. Night life / entertainment was lacking a little but the clubs down the road are super close by and accessible by bus. Food is not the best thing you will ever have but there was plenty of options. For the price you pay it is definitely worth staying at the Occidental Tucancun!

Rooms were small but clean. Jose at the front desk is great and our housekeeper Lillith is the best. She was truly missed on her day off - I don't know how much she makes but whatever it is she deserves much more. The spa and staff were exceptional, I had a haircut and a 80 minute massage, both wonderful. Since the rooms are small and very limited TV channels - be certain to get one with a balcony facing the ocean - we spent a lot of time there in the morning listening to the ocean waves drinking coffee and watching the sunset in the evening. The food in the main dining room is questionable and I am not a picky eater. The 1st 3 days I ate a lot of salad and fruit. Breakfast is the best meal of the day - eggs made to order by and amazing woman who could teach others on how to multi-task. You can eat in one of the other restaurants but in order to do so you must be in line, in the lobby no later than 7am. One couple told me they got there at 7:15 one morning and could not get a reservation. Also, reservations cannot be made a day in advance - only that day for that day. I had a real problem getting up that early on vacation - you saw people in line still in their pajamas!! Room service food is not bad but even though all-inclusive you have to pay $90 MXN (approx $5 US) for each plate you order (2 plates $10 USD - 4 plates $20USD) . One more think - be care of drinking non-alcoholic beverages they all have sucralose - artificial sweetners give me a migrane - not funny.

Everyone was super friendly and helpful. I did not like that you had to do the restraurant reservation at 7 am. We never were able to get into them.

I like the beach is so beautiful, I wish the buffet could have more selections for dinner and I didn’t like the air conditioner was too loud that I couldn’t sleep and people were making you much noise on the hallway after midnight for a couple of nights of our stay 😟

Considering that I booked this trip only a month beforehand, I am content, and it met my expectations (beach, pools, food and drink). It’s a low-budget all inclusive resort.
However, I will know better next time I plan a trip to Cancun. Hotel Riu Palace Kukulkan, which is next to this one, would be a much better choice! It’s much broader, newer, adults only!, better food and drink choices, heated and bigger pools, more eventful, the crowd is more mixed, younger, social and English speaking. If booked about 6 months ahead, the price is about the same!
Now, back to Occidental Tucancun! The beach stretch is short, and they should add more beach chairs. The pools are not heated and they’re too small. Both, the beach and the pools, get in a shade around 5 PM. The cocktails are served with no straws. There’s no outside food option (if you want to eat during the day, you have to go back to your room, change your clothes and go to a buffet-1 they don’t allow you to get food in your swimsuit/sleeveless shirt). The smoking section is too far, and it has only 4 round tables. The cleaning lady is a top-notch though!

Front desk staff wasn’t very helpful I have to ask them 3 times to move us to a different room due to the mol/humanity issue restaurant needs a little of more variety of food for each day .

The same food every night basically with a few variations at the buffet. Served cold, tepid or very pre-cooked food at the reservation only restaurants. They ran low or out altogether on buffet foods as it would get later.
The only thing I touched in my room was door knobs and I sanitized after that. Mystery Runs down the doors, clearly noticeable hand prints all over doors that were never wiped down. The floors, walls, windows and furniture had spots that apparently were not going to get cleaned up or off. Came in, took cautious shoed showers and got into at least clean sheets every day.
Staff in Mexico always friendly, so I cannot attribute this to the hotel or its policies.
