We stayed here for our wedding night, and while parts of the property are well thought out, the overall experience didn’t meet expectations for the price and rating. Positives first: the hotel is beautiful and tastefully designed. The spa is a highlight—well kept and run by a warm, professional attendant. The saltwater pool is nicely maintained and a thoughtful touch. However, service overall lacked consistency and polish. A number of small missteps throughout our stay accumulated into an experience that didn’t meet 5-star standards. At the pool—during a heatwave—we couldn't get service for nearly 2 hours. No one was staffing the bar, though it was stocked and locked with a tick chain—odd, especially since there’s an honesty bar inside. I tried calling reception, bar, room service—no one picked up. It felt like I was filling in for missing staff. Eventually someone came and we could finally order drinks. At breakfast, I had a frustrating exchange. I asked for sliced bread or a knife to slice the rolls, and the server replied defensively, saying I should slice the bread at my table and return to toast it—but I only had a butter knife… Breakfast overall didn’t meet expectations. Ingredients were good, but offerings were limited. One morning, there were no eggs at all on the buffet. Hot items were available on request (for sustainability), but with just one staff member, service was slow and inaccurate. Waiting 15 min for coffee or wrong egg orders isn’t aligned with luxury standards. By contrast, breakfast at Solar de Vilar Seco—where we stayed just before—was luxurious and abundant, with premium cheeses, international options, and stunning variety. Chef Gilbert deserves praise. Our room was fine by 5-star basics but felt small and underwhelming for the price and the setting (a former royal manor). Again comparing with Solar de Vilar Seco: rooms there were bigger, airier, and restored with original 18th-century details, creating a far more luxurious feel. There were also some odd quirks. Guests have to ring a bell and explain themselves multiple times—even to re-enter from the garden or spa. I get the intent is security, but the execution felt intrusive and didn’t match the relaxed vibe expected in a place like this. The service tone, while not rude, felt more guarded than warm. Staff rarely smiled, and basic interactions—from front desk to breakfast to housekeeping—lacked the ease and attentiveness that define luxury hospitality. Service should anticipate needs, not react to them—and here it often felt reactive and flat. Finally, a personal note: we mentioned this was our wedding night on our booking, a detail many hotels mark with a small gesture. I’ve had handwritten notes, a treat, a spa perk, even upgrades—all of which make a guest feel seen. In this case, nothing. I mentioned it again at check-in—it was brushed off. This isn’t about freebies; it’s about feeling that the hotel values your special moment. That was completely missing.

📍 Lage: Absolut atemberaubend! Das Gasthaus ist hoch auf einem Hügel mit einem fantastischen Panoramablick auf die Douro-Tal-Weingut. Es ist ein lokaler Weinberg, wo man romantische Wanderungen direkt zwischen den Weinbergen nehmen kann. Der Zugang ist am besten mit dem Auto (freie Parkplätze sind verfügbar). Während es kein Restaurant auf der Website gibt, sind mehrere Städte mit Essensmöglichkeiten nur eine 5-10 Minute Fahrt entfernt. 🛋️ Zimmer: Wir haben in einer der beiden getrennten Kabinen geblieben, die vollen Gläserwänden mit einem Grünschrank aufweisen. Die Aussicht auf den Weinberg direkt vom Bett ist unvergesslich! Obwohl das Zimmer etwas kleiner als in den Fotos fühlte, war es modern und gemütlich. Das Hauptgebäude verfügt über eine schöne, authentische Lobby, einen Schwimmbad, und sie fügen derzeit eine Sauna und Jacuzzi hinzu. 🍛 Lebensmittel: Das Frühstück ist ein Highlight! Es ist viel mehr als ein Standard kontinentales Frühstück: alles ist frisch und lokal, einschließlich leckere Oranges, Olivenöl und Honig direkt auf dem Bauernhof produziert. Sie haben sogar die Küche bis zur Ankunft geplant, um sicherzustellen, dass alles frisch ist. Zum Abend können Sie bis 6:00 Uhr Snacks bestellen. Wir empfehlen auch sehr die Weinprobierung im Lobby: es ist € 20-25 für 4-5 Weine (wir lieben die rote, weiße und rosé), und Sie können einen großzügigen Kaltschnitzel für einen zusätzlichen €25 hinzufügen. 🛌🏻 Service: Das Personal ist unglaublich flexible und freundlich. Sylvia, die unsere Eincheckung und das Geschmack bearbeitete, war professionell und informativ. Auch die Dame, die Frühstück bereitet (die nur Portugiesisch sprach), war bemerkenswert süß und aufmerksam. Wir haben auch einige zu Hause gemacht komplimentarische Portwein! Sie können auch ihre Prämienprodukte zu Hause kaufen: Weine sind etwa €12, Olivenöl ist €6, und ihr Honig ist ähnlich gut preisgekrönt. Wirklich einer unserer besten Aufenthalte je mit fantastischen Wert für Geld!

Pleasant stay in this hotel. It is designed in a quite modern and stylish way coming with good amenities. Breakfast was sufficient for me (as I’m usually not a big breakfast eater). All the staffs were helpful and friendly. Only the con is that I encountered their argument scenes twice in a row, in a same day… you don’t want to see or hear loud arguments by employees first in the morning at breakfast, 7am! Please be more mindful of the guest and do not show it. I didn’t feel good about it, so I cannot give full 5 stars, otherwise I liked the stay and would love to come back.

Amazing location if you're looking to relax. You're surrounded by peace, quiet and amazing views of the Douro Valleys. The pool area is great in a warm and sunny day and we enjoyed walking around the property in between the vines and the apple trees (the girls found it incredible to taste fruit after picking it up themselves). Breakfast is decent (the coffee was particularly good) although I would encourage a broader offering (there were no lactose free choices, for instance). Overall, it was a very good experience and I would happily go back.

Es ist schon das zweite Mal, dass ich in diesem Hotel und es ist sehr angenehm. sehr gute Erfahrung. 5-Sterne-Service und zweimal Abendessen im Hotel Restaurant, das ist auch von hervorragender Qualität und Service.

Beatiful house with nice comfortable rooms, a super nice living room for spending the evening . Good breakfast and a nice, clean pool. Big garden with grapes and olive trees, kiwi and qrapes on top of the parking lot. Enough parking space. Definitely worth a visit during your douro valley tour. Some nice restaurants to visit in the small towns nearby. Tasty wine from own production and very friendly owners

Das Hotel ist wunderschön und befindet sich in einem eigenen Weinberg. Sie können auch an einer eigenen Weintour und Weinprobe teilnehmen. Frühstück und Abendessen im Restaurant sind von hohem Standard. Das Frühstück ist im Preis inbegriffen und das Abendessen ist nicht teuer. Unsere 6-köpfige Gruppe bestellte das Menü mit Weinpaarung und wir waren fast voll. Zwei von uns lebten in einem großen Weinfass, was Spaß machte, aber ein bisschen klein war (besonders nachdem man die Zimmer anderer Leute im Kontrast gesehen hatte), und es gab einen kurzen Spaziergang, um zum Hotelgebäude zurückzukehren, also wenn Es wird nicht für Kinder oder ältere Menschen empfohlen.

Sehr guter Hotel ! Die Aussicht ist einfach super, der Service ist super! Minderheiten: -sehr ungeschmacklicher Kaffee - Ich möchte ein wenig mehr vielfältiges Menü zum Frühstück -zwischen dem Schlafzimmer und dem Toilette ist ein transparenter Schnitt! Es ist komplett beleuchtet und alles im WC ist sichtbar !

Foi uma agradável experiência. Adoramos o hotel , não é novo, mas as instalações são boas e a zona da piscina é muito agradável e a vista simplesmente deslumbrante .  O staff é super cordial e prestável e atencioso . Tínhamos pequeno-almoço incluído e é bastante  bom Acabamos por jantar os dias de estadia, e foi uma agradável experiência.  Vale a pena conhecer e voltar .

Schönes Hotel und sehr schöne Willkommen. Alter Stil, aber sehr speziell. Abendessen war etwas enttäuschend, aber das Frühstück war hervorragend. Wir empfehlen, hier zu bleiben, da es eine sehr besondere Atmosphäre hat und die Erfahrung wert ist. Schöne Landschaften und Gärten auch zu sehen und zu Fuß
