Great Pines

The most awful meal we've had. Along with terrible beer choices. Had nothing we asked for, no miller lite, no type of guiness. Settled for a dirty martini that came out pure olive juice! We ordered shrimp scampi, it had exactly 4 pieces of shrimp, no flavor with just cut up tomatoes and carrots. Fish tacos with stale floppy shells and one little tiny fish nugget in each shell. The nachos are not nachos, but under cooked potato chips with melted slices of American cheese on them that a 4 year old could make. Not to mention a dry chicken sandwich that could chip a tooth. Just sad....

Property is beautiful but room was cold & no way to regulate your own heat. Another guest played loud music for 2 hrs including after 10 pm. 2 messages to staff went unanswered. Only saw staff 1st thing in the morning. Room was not cleaned each day. For the price, the service was unacceptable. Would not recommend.

Third summer in a row here. Everything was excellent as usual. The complimentary breakfast area was well stocked. Any need we had was met with a smile. My Golden Retriever enjoyed swimming off the lake dock. Location is conveniently between Inlet and Old Forge.

The veranda provides an excellent lake view. The only human contact you'll have is other guests. There appears to be no staff on site, all booking is done online and two phone messages went unreturned. I overheard other guests calling and saying they had not received the code to check into their rooms. Not sure if they were talking to a person or leaving a message. In the lodge building, it appears the HVAC for all rooms is controlled by one panel that is in the hallway. So don't expect to be able to adjust room temp to your liking. Breakfast is instant oatmeal or a muffin out of the fridge.

This was my first visit to Great Pines and experience with the "Weekender" family. "Frustrating" is the word I use to describe this 2.5 day stay. First, there was a peculiar absence of hotel staff. For the first two days, we did not see ANY hotel staff in the lobby. The manager was off-site. Attempts at an earlier check in (i.e., 15 minutes before 4 pm) was not available because there was no one on-site who could help us. So the rooms 'unlocked' at 4 pm, using our code sent via email. However, we did not know where our room was located. Additionally, the manager was contacted to request an hour extension at check out, and she agreed to extend the hour. Unfortunately, the room was automatically locked down at the originally-prescribed check out time. Music played all night long in the lobby for the first night until we found a way to shut it off for the second night. Additionally, there was no water for a few hours during our first evening because the pipes froze. The restaurant staff was excellent for our Sunday night meal, in spite of no running water for a few hours that evening. This hotel has much potential. It is a wonderful location and rooms were clean, but the absence of a human face (thankful there was no emergency other than the frozen pipes) was disconcerting.

Room was very small. Room looked great but was not functional. There was no room to even unload a suitcase or to leave it open. Beds looked good but very uncomfortable. Even after snow fall had stopped, no one shoveled snow for access to the row of rooms we were in. We spent time looking for information about activities in area but there was none available. We were unable to locate any staff to be able to ask questions. Restaurant food was good but was served cold. They had to microwave it to get it hot. Server said it was smokey in kitchen, so they had opened the back door. Plated food must have been by that door.

Very comfortable bed and pillows. Room was spacious. Amazing view! Lodge with fireplace very relaxing. Food was excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful. Relaxing weekend for a family wedding.

There was a mix up when booking the room, was supposed to get a room with a jacuzzi. They didn't have one available. The room was nice but there was no thermostat in the room to make the room warmer. It was a very chilly weekend up there. The hotel restaurant bar was closed which wasn't convenient either. I hung out in the lobby in front of the fireplace which was not on. I asked the front desk girl if she was starting the fire tonight and got a very sarcastic answer back, telling me a guest broke something in the chimney. Asked me if she wanted me to have her make one even after she said it was broken. The girl at the front desk was absent from the desk most of the time even hanging out in her car during our stay. She also had what seemed to be her daughter running around the hotel, in and out of the room next to our room, up and down the stairs. Finally, when taking a shower, a lot of black stuff came out of the tub spout, along with a very slow drain leaving me to shower in a puddle of my own water. As far as the number 1 resort in old forge, I would be to differ.

We had an excellent time in our 3 day stay. Great accommodations and would definitely stay again. Can’t wait for our next trip. Our dogs loved it too with the dog park on sight. It was an anniversary trip for us.
