Quiet, Comfy Black Hills Cabin; Within 10 Mi of Mt. Rushmore & Custer State Park

Just a stone's throw from Custer State Park! Three guest cabins, and two suites located in the lodge, are located on 6 beautiful, serene, and quiet acres in Custer County, SD.The Carol Jean is a historic cabin getaway that we renovated a few years ago. The Carol Jean includes a kitchenette with granite countertops and all new appliances. The bath includes a large natural rock shower. The cabin sleeps four, with a king bed on the first level and two twin beds on the second level (loft). There is an all redwood deck with a swing for outdoor relaxation. All cabins include Wifi, 32" Roku TV, air conditioning, heating, and outdoor dining facilities with access to a barbecue grill. Cell service can be spotty all through the Black Hills. However, we have recently, (Spring 2022), upgraded to Starlink satellite internet. This cabin has a swing set and other outdoor equipment in front of it for children to use. There is a large meadow on the property and if you walk to the end of it you can see Mt. Rushmore through the trees. McDonald Mountain Ranch is in a very convenient location. Center Lake is nearby, which is a swimming/fishing lake with picnic tables, barbeque grills, showers and restrooms; located 2 miles away from the ranch. The Black Hills Historic Playhouse is also within a few miles. The beautiful Iron Mountain Hiking Trail is right around the corner. The Wolf Camp outdoor restaurant which serves barbeque ribs, burgers, pizza, etc is 1/2 mile away. The entrance to Custer State Park is also right around the corner. In our opinion we have the best and most beautiful property and location in the hills!Minimum age requirement is 3 yrs old. We do not have guest laundry facilities. There are laundromats in Keystone and Hill City. Unfortunately due to many considerations and despite the fact that we are huge animal lovers, we do not allow pets in our property. If a guest arrives for their reservation with an animal they will NOT be given a rental key NOR issued a refund. Check in is at 4:00pm MST. Because we have a full house and are small staffed please do not arrive early. Late check in is fine, just give us a call to arrange it. Driving and Parking Info: The Ranch is located directly off of a well maintained and paved county road.  Our driveways are hard packed dirt and gravel.  We have limited parking near each of the cabins and suites. The cozy Marjorie Suite is located on the upper level of Mr. McDonald's private residence. It is located above his kitchen and has its own private entrance, accessed via stairs, located on the North side of the building. Parking is available nearby on the West side of the building.The Marjorie Suite is cooled by a portable air conditioner. Heat is supplied by a space heater. The suite includes a 32" Roku SmartTV connected to our Starlink satellite internet. The Marjorie Suite is an open floor plan which sleeps up to 3 people. It has a king size bed and a twin bed. Accommodations include an in-suite bath, single sink, and a walk in shower with glass doors. The kitchenette includes a microwave, toaster, drip coffeemaker, dorm fridge, and an induction hot plate. Basic cooking and eating utensils are provided, including dishes and glasses. We stock basic spices, and a limited amount of coffee and filters. We also provide all bed, bath, and kitchen linens. Please note: This is our only kitchenette that does not include a sink. There is a sink in the bathroom. We stock two dishpans and dish soap. There is a small table and two chairs for dining inside, located within the main suite area. We have another table and chairs, plus benches, on the private deck for outdoor dining and lounging. There is a three day minimum to reserve the Marjorie Suite. Minimum age requirement on the Marjorie Suite is age 5.We do not have guest laundry facilities. Located on the first floor, this area is the original master bedroom of the McDonald Ranch Lodge. The Lodge was designed and built by Richard McDonald, the current resident and owner. The suite has been slightly redesigned to become a lovely space for our guest’s enjoyment. An entrance to the Master Suite has been added to the cozy, private deck. The deck has built in bench seating beneath a large oak tree. There is also a table with two chairs for outdoor dining.The suite faces the front of the property, to the East, with views of the fields across the county road. A kitchenette has been added which includes a sink, dining and basic cooking utensils, toaster, drip coffeemaker, microwave, induction hot plate with cooking pans, and dorm size fridge. A large flat screen TV with a Roku stick and remote are included. We use Starlink satellite internet for our WiFi, free of charge for our guests. This suite includes custom wood flooring, a vaulted ceiling with considerable windows, and a king size bed. The in-suite bathroom includes a large jacuzzi bathtub with windows, sink with expansive counter space, toilet closet, and a spacious walk-in shower. This suite is ideal for a couple, or as additional space to the adjacent Carriage House Cabin. The Carriage House Cabin is located a few steps away, to the South. I.E. Dad, Mom, and a couple of little ones in the Carriage House with Grandma and Grandpa in the Master Suite. There is a three day minimum to reserve the Master Suite. (Due to its historical nature the fireplace is non-functioning.) The cabin got its name because Calamity Jane herself spent an evening in the cabin while traveling through the hills back in the day. The Calamity Jane is an open floor plan which sleeps 3 people. It has a king size bed and a twin bed. A kitchenette and small bath were added to the original cabin. (The old outhouse still stands nearby; we use it as a gardening shed.) The kitchenette includes a sink, microwave, mini fridge, toaster, drip coffeemaker, and an induction hot plate. We stock the kitchenette with pots, pans, basic cooking and eating utensils. We include dishes, drinking glasses, basic spices, and a limited amount of coffee and filters. A small bath with a walk in shower and toilet. There is also a kitchen table with two chairs, as well as a dining table with four chairs near the fireplace. There is a 32" Roku TV in the main cabin. We use Starlink satellite internet for our Wifi. The Carriage House is a One Bedroom, two level, two Bath, 800 square-foot cabin with over 300 square-feet of deck on both levels. The Carriage House was designed by the McDonald family in the "mountain log lodge vernacular". (Please note both bathrooms are located on the 2nd floor, upstairs.) The first floor has a full kitchen, dining area, and a convertible living room that includes a high end queen sized sofa sleeper. We also have two twin size roll away beds available upon request. These two roll-away beds can be added to the lower or upper levels. The second floor has a full bathroom which includes a shower / tub combo, located at the top of the stairs. The second floor also includes the master bedroom, with a separate full bath with a shower, two sink vanity area, and water closet. The master has a queen bed with high end bedding. There is an entrance from the master suite out to a beautiful wrap around redwood deck which has chairs and a spectacular view of the mountains and meadows. We feel that the elevated wrap around porch is one of the best things about the Carriage House. There is a large oak tree that the deck was built around bringing the nature of the hills close as you sit and enjoy the views from every angle. From its elevated decks, you have scenic views of mountain meadows and rolling wooded hills full of the famed dark ponderosa pine trees. Our meadows, although variable with the season, are rich in color and usually have an abundance of wildlife including deer, turkey, squirrels, etc. With just a short walk, Mt. Rushmore is visible through the trees!The Carriage House provides a Washer/Dryer, as well as fully stocked cooking facilities. We have access to free Wi-Fi, a 32" Roku TV, air conditioning, heating, outdoor dining facilities with a propane grill. (We supply the propane.) Cell service can be unreliable at the ranch and all through the Black Hills. However, we have recently, (Spring 2022), upgraded to Starlink satellite internet. Check in is at 4:00pm MST or later. Given our full house and small staff, we ask that you do not arrive early. Late check in, after 8pm, can be arranged; please call us.*Minimum age requirement for the Carriage House is three years old. On the property is a swing set and other outdoor equipment for children to use, including a large meadow.*Maximum occupancy of 5 people, I.E. - One family.*Due to many considerations, we do not allow animals / pets on our property. No exceptions. If a guest arrives for their reservation with an animal they will NOT be given a rental key NOR issued a refund. Thank you for understanding. Driving and Parking Info: The Ranch is located directly off of a well maintained and paved county road.  Our driveways are hard packed dirt and gravel.  We have limited parking near each of the cabins and suites. This hotel was in an excellent place to visit Mount Rushmore and the surrounding areas. The staff was very friendly and the room was clean and comfortable. The town closes down around 9pm so the only thing lacking was food and entertainment after 9-10pm. There are towns a few miles away that have places that stay open a little later. Plan to take time to eat early and enjoy the town. It’s very cute and there are plenty of fun things to do!

Das Zimmer befindet sich in der Mitte des Berges, sauber und kostenfreier Parkplatz, obwohl es kein Frühstück gibt, aber es gibt ein einfaches Frühstück am Morgen, von dem Hotel zu der Nordtür sehr nahe zu fahren, und es ist bequem, 8 Worte zu besuchen.
