The Fountain of Sultan Ahmed III (Ahmet Çeşmesi) is a Turkish rococo structure located in the great square in front of the Imperial Gate of Topkapı Palace. It was built under Ottoman Sultan Ahmed III in 1728. It was a social centre and gathering place during Ottoman period Constantinople. The fountain is a block with five small domes. Mihrab-shaped niches each contain a drinking fountain (çeşme). The water is supplied from an octagonal pool inside the kiosk.
You will see the Sultan Ahmet III fountain as you enter the grounds of Topkapi Palace through the Imperial Gate. During the 18th century Rococo style was gaining popularity among the Ottomans, so this fountain is quite elaborately embellished. The colored tile and the calligraphy is quite nice, though it did not appear to have any water running in it while we were there.
The gorgeous architecture of this fountain welcomes you to Topkapi Palace with style! Even in an area with so much opulence, this structure stands out.
This fountain is next to the Imperial Gate of Topkapi Palace.
