Eigentlich ein tolles Hotel an einem idealen Standort. Aber Sauberkeit und Service entsprechen nicht dem sehr hohen Preis. Das Zimmer war nicht gut gereinigt, einmal lag der Müllbeutel aus einem fremden Zimmer in unserem Bad. Anderes Beispiel: beim Frühstück gab es nicht mal eine Pfeffermühle. Regelrecht arrogant brachte der Kellner - danach gefragt - stattdessen diese Papiertütchen mit Billigpfeffer. Absolut unzeitgemäß. Ebenso am Pool, da sah es unordentlich und schmutzig aus.

Das Hotel haben wir nach 50minütiger Fahrt vom Flughafen Lissabon erreicht. Das Zimmer war sauber und gepflegt. Die Lage ist ein Traum mit Blick auf den Fluss und die Stadt. Vom Restaurant waren wir sehr angetan. Fisch und Fleisch auf portugiesische Art mit einer guten Weinauswahl. Das Frühstücksbuffet ist umfangreich und schmackhaft.

What a wonderful relaxing space. A converted castle overlooking the river … cool as a cucumber inside. Tasteful rooms (we like the junior suite overlooking the river). Gentle and welcoming staff. Only complaint was that we were “between seasons” and there was no heat or air conditioning. Our room was like an oven when we arrived (hot and tired from a long day’s trip) and there were only five rooms occupied at the castle. they knew we were coming. I would have opened the doors in the two rooms to allow some air to circulate.

Good news, bad news here. The good news is that our room was great, large, comfortable bed, , nice view of a courtyard. The bad news was dinner in their dining room, the worst meal we have had in a restaurant in a long time. Cod was fishy tasting and not edible. The veal was more like shoe leather, tasteless, burnt , and overcooked. The vegetable portion did not resemble any known vegetable, a green, gelatinous, foul tasting semi liquid done in a blender. Dessert was on par with the meal a 2/10. We were extremely disappointed and would not return to their dining room

After visiting the Pousada in Estremoz I must say this Pousada is not a luxury place. The rooms are in need of renovation. It is a beautiful castle but unfortunately some things needed to be taken care of. Reception is very friendly. The barman is also working in the restaurant and that means service is lacking. The food in the restaurant was just not good. I ordered the famous pork dish of Alentejo and the meat was raw, it was one big piece of pork fillet. Not the way it should be done. The lamb chops were cold. The breakfast was nothing special.

The hotel is lovely, staff are friendly, meals and wine are very good but the museum was spectacular! You really can't miss the amazing job they have done preserving this incredible archeological site. To imagine that they built a beautiful hotel and still preserved the ruins and artefacts of various civilizations dating back to the iron age was truly an architectural challenge. If you visit as a travel bug or as a history need you will love this place.
