Kokkini Porta Rossa

My wife and I have probably stayed in 150 hotels (mostly abroad but some in the US) in the last eleven years since we started traveling. This hotel, Kokkini Porta Rosa, is by far the best. We see the owners Nikos and his wife Angela at least twice a day. Angela cooks breakfast with four unique courses every day. Nikos makes sure we see the appropriate sites and books tickets, guides and rides for us. Paris, their son, is a concert pianist who practices every afternoon, which is a lovely respite after a day out sightseeing. There is an open (free!) bar in the room, restocked daily with ice and the booze we are drinking. They ply us with drinks and snacks whenever we walk through the lobby. The building is the reconstructed garrison at the St John’s Gate, one of the nine gates into Rhodes Medieval City. Parts of the building are 800 years old! The hotel has six rooms, no smoking, and no kids! Just a lovely place to stay! The location is perfect for exploring Rhodes. I can’t say enough about this hotel. Unqualified recommendation.

Wow. This hotel is a stunning, beautiful boutique hotel which oozes style and charm, in a wonderfully tranquil part of Rhodes Old Town. The service is the best I’ve experienced, and I’ve stayed in many high end hotels. Nikos & his wife Angela ensure you have everything you need in relation to local info, bookings, and even an app tailored to your room each day. The service is polite yet personal. The breakfast is a four course a La carte high end experience, beautifully presented and served in the tranquil, beautiful shaded garden. They remember what you want each day. I guarantee you, you will not have had better service at breakfast. Nikos, Angela and Julia are excellent. Outstanding. The suites are beautiful and spacious. And it’s the little things that make it - plenty of hooks in the bathroom, 2 suitcase holders (things you never see anywhere), eau de toilettes etc left in room, and yes, a fridge with wine and soft drinks and cocktail cabinet with full large bottles of top notch spirits!! Unbelievable! Beach bag too, and when you walk back in, Paris (who also plays piano in foyer) offers to take your supplied beach towels on entry for cleaning! Also more drinks left out late at night to help yourself. I was also given a cake with a candle and a gift for my 40th birthday. Truly a world class leading beautiful hotel run by a lovely couple who work hard. Such professionalism is stunning.

We have had the good fortune to stay at many excellent hotels over the years, but Kokkini Porta Rosa is easily the most special place we've had the privilege of experiencing. There are no lengths that expert hoteliers Nikos and Angela will not go to for their guests. They have created an app that has lists of anything you would need - from activities (complete with pictures, a description and a link to get you there through google maps), to restaurants, to where to find laundry, to how to text their favorite taxi driver. Each guest receives an iPad upon which, each day, you can click on your room to find a suggested itinerary for places that you may want to visit. These aren't cookie-cutter recommendations. Far from it. Nikos sits down to discuss what's available and what you're interested in, and then he custom-tailors the recommendations, which also are noted on a paper map he provides each day. Each room comes with a car for one day of your stay to make sure you can experience the island outside of the old city. Breakfast each morning is served in multiple courses - all prepared fresh, and over the course of our stay the staff learned our orders and subtly adapted the selections of fresh jams and breads to our preferences. Each evening, we came back to a full tray of spirits and other beverages with a sign encouraging guests to have a drink in the lovely courtyard before retiring for the night. And to top it off, Nikos and Angela had a cake for our daughters to celebrate their birthday. The hotel itself is beautiful and perfectly situated inside the walls of the old town. Each room is flawlessly decorated yet infinitely welcoming - a rare combination, indeed. The staff, too, are a delight. Giulia, who served us breakfast each morning, was so kind and so warm. Like Nikos, Angela, and their son Paris (who is wonderful on the piano as you sit for a drink before dinner), Giulia made us feel so welcome - as if we were part of this family. We have always dreamed of someday owning an inn somewhere beautiful and can only hope if that happens, we could do it half as graciously as Nikos and Angela.

Saying that me and my husband were impressed would be an understatement! The breakfast was decadent and with different starter and dessert every morning, we have been spoiled with a very detailed personalized itinerary made every day and cherry on top our suite came with a free standing bathtub that was perfect to relax after a long day of exploring. Thank you Angela, Paris and Nikos for the unforgettable experience!

Excellent environment and great position to discover the town. We loved the details in the decor and the care Nikos and Angela had during our stay. Paris was playing live piano at night, so we had a romantic atmosphere to enjoy our drinks. Definitively coming back!

The first time we've ever revisited a hotel because we've spent the last four years dreaming of going back. Angie's breakfast was still amazing and Nikos attention to detail and advice second to none. Thank you for another wonderful break at our favourite hotel ❤️

Where do I begin? Our stay at Kokkini Porta Rossa exceeded our expectations in so many ways. I pride myself in finding unique places to stay, but this boutique hotel is truly something EXTRA special. Nikos and Angela have created such a warm, cozy space with so much attention to detail. Everywhere you look there are exquisite touches...thoughtfully curated antiques, rugs, art, and books. We were warmly invited to explore and make ourselves at home to the library which features well collected books and magazines highlighting the history and architecture of Rhodes. Our room was even better than I imagined from pictures. We stayed in the Katina suite, which was spacious, cozy and extremely clean. I loved the claw foot bath! They generously replenish complementary snacks and a full bar daily which is amazing. The bar in the fireplace is the coolest feature! We felt so at home and comfortable. Nikos is a wealth of information when it comes to his knowledge of local culture and history. He was the ultimate host! As many have mentioned, he has an incredibly well thought out app loaded on a tablet with GPS which he customizes daily to assist you in getting around and finding things to do, places to go, where to eat, etc. We were impressed. We rented a car one day and drove up in the mountains and never lost our way even when we lost service on our phones. Every morning at breakfast he checked with us about what we wanted to do that day, and where we wanted to have dinner so he could assist with reservations. And the breakfast!! It was exquisite! Angela is a very talented cook and created a delicious four course breakfast each day. It was such a treat, and Gulia was so sweet and attentive. In the early evening, we would hear Paris at the piano and head down for drinks in the courtyard. The first time we heard him play we were blown away by his talent! Think intimate bar or jazz club in New York...he is that good! We enjoyed the evening conversation with our hosts and getting to know more about them and Rhodian life. For us, it's the connections made with people while traveling that really make a trip memorable. We will always remember these kind people and the hospitality they showed us. We are now friends! We hope to return one day soon :)

What can I say that hasn’t been said already - Nikos, Angela and Paris made our trip such a pleasure. They took care of every detail from reservations, suggestions on where to go and how to get there. Their in house app which was personally updated daily, mapped out so we could not get lost, was so easy to use and so well thought out. The rooms were each unique and held so many treasures. We loved our courtyard and spent most nights outside enjoying an after dinner night cap:-) The breakfasts were AMAZING! I have never had such a positive experience anywhere we have traveled.

From the moment we arrived until we departed, Nikos, Angela and Paris met our every need. They gave suggestions on what to add/omit to our private tours, restauraut ideas, and shopping suggestions. The breakfast was delicious and so thoughtfully prepared and presented. Kokkini Porta Rossa and its staff pay attention to every detail a guest might need or want.
