The Cottage Nigeen

Having read about it in a Condé Nast article, I was certainly expecting a good and comfrotable stay but my 9-day stay with them went way beyond my expectations. The large room overlooking the front garden, tastefully decorated common areas and the garden itself are more than enough to make anyone feel at home. Riyaz and Shakila are very friendly hosts and the staff is very supportive and helpful. Meeting other guests during breakfast or dinner and exchanging travel tips, experiences made the overall stay truly memorable and gave a personal touch to the whole thing which is difficult to find in a typical commercial establishment. We are sure to return to Srinagar and the Cottage Nigeen in future and I highly recommend this property to everyone

Reservation : Absolutely seemless-Mr. Muslim Naqash was very helpful as my program was random and I came from *** to Srinagar .Very Courteous. Helpful. Checkin: seamless-room was ready -linen bed bathroom were in perfect shape and comfortable with all modern amenities Location: Calm and peacful away from humdrum very cozy. Enjoyed my morning cupa in the garden. Transport: I was driven so not an issue but Parking is a concern and could be a challenge Hospitality : Owner/Host-Mrs. Qazi Shakila/Mr. Riyaz Ahmad Mattoo-very welcomig and arranged srinagar downtown tour as wel with an experienced guide. Staff /Team-Aashiq Wani and others were service oriented and has been taught well Food: Ate outside so cannot comment.

The cottage Nigeen is a very cosy cottage tugged away in a posh residential area around the Nigeen lake. It has a lovely lush green garden with the majestic Chinar trees. Loved the vintage decor inside the cottage. The interiors is very tastefully done. I especially loved the tea room. We stayed in a standard room and later moved into the loft but we found both rooms very comfortable and cosy for two persons. The rooms were very neat and clean. Loved the view from the loft. We enjoyed chatting with the hosts, they were very helpful and gave us several suggestions and tips for our travels in Kashmir. Loved the Apple pickle, which was recommended by Aunty Shakila. We enjoyed every moment we spent here. I would highly recommend "The Cottage Nigeen" to anyone planning to visit Srinagar.

Beautiful property and lovely people. We had a great stay during the spring, the property is full of history and culture and the people are helpful and lovely to interact with. Can’t to wait to be back in the autumn, to see the gardens in the autumn season. Special thanks for the staff who catered to our needs as we were travelling with kids and elders and needed addition attention.

It’s a beautiful property with kind and helpful staff. The owners were welcoming, and went out of their way to make our experience one how the best holidays we’ve ever been on. The owners gave us lots of tips of places to visit and the food was amazing. Very much recommend!

Let me tell that I am really not fond of writing comments and I am not a fussy person but this time I am sooo much disgusted staying in this property, I actually felt depressed . We come out to feel free and to relax but this property made me suffocated. Behaviour of the staff was worst. There are plenty of properties around so kindly look up for those.

The cottage Nigeen is a lovely homestay that also comes with a staff. So while you get comforts and vibe of living in a homestay, you get service as you would expect in a hotel. It has a nice garden to relax, completely carpeted house, furniture and tapestry that would give you Kashmiri feel, spacious rooms with heaters that would always keep you cozy. The staff was very polite and courteous and took care of any specific needs such as hot drinking water or water bags. I wish it had a path that would open to Nigeen lake nearby but these are completely occupied by private owners. You will have to walk 15 mins to reach Ghat number 2 to see the lake. Hazratbal area is nearby and we walked to cover these places. If you want to stay away from crowded touristy areas and live in authentic Kashmiri home, this is a great option.

This was my first visit to Kashmir, and I could not have wished for a better welcome than what I received at The Cottage Nigeen during my one week stay. The cottage itself was tastefully done up, with a beautiful garden surrounding it, and was located in a quiet area of the posh Hazratbal area, a few minutes walk from Nigeen Lake. The warmth and genuine care of the owners and staff was beyond my expectation. They took care to make me feel as if it was my own home and prepared delicious home-cooked breakfast and dinner to my liking. My room on the loft had a beautiful view of the garden, Nigeen Lake and the mountains, and was centrally heated and very comfortable, with an en-suite bathroom with all modern fittings. If I visit Kashmir again, I will stay at The Cottage Nigeen and no where else. During check out, I could not transfer the balance of my room rent to the owner’s account, as my phone Sim was not working. The owners were so kind and trusting that they asked me to do the transfer after I reached home. This was hospitality if a superlative kind. I will always have very fond memories of my stay at The Cottage Nigeen.
