Domaine de Rochebois

A wonderful domaine Everything was ever our expectation : the magnific suite with the terrace with domaine view , the breakfast was very tasty and the dinning room very cosy, the pool and all the stuff One of the evening there was a pianist on the bar room !!! A really paradise!

So to start with the positives - the building is beautiful, the views are spectacular and the communal areas are 5 star… But, oh so many buts… We arrived at 3pm, having left home at 5.30am - the room wasn’t ready (fair enough checkin is at 4) but we were given two vouchers for alcohol free cocktails, when what we really needed was a coffee or tea there and then. We went back to reception at 4 and the room still wasn’t ready - it already felt like we’d made the wrong choice of hotel. The only person to apologise was a lovely guy called Eric, who managed to find me some water and took us to our room. And as for the rooms… the bathroom was 3 star if that. Im 5 foot 6 and it was really hard to get into the bath to have a shower (the rim around the bath is way too deep), water flooded everywhere and it looked like a very old bathroom with a cheap makeover. The bathroom and toilet looked like they’d had some cheap bare plaster style wall covering that even went over the old skirting boards - so far from 5 star. It was pretty grim and nothing like the photos, The room was okay but having asked for a view, we got a sideways ground floor view of the garden - okay so the hotel was full the 1st night but then very quiet for our next 2, why is it so difficult to get a view when there are so many empty rooms?! The seating areas in the terraces are purely for show - and apart from breakfast, the only place to get a snack or drink is a walk away at the Wedge. We ate at the Wedge the first night having been told it was full (because they were running a corporate event) - no other options on site and having been told it was impossible to get taxis to restaurants in nearby Sarlat, they eventually agreed to give us a table at the Wedge restaurant (no other option on site was open) which as some other reviewers have said, felt like a glorified cafe at best. We couldn’t fathom why a 5 star hotel in the middle of nowhere had a mediocre restaurant away from the main hotel - and the only place to get drinks too. Residents by the pool had to take their own water bottles! Also don’t be fooled by the photos - The grass under the seating areas is fake … and some of the tiles on the terraces are chipped… it feels like the owners ran out of money after spending what they had on all the wrong things… What’s frustrating, is that I should have heeded the bad reviews and not made a booking, especially after reading the ‘but we know better ‘ responses from the hotel. Thankfully we moved onto a small hotel in St Emilion - Badon Boutique Hotel - who know how to make customers feel special and had everything right. I’d like to suggest to the owners that they visit Chateau Capitoul near Narbonne to see what a 5 star experience really looks like and Hotel Can Ferrereta in Mallorca for how to do everything perfectly. We won’t be back.

Superb property, recently renovated. The service is excellent, from the reception to the service in the restaurants or room service. The architecture has been carefully planned to service clients and create different spaces for each to enjoy in piece. Best of luck to the young owners!

Great location and nicely redecorated ... HOWEVER .. staff although friendly need a LOT of training they mostly have no idea what they are doing .. we should have been told when being charged Full price that there was no bar (in the hotel) No spa (its not built yet ) no room service . the young chap (bell boy) very nice and tried to reassure us by telling us that they were trying to recrute more staff and were advertising !!! bless .. not what you want to here when you have just paid £500 for the night. we asked where the fine dining restaurant was that was advertised .... apparently thats only available on wednesday and friday lunchtime !! so not ideal if you are there for a sunday night .. After complaining a small reduction in price was eventually given .. half service should have been 1/2 price . Lets hope they improve !

Beautifully appointed property with warm & friendly staff. Rooms were exceptionally clean and comfortable. Loved it

We spent one night at Domaine de Rochebois and it was a perfect night away from home. We spent the afternoon at the Nuxe Spa, enjoying the sensorial pool followed by a very relaxing massage. In the evening the restaurant was excellent, beautifully presented and delicious food served with care, breakfast is a feast to start the day. I would highly recommend this hotel to golfers and non golfers alike for a night or two of relaxed luxury.

It has been a super nice hollidays with my wife in this nice hotel of 5* We're a young couple form Barcelona and we enjoyed a lot the hotel, the Nuxe Spa and we also enjoyed a lot the massage and the Brunch on Sunday.

We stayed at Domaine de Rochebois. The hotel is a very good hotel. However, we found it more equivalent to an upscale British country house hotel than a real 5-star luxury hotel. The buildings and grounds of the property are beautiful. Do note that some of the parking lots are paved and some are unpaved. Park your car in the paved parking lots because the dirt parking lots can easily become muddy. Staff are hospitable and professional. The decor of public spaces is attractive. Rooms are comfortable and very clean. The mattress and bed linen were very high-end. In particular, the mattress was huge. A proper king-sized bed. Not two twin mattresses pushed together. At the same time, the room was missing things you expect in 2023. Especially at a 4-star or 5-star hotel: 1) No USB outlets. 2) Almost no accessible electrical outlets for charging devices. This is a real big deal. 3) No dental kit, mouthwash, shaving kit, etc. 4) No wine in the partially stocked mini-fridge. 5) No clock. 6) No printed hotel directory. 7) No umbrella in room. I would also note we did not receive a welcome letter or pre-arrival email. Housekeeping did an okay job but some things were not replaced with service. Some days I did not receive a full range of towels either. Additionally, part of room had an ugly 1980s drop-ceiling that you expect in an office building, not a 5-star hotel. The bathroom had a heated towel rack but the rack was broken and would not work. The weakest part of the hotel was the extremely limited food and beverage offering. There is one restaurant, Wedge. The dining room in the main building where breakfast is served should be a restaurant. Breakfast starts at 7 AM on weekdays and 8 AM on weekends. 8 AM is a little late if you have any morning activities planned. The buffet was extensive. Made to order eggs and omelets were very good. I didn't see any champagne offered with breakfast on the weekend. The lobby bar was mostly empty and didn't have food, not even appetizers. Dining at Wedge was disappointing. It is really a bar and casual restaurant for the golf course. It is located a short distance from the main building and guest rooms. The menu is limited and mostly meat. Pescatarians or vegetarians would have dietary issues here. After more than 2 nights you run out of options. The wine list was also limited. Staff were young and well-intended but most of them were not fluent in English. This was a little bit of an issue when ordering food or asking for full descriptions of the meal. Using Google Translate was necessary. The hotel really needs a better food and beverage offering. This is a particular problem because the nearby town of Vitrac is very small. There are basically no other options to eat unless you are comfortable driving unfamiliar countryside roads at night after drinking alcohol. All things considered, Domaine de Rochebois is a very good hotel. Within the category of country house hotels, I would rate it exc
