We’ve just returned from Dali, and the place we keep thinking about most is this hidden gem at the foot of Cangshan Mountain — Mutian Time Designer Guesthouse.
Oriental aesthetics in every corner
The guesthouse is converted from a century-old traditional Bai courtyard house. With its grey-tiled roofs, white walls, and beautifully carved wooden structures, the space carries a quiet sense of history and elegance. The courtyard features water elements, stone paths, and blue and yellow lanterns that create beautiful layers of light and shadow during the day. At night, the soft lighting outlines the architecture and gives the entire space a warm, cinematic atmosphere.
The common areas are equally charming, with a stone-built fireplace, vintage furniture, and art pieces thoughtfully placed throughout. The design blends traditional Eastern aesthetics with modern touches, creating a space that feels both timeless and refined.
Comfort with thoughtful details
Our room was spacious, bright, and very comfortable. A stone feature wall behind the bed, paired with soft bedding and warm lighting, created a subtle sense of “wild luxury” while still feeling cosy and relaxed. Opening the window reveals the courtyard view — waking up to birdsong in the morning and watching the lanterns glow in the evening adds a special charm to the stay.
Warm and attentive service
From booking to check-out, the hosts were welcoming and attentive. Upon arrival, they introduced the history of the house and highlighted the design features of the property, and were happy to recommend nearby restaurants and local spots to explore.
The afternoon tea was beautifully presented, with fresh fruit and delicate snacks — perfect for enjoying a slow afternoon in the courtyard. Breakfast included some local Bai-style flavours, simple yet delicious, and a lovely way to start the day.
A peaceful location near the old town
The guesthouse is tucked away in Zhongyin Village at the foot of Cangshan Mountain, about a 15-minute drive from Dali Ancient Town. It offers a quiet retreat away from the crowds while still being conveniently close to the main attractions. Surrounded by village life and forested hills, the air feels fresh and full of the scent of nature.
More than just a place to stay, Mutian Time feels like a living piece of art. It brought a sense of calm and poetry to our trip to Dali. If you’re looking to experience the slower, more peaceful side of Dali, this is definitely a place worth staying.

TTeepeeDas Hotel ist sehr gut, sehr gut, sehr gut und sehr gut.
Der Besitzer Jason und seine Frau sind so wunderschön und sehr freundlich.
Ich konnte diesen Ort nicht fehlen und würde es sehr empfehlen, hier zu bleiben.
Die Lage ist sehr nahe am Flughafen, bietet pick-up und drop-off und ist ziemlich auf die Seen beliebte Lagen nur 15min - 40min in jeder Richtung zu erkunden westlich und östlich des Sees.
Frühstück war sehr lecker, frisch, und auf Bestellung gemacht 👍 sowie ihr Nachmittagsthee
Es gibt spezialisierte Kaffee und Getränke, die sicherlich zu versuchen sind, die Sie im Lobby mit der Aussicht genießen können.
Das Zimmer war sehr sauber und unglaublich geräumig und die Aussicht ist absolut wunderschön mit allen Einrichtungen, die Sie brauchen.

小小丫 LODas Hotel bietet einen tollen Kaffee-Nachmittagsschrank mit den Händen und bietet auch leckere Gastfruchtungen. Das Zimmer ist auch sehr schöner Balkon am Ufer des Meeres. Der Chef arbeitet sehr herzlich und sieht überall schöne Blumen. Das Hotelwagen kann nicht kommen, aber der Chef wird zum Parkplatz nehmen und muss nicht die Taschentücher selbst tragen. Das Backup ist auch großartig! Ich freue mich sehr auf das nächste Mal, bis die Doppelspitzen noch hier leben! Sehr zu empfehlen!

Rric123The guest house owners were very initiative. They picked us up from the Dali Railway station. The rooms were clean. Since there are 4 of us, 2 adults and 2 kids, we had a big room and a smaller room joined together with 2 large beds. The view was amazing.
Upon arrival, it was 4.45pm, and we asked for recommendations of where to eat. However, since it's neither dinner nor lunch time, the owner Mr Hao suggested that we eat in the guesthouse itself. The guest house auntie cooked for us the best rice noodles that we have eaten so far. Springy white noodles in a bowl of hot flavourful broth. My kids slurped it all up and polished the whole big bowl.
When we asked for recommendations on local eating places, Mr Hao gave us a whole list of his specially curated food places, which we managed to try 2 of them. And indeed they were good.
The downside was that there were no coffee or tea sachets in the room. But they said they will make it for us and can send it to our rooms. They mentioned that they have a tea room. And so we enjoyed the 2 types of brewed puer tea while Mr Hao explained a little about the tea.
Personally, I feel that since they have a special tea room to enjoy tea, sending sachet or tea bags would be inappropriate and a disrespect to the art of enjoying Puer tea.
Location wise, it has a good view of the lake. And it's quiet. It's not exactly near the old town but we took a taxi (20 mins) to the old town. Thankfully, we didn't stay at the old town as it's way too crowded, and we felt it's a tourist trap. However, near the guest house, there were many highly recommended restaurants.
The guest house has a dining area on the 1st floor. One thing that I really enjoyed about this place is the dining area. The lady that cooked the meal for us looked like a typical chinese grandma (which reminded me of my late grandma) that she cooked the food so deliciously with passion. While we had our breakfast she would sit at another table, she wasnt staring , just casually sitting while browsing her phone or ensuring we finish our food but her presence reminded me of when my late grandma would sit and watch us eat to ensure we have no leftovers. Lol. It was an oddly familiar and nostalgic feeling that we laughed about. But we do get the homey feel, which we really liked. The guest house also had a laundry room for guests to use.
The guest house owners were very initiative, friendly, and helpful. Anything we need, we just let Mr Hao know, and he would reply. He even offered to send us back to the highway station.
It's definitely highly recommended. And I would ask my friends that should they come to Dali, they should stay in this place. It's just perfect for us.

AaLexxasOur stay at Dali Liufan Xiciao Seaview Homestay was genuinely one of the highlights of our trip to Dali. From the moment we arrived, the experience felt incredibly warm, comfortable, and thoughtfully hosted.
The property itself is tucked slightly deeper into a network of charming little alleys, which might sound tricky at first, but in reality it is very manageable. Any ride-hailing service (Didi or similar) brings you right to the entrance without fuss, and once you’ve been there once, it’s very easy to locate again.
One of the most convenient features is its proximity to the park connector running along Erhai Lake. If you are facing the lake from the property, simply turn right and walk straight to the end (about 15 minutes). That endpoint is where most of the e-bikes and e-cars are available for rent, which makes it the perfect starting point for exploring the lakeside. A small tip from our own experience—don’t make the mistake of heading left first, as we did, or you may end up walking quite a distance before finding rentals!
The homestay itself is so comfortable and inviting that we often found ourselves reluctant to head out. It has a calming, homely atmosphere that makes simply staying in and relaxing just as enjoyable as going out to explore.
What truly elevated the experience, however, was the staff. They were exceptionally helpful in every possible way—attentive, responsive, and genuinely willing to assist with even the smallest requests. It really felt like almost anything we needed, they were able to help with, which made the stay seamless and stress-free.
Do note that the property does not have elevators. However, this was never an issue at all, as the staff were always ready and willing to assist with luggage whenever needed.
Overall, this homestay offered a perfect balance of comfort, convenience, and heartfelt hospitality. My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed this leg of our journey, and in many ways, the accommodation itself became one of the key reasons the Dali experience felt so memorable.

RRoselynn HuynhThis hotel is honestly so photogenic, perfect for Instagram :)) There are flowers everywhere and the whole place has a very calm, chill vibe.
Their service was really impressive. They contacted us one day before our stay and even arranged a driver to pick us up from Dali train station, which made everything super easy. The butlers were also very helpful, always quick to respond and attentive to anything we needed.
They even gave us a free ride to our next hotel, which was such a nice extra touch. On top of that, they gifted me a cute elephant keychain for good fortune, so thoughtful and memorable.
The location is great too, very convenient to get around.

Am Morgen werde ich von der Sonne geweckt, ziehe die Vorhänge auf und sehe den atemberaubend blauen Erhai-See, während die Cangshan-Berge wie ein Schild in der Ferne thronen. Dieses Bild ist wirklich so wohltuend! 😍
Auf der Dachterrasse des B&B trinke ich einen Kaffee und überblicke den gesamten Erhai-See. Der Wind weht sanft und es fühlt sich an, als würden alle Sorgen davonfliegen ~ ☁️
Das Gasthaus liegt versteckt im Dorf Haiyin in Wase Town, und die Lage ist einfach fantastisch! Wenn man das Fenster öffnet, hat man ein malerisches Landschaftsbild vor sich. Schon morgens wird man von der Schönheit verwöhnt und ist den ganzen Tag gut gelaunt! 🌄
Ich liebe die multifunktionale Lobby hier! In meiner Freizeit stöbere ich in der Leseecke in Büchern oder genieße eine Tasse Tee im Teezimmer – es ist ein Paradies für Kunst- und Literaturliebhaber! 📚
