I stayed here for the Easter Bank Holiday because all other hostels, including Coniston were fully booked. But, boy was I lucky. Wasdale turned out to be amazing, centred at the heart of the Lake District’s most stunning views, which can’t be said about Coniston as I drove past it on my way back, thinking how luck I was it was fully booked! Located opposite a stunning lake which is dwarfed by the challenging mountains above, the hostel all the essentials, as well as breakfast and much needed dinner after a days hike, and of course beer! Don’t worry about finding routes before you travel, as the hostel staff are very knowledgeable and experienced with the local routes, and will be able to signpost. The staff are exceptionally hopeful and happy to help in anyway, and really made my trip the best it could be. My only criticism was that, it wasn’t until I was about to leave, that I realised the hostel sell Ordinance Survey maps of the area for £9, something which would have been nice to have with me, but I managed well enough with a picture of the map displayed in the hostel. Definitely worth a visit.
