I am glad I used mainly Clubcard vouchers to pay for this otherwise I would have been very disappointed & gutted to have spent that much money, the hotel was just average. The rooms are actually in external ‘cabins’ very basic, pillows were the hardest I’ve ever slept on & so was the mattress. The whole place felt very old fashioned & a bit run down, not the quaint country pub way like we had hoped. No atmosphere at all. The evening meal was very expensive for the quality £16 for scampi & chips, this was the equivalent of what we pay locally for a quality meal cooked from scratch. Breakfast was not great, Aldi versions for most condiments & nothing seemed particularly fresh, mainly out of packets, not nice fresh croissants & not quality. We stayed at Alton Towers the next night & the difference was like night & day, it was the same price had I not used the vouchers.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our 3 day stay at 'the queens head's. It has exceeded our expectations, the staff all that we met were friendly, helpful and went out of their way. The room was so clean, well maintained and neatly furnished. The television had sky with an added benefit for my husband of sky sports and also movie channel. Pip was so friendly and helpful to us. We had breakfast which was delicious and the young lady serving was polite and efficient. It was lovely to have a lovely white linen table cloth on the table. The breakfast was hot, and you were given a choice of how your eggs were cooked. The poached eggs were perfection! We managed to park in a side street 2mins walk away. There is a chargeable car park nearby you can park up at. Would definitely return to the queen's if visiting Buxton again. Cannot praise everyone enough fantastic team! Many thanks

Beautiful old medieval building with tons of character. Very warm and cosy in our Barn accommodation block. Kitchen very clean and tidy. A very warm welcome from Jack and the team at reception. We did two of the advertised walks to Pilsbury which were very enjoyable. WiFi in the main areas but not everywhere. Highly recommend.

Just spent friday evening here with the family, the pub is lovely and cosy, staff are very friendly. The family room was fantastic would recommend this to anyone looking for a family friendly pub to stay in with children. The children had bunk beds their own ensuite and the room even had plenty of books and games to keep them occupied. Everyone enjoyed their evening meal and equally so at breakfast. The cocktails are also worth trying! Will definitely return.

This isn't our first stay at a YHA but our first visit here. While it doesn't have the bells and whistles of York, for example, it was a brilliant stay. The staff were exceptionally friendly, knowledgeable and always willing to help. The menu at York, for example, is more of a wish list. When ordering you always start by asking what they have available. However, here the food was delicious and always available. The ordering was easy and the time to come to table super quick, with any delays relayed to us before we ordered. Our room was clean but definitely needed a repaint and some fixing up (it was very tired) but it was super-clean and everything worked well. We had a few tiny issues and all of these dealt with very quickly. There were lots of maps providing details of the area and walks for all abilities. We met some lovely people here as well. The only issue was with connectivity - we had none - despite our best efforts. We were here to go climbing. However, we will be back to better explore the area as it so well situated in the Peaks. A real find.
