Sailors Rest

Lovely room freshly renovated with a beautiful view across to instow, easy checkin with passcodes, fabulous breakfast served at the the royal George, just not able to turn the heating on in our room so it was very chilly - the thermostat outside the room was disabled after 11pm - would have been a 5 otherwise !

We stayed for one night in Room 1 at a cost of £108.50 (room only). The room was big and right on the sea front and everything was very clean and tidy. We went for a few drinks and returned to our room at about 11pm. I got up at 1am, and the room was absolutely freezing. It was snowing outside! My wife had been awake for a while and had put on her coat in bed ... it was that cold. We tried to turn up the thermostat on the wall, but it had a message on it saying 'THE POWER TO THIS THERMOSTAT IS OFF'. We were awake all night. As a result, we left at 7.15 ... just as the thermostat came back on! If you book a room, you expect it to at least be warm. I complained to The Sailors Rest, sending them a picture of the message on the thermostat, and they replied. but only to blame me for the room being cold!! They say that we should have turned up the radiator using the knob on the actual heater. We had done that, but the radiator was OFF and stone cold. It wasn't possible to turn it up. They also said that we should have contacted the emergency telephone number at 1.30am. How long would we have had to wait for someone to come out AND for the room to heat up? Either way, our night was awful, but they refused any type of refund. I challenged their opinions, and they stopped communicating. I then involved Airbnb, and they agreed that our trea**ent was unacceptable and refunded me £32.55. I accepted. The Sailors Rest may well reply to this review and maintain that it was not their fault, but I will let people form their own opinions. This may well have been a one-off, but I would expect them to own up to the problem and communicate rather than blaming the customer.

Upon entering the front door, open the door Infront of you, then on your right the key safe boxes are on the right wall to your immediate right. If you are looking for the milk in the room, it's in the fridge. Stayed in room 5, not a lot of room if the beds are set to twin. Nice view.e

Great room with a fantastic sea view, very clean. Great walk in shower and immaculate bathroom. The bed was really comfy. Walked up to the Royal George for a lovely breakfast and a fabulous sea view. Really good service and staff cannot do enough for you.

Fabulous room, the view from the room is amazing. Bathroom facilities really good. My Husband and I had breakfast each morning at the Royal George , which I would say would be the best we have ever had. The owner Sasha is so helpful and friendly. The only down side is the Wi-Fi can be a bit flaky.

Have stayed at the Sailors rest twice now, the most recent last weekend. Can’t fault the place. Lovely rooms overlooking the water with carefully chosen decor and no two rooms the same. Lovely bathroom with rainfall shower and tea and coffee facilities with a mini fridge in every room. Best of all rooms are dog friendly making them perfect for a get away in North Devon with lots of dog walks and good food. Breakfast is a short stroll down the road at The Royal George where you are made to feel most welcome and we have never had a bad meal there. Can sit for hours watching the estuary traffic taking it all in (dog friendly again). Can’t wait to return!

Stayed here recently. Lovely clean room with everything you need and a nice big comfy bed. Ideal for Appledore Quay, and shops. Breakfast is provided by The Royal George Hotel only a few minutes walk away. Breakfast was delicious and the service was superb. As a added bonus all the bedrooms and doggie friendly. Overall spend two wonderful nights here- well happy.

This superior room could not have a better view of Instow and the river, but the breakfast facility is too far away for a couple in their 70's. Unfortunately a radiator fell off the wall during our stay. It was fixed within a couple of hours of us reporting it, but we didn't receive any personal contact or apology for it. It isn't the cheapest B&B in Appledore but I would stay there again.

We stayed at the Sailors rest which was a lovely room, very clean although we did find the room quite warm, you would defiantly need a fan in there if it was the heat of summer. There also wasn't much of storage to put your clothes.
