Nomads Magnetic Island

I had booked weeks ahead of time, when I arrived in the afternoon, I was told I needed a passport to check in, my driver's licence wasn't good enough, I am an Australian citizen . I asked the manager to show me where it stated anywhere on their site that a passport was needed, well he couldn't. So then I had to try and find somewhere else 4pm in the afternoon. I will not be letting this slide either.

This place has a great potential but it’s terribly kept. Loud music all of the time in the common area (REALLY LOUD). I had to work and I couldn’t find a quiet spot in the whole hostel where I could work from. The Wi-Fi is terrible and in the room it’s even worse (and there’s no signal so I couldn’t even use data). The place is dirty. Staff at the reception is sweet and nice but you can really tell that there is no one who is really taking care of the business with care. The main purpose is to sell alcohol at nights to young backpackers to make profit and they don’t really care about other types of travellers. In the dorm it was freezing and I had no blanket, just a sheet. In addition two guys started fighting because they were probably drunk. The hostel is far away from literally everything. There’s no supermarket nearby (you have to walk 40mins) and the bus runs just a few times a day. Perks: it’s on a very nice beach, the huts are literally by the sea and the swimming pool is very nice too. Laundry service is easy to use (with card) and soap is included. Overall I didn’t like it and would never recommend it to a friend. Maybe I’m not their target.

Brilliant place to stay while on the island. Staff are very friendly, Ryan in particular! We stayed in a lovely private room which was perfect for us but also enjoyed the social side in the evening, with bingo and beer pong! Great overall vibe at the gaff 👍

While spending a few days on the island we popped into Nomads for a beer and a bite to eat.the setting in the bar area and view out over the beach and bay is pretty special. The drinks and food was pretty good too and came out in quick time. Even if not staying here, it’s still worth a visit and they are a very welcoming bunch.

My son, Nick who is a VM at Boatys Airlie Beach booked us to stay at Nomads hostel for a couple of nights, my daughter and I stayed in a lovely place right on the seafront, it was comfortable and had a fridge, and 2 towels with complimentary soap, the toilets and showers were just down from where we were sleeping, it had breakfast at the island bar just a short 2-minute walk from there 8 am til 10.30 am and then lunch from 12 pm till 8 pm, we were made to feel welcome and to stay on such a beautiful Island as well made my stay perfect, highly recommend staying at Nomads hostel.

The place is completely rundown and not well kept. Stoves in kitchen don't work, lack of maintenance and lack of security. Unbottled water for refill tasted exactly like pool water full of chemicals and chlorine. Very unsanitary. Staff were mostly British oriented and there seems to be a lack of multicultural understanding. Cleaning was carried out only by few staff members which to be honest were nice and they seemed to do there outmost but in my opinion another 2 personnel would make things better.
