Grand Hotel London is a gem, but a gem that needs polishing, and one which needs supporting if it is to complete a successful comeback after the pandemic. The building is a Belle Epoque triumph, the bar, the rooms have to be seen to be believed. We had a splendid suite overlooking the square (#1) which was wonderful to stay in. The bathroom was modern and entirely satisfactory. Staff were very helpful during our stay, and we found the breakfast quite adequate ( though it required passing downstairs to the lobby and then up to the breakfast room) The bar was architecturally magnificent, but almost always empty, and the restaurant hasn't reopened for evening meals. The location is very convenient for the beach, museums and galleries and the Railway station. One final point; there is a large tree immediately outside the hotel which needs radical pruning to improve the view into and out of the hotel.

My wife and I stayed at the hotel for 7 nights, it is a boutique hotel located in a very central location in Varna close to most of the main attractions, the pedestrian street and the promenade. The breakfast is sufficient and varied. The room is spacious, modern, clean and well equipped. The hotel staff willingly responded to all our requests and we would especially mention Kalin the receptionist, who helped us exceptionally and very kindly throughout our stay.

Die **** Klassierung” entspricht natürlich nicht schweizerischem oder deutschem Standart. Die Zimmer sind zweckmässig und sauber. Der Tresor ist etwas ungünstig auf Fussbodenhöhe im Kleiderschrank montiert. Moderne Boxspringbetten garantieren für guten Schlaf. Das inbegriffene Frühstücksbuffet ist tadellos (warm/kalt) und auch mit diversen einheimischen Spezialitäten bestückt. Das Personal ist ausgesprochen freundlich und hilfsbereit. Wer Ruhe sucht ist hier allerdings falsch - direkt vor dem Hotel befindet sich eine sehr viel befahrene Hauptstrasse mit Kreuzung. Trotzdem Zimmer mit Meerblick und Balkon buchen (davon hat es leider nur wenige mit Balkon). Ohne Meerblick ist es viel ruhiger - aber ohne Aussicht. Dafür ist man in 5 Minuten zu Fuss am Strand. Eine Liege mit Sonnenschirm kostet für den ganzen Tag 10 Lev (1 Lev = 05. cts/Rappen). Man macht sich auf einer passenden Liege breit oder holt sich eine vom Stapel - einkassiert wird später von einem Kassierer. Das Meer ist sehr sauber und war im August ”badewannenwarm”. Der kilometerlange ”Goldstrand” ist sehr flach abfallend und speziell für kleine Kinder gut geeignet. Ebenfalls 5 Min vom Hotel ist der zum Vergnügunspark ausgebaute Hafen mit 10 sehr guten Restaurants für jeden Geschmack - ich habe pro Mahlzeit mit Vorspeise/Hauptgericht, Getränken und Kaffee nie mehr als 20 Franken bezahlt. Ein Espresso kostet 0.75 Rappen! 2 Liter einheimisches Bier kommt auf 2.5 Franken zu stehen. Rechts vom Hotel hat es eine kilometerlange Promenade, welche durch ca. 30 Restaurants und diversen Strandbars vom Strand trennen. Allesamt empfehlenswert und extrem günstig bei sehr guter Qualität. Bezahlt wird cash mit Lev oder Kreditkarte - einige Bars akzeptieren nur Lev. Euro sind nicht gefragt - Wechselstuben findet man 15 Min vom Hotel im Stadtzentrum (App ”maps.me” sehr empfehlenswert, da Karten auch offline verfügbar; Exchange in der Nähe ”The New Yorker” zu sehr kundenfreundlichen Kursen.) Tipp: Niemals Geld auf der Strasse wechseln - ein Betrug ist fast 100% sicher! Leider beherrschen die wenigsten Bulgaren Englisch - am ehesten Junge; mit Händen und Füssen gehts immer. Essen: Nicht empfehlenswert sind Rindssteaks, da diese eher unbekannt sind. Fleischbällchen, Würste und Huhn dafür in allen Variationen und natürlich fangfrischen Fisch & Meerfrüchte - meist sehr lecker vom Grill. Fazit: Sehr empfehlenswert für alle, denen die Lage sehr wichtig ist und dafür etwas Verkehrslärm/Rummelplatz im Hafen nicht stört. Was sofort auffält: Varna ist eine sehr saubere Stadt - ich habe nie Abfall herumliegen gesehen. Flüge nach Varna mit Austrian Airlines via Wien - leider nur extrem wenige Direktflüge aus der Schweiz. Tipp: Flughafentransfer nicht vom Hotel organisieren lassen - Sie bestellen ein normales Taxi und berechnen dafür 15 Franken. Taxi selber direkt am Flughafen nehmen und 7.5 Franken bezahlen!

- Overall the Hotel is newly built, the exterior looks really appealing, interior of the hotel and the rooms are kept very clean. - The food is very good, fresh. Just a small thing I’d like to mention, on the first day of our stay, there were not many people in the restaurant, but the food (salad, appetizer, main, desert) were excellent. But on the other days, where more people were in the restaurant, the quality of the food went down a little bit, most probably because of the rush, but still it was very good. - “Sea Salt Restaurant”, the one which is in the hotel, once again, the quality and price ratio is excellent. If you are comming from a richer country, the prices in the restaurant and the food which is served is really great. We could not havr found a better restaurant in Golden Sands, which has really good prices, and the excellent quality of the food (tip: I highly recommend getting the Half Board or All Inclusive) - Staff is very friendly, expect for one waiter, who probably is the administrator of other waiters, he wasn’t friendly with us, most probably because we were as a young couple. For instance, we came to the dinner, and he saw us, but did not let us to a table, while an older couple came in and he let them to the table and served them. In other days, he was the same during breakfast and dinner times. But all the other waiters were very friendly and chatty. - A heated pool is outside the hotel with sunbeds. It is not big, but it works because the hotel is not big as other hotels in Golden Sands. - View to the sea is amazing (I recommend getting the room with Sea View on the 4th floor, trust me, it is worth the extra money) - Cleaning lady was cleaning rooms every day. - Beds were very comfy, but the pillow was a little too thin. - Balcony was quiet big. - Overall the hotel is in a calmer place, but there was an ongoing construction in front of the hotel, but they were working only during the day - The distance to all the clubs, restaurants and the overall fun is about 20 minutes. - All in all, we were satisfied with the hotel and if you are planning on visiting the Varna and would like to have more peace and calmness during your stay, choose this hotel.

Anfang Juli 2024 per Pauschalreise in diesem Hotel gewesen. Zimmer: war soweit in Ordnung für den Preis. Eigener Balkon mit tollem Meerblick (7te Etage), allerdings hellhörig. Man hört das Nachbarzimmer und weiß genau, was die 2 Turteltauben dort nachts machen 😉 Toilettenspülung läuft lange nach (laut) und der Duschvorhang geht nicht bis zum Boden (nasses Bad) Essen+Trinken: Nicht viel Auswahl pro Mahlzeit. Manche Speisen wechseln auch mal. Um die Kaffeemaschine ist es immer dreckig und das Personal kümmert sich nicht darum. Qualität des Essens lässt zu wünschen übrig. Lieber außerhalb essen gehen. Geld sparen und auf All-inclusive verzichten!! Getränke sind bei den Mahlzeiten inbegriffen. Von 10-18 Uhr ist die Poolbar und von 19-22 Uhr die Lobbybar geöffnet. Anlage: Ein Hochhaus mit insgesamt 11 Etagen und 3+2 Fahrstühlen. Von den 3 war einer meist immer Kaputt, Incl Personen darin. Eine schöne große Terrasse zum Entspannen und ein Pool sind vorhanden, ebenso ein Indoorpool für die regnerischen Tage. Größere Lobby und Spa (beides nicht in Anspruch genommen) gibt es ebenfalls. Fazit: Wer keine hohen Ansprüche hat, kann hier gerne hin. Ich war tagsüber nur unterwegs (am Strand, Varna oder Tagestrips) und nutzte am Abend den Balkon um den Tag ausklingen zu lassen. Bulgarien, ich komme wieder, aber nicht in diesem Hotel 😉

Das Hotel hat unsere Erwartungen vollkommen erfüllt. Die Zimmer waren sauber, das Personal sehr freundlich und die Aussicht sensationell. Die Hostess Ekatharina hat uns super Tipps für Besichtigungen gegeben und war jederzeit sehr hilfsbereit, Sie hat unseren Aufenthalt rundum perfekt gemacht! Den einzigen Minus Punkt würde ich dem Spa Bereich geben, das Türkische Bad war leider nicht sehr ansprechend und als wir in die Sauna wollten waren im Vorraum die Handwerker. Die Zimmer nach hinten raus waren sehr geräumig und auch Nachts hat man nichts von der Partymeile mitbekommen.

A hotel of 50/50 opinion. But i wont choose it again. The reception staff is kind. No objection. No free parking at the hotel and even so it is small and we had to search to park in other place. Every parking lot is of 20leva/day. If you park somewhere outside a parking lot, wont pass several minutes and your car will be evacuated, 50eu and you can have your car back)) so dont risk. The pool, didnt like it. The water is clean but the rest is dirty and old. The hotel is really old fashioned, good rooms are those that look at the beach and pool. Be sure when you make reservation so the room is with balcony. The restaurant: it is mentioned that is 3 star (even the hotel is 4star) but i could give only 2 stars here. I am not a picky person but i never saw such a dirty restaurant. Always food on the floor and nobody cleans it, the tables dirty and sticky. The plates are dirty, the food is not tasty at all, i could eat only that dish that cant be messed up))) eggs, spagetti)) in the morning is totally everything the same, only the sweets are changing sometimes. From fruits in the morning: oranges and grapefruits. Evening: plums, peach, once grapes. From meat i could eat only chicken. So the restaurant per general is awful. Sorry but thats true. The room was ok. Nothing special. The only good thing of this hotel is the location, first line, not in the center where is very noisy but in 5min you can walk to the center.
