There is nothing fancy at this 1960's-vintage motel, but the Pacific Ocean views are STUNNING. And dinner and dancing at nearby Nick's is a huge draw. We have come to Nick's for crab sandwiches and top-notch seafood followed by dancing a few times over the years, but this time we decided to overnight, and it was great fun to hear the waves crashing and smell the sea air. We came in winter, which I'm guessing is way cheaper than summer, since in the warm months refugees from hot interior regions surely flock to Pacifica to cool down. But this just means it's not as crowded, and oddly often more sunny than summer! So try a winter excursion for a quick and less expensive get-away! IMPORTANT TIP: Unless you want salt water caked all over your car, park in the lanes further away from the sea! The morning we left, spray from a high tide crashing against the barrier rocks was splashing all over a fancy cloth-topped convertible that was foolishly parked by the rock barrier right by the sea. Oops. You definitely feel the climate change when visiting Pacifica. Watching huge waves crash so close makes me wonder just how long this gem of a hotel and restaurant will remain with us.
