My wife and I took a wonderful trip to scenic St. Thomas at the end of January to get away from the Midwest cold. The hotel is located downtown and in walking distance to the downtown area and both cruise terminals (if you like to walk a lot like we do). The hotel is built into the side of a hill and there are MANY steps. The Bunker Hill is older so we didn't expect a 5-star hotel, but a few things happened that we wanted to share with future travelers thinking about staying there. First of all, the beds are super-comfortable, the free sit-down breakfast was unexpected and delicious, the pool area is nice after a long day, and the on-site restaurant is a good option if you don't feel like venturing out for dinner. Check-in was smooth and couldn't have gone any better. Our room, #24, was ready when we arrived. We chose a cheaper room - it is nothing to write home about (but comfortable enough) and next to the breakfast kitchen, which means we could hear people talking and pans clanging at 7:15 each morning. Again, not the worst thing. On our third night there, I heard drops of water hitting the other pillow in my bed throughout the night - maybe one drop every minute or two. The next morning, I checked it out and had no idea where the water was coming from. Then I noticed the a/c was dripping water down the wall and running under my bed and to the floor between the beds. I talked to the front desk receptionist and she said they would take care of the issues by the time we returned later that day. Needless to say, they put a ”band-aid” on the problem and simply put towels on the floor by the wall. They didn't tell us why the ceiling was leaking. We asked to be moved to a different room. They moved us into a much better room (#52) that had 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchenette and a living room. The problem is that neither of the 2 TVs worked. At least I couldn't get them to work. On the first night I called the receptionist and she was no help. The second night we ran into the maintenance guy and told him about the problem. He said he had to check on something first and would be right back. He never came back, so we didn't have functioning TVs for the last 2 nights. IMHO, I think since Bunker Hill is an older hotel, it has issues that get reported, but the issues are never resolved. At least that was our experience.
