"Excellent location! Right next to a museum and a miniature village, plus a 100-year-old railway. There's a theater and a little shop nearby where we'd buy fish and chips almost every day, and a Tesco Express too. We really enjoyed the evening entertainment with singers. The staff were friendly and calm, and the large lobby and bar downstairs were a bonus. I fell in love with this hotel from the photos, and it completely exceeded our expectations. Thank you to the staff!"

"Für ein 4-Sterne-Hotel war dies sehr enttäuschend. Nur 1 Person auf der Rezeption und eine Warteschlange von Leuten, die auf eine Eincheckung warten. Ein sehr müdees Hotel, das nicht gut gepflegt wurde. Unser Zimmer war enttäuschend, ein Balkon, den wir nicht nutzen konnten, ein Doppelbett, das fühlte, als ich die ganze Nacht aus ihm schleifte, als die Matratze war gebraucht und auf meiner Seite des Bettes weich gelaufen war, ein unbehagliches Toilette, da der Sitz zu klein war für das WC. Auch viele andere kleine Dinge haben wir besser erwartet."

"After reading some of the reviews, my partner and I were worried about our three day stop. We shouldn't have. Our room was clean and neat, with our own bathroom. Not perfect, of course, but this was only £40 a night for a small double. There is no useable outdoor pool or hot tub, as shown in older photos. However, there is an indoor pool and fantastic sauna and steam room.... I've never had them in a hotel at that price. There was plenty of tea and coffees in the room and a hairdryer, too. No breakfast, but a short walk away is Applebys pub. They do an amazing breakfast starting at 7:30 am. There is free parking at the hotel for 7 cars, but parking is available on the street also. This was a fantastic base for us and walkable to the marina."

"This place is a gem ! Raj and his wife are a joy to meet. There’s no problem Raj can’t sort. My room number 7 was airy and immaculate. The double bed was very comfortable and made daily. The breakfast was fantastic and cooked to order. You help yourself to coffee, toast orange juice and cereal. It’s a five minute walk to centre where’s there’s loads of bars etc. Bit of a note, coming back is a slight hill then steps up to hotel and rooms…but obviously it’s not the hotel’s fault. I’d go back anytime as it’s my go to hotel. Great 👍"

"We used to visit this place quite often living locally as the food and atmosphere was really lovely, and then unfortunately it changed hands so stopped going as the menu had changed beyond belief from good quality pub grub to fairground hotdogs and more fast food. And then we noticed Sunday roasts were on the menu so thought we'd give it another go...what a mistake that was. We ordered the large mix meat roast, the meat if you call it meat was thin slices of luke warm tasteless process rubbish and the vegetables were frozen and over cooked. Goodness knows what you'd get if you ordered the smaller roast as our larger roasts came with only 3 potatoes, one frozen Yorkshire pudding and watery gravy. There were so many dogs on extendable leads making it quite dangerous for those carrying drinks and food...I for one nearly tripped over one of the leads just trying to pass. It appears no care has been put in place ensuring an enjoyable visit, and we certainly will not be returning."

"Ein wundervolles Hotel aus der alten Zeit. Natürlich ist die Ausstattung etwas in die Jahre gekommen aber alleine das Dinner ist eine tolle Erfahrung, toller Service im alten Stil. Danach geht es in die Bar zum Kaffee. Das Dinner hatte live pianobegleitung und in der Bar eine Sängerin. Wunderschöner alter Aufzug .es war wie eine Zeitreise. Der Besitzer ist sehr nett"

"The hotel itself was nice; can’t fault it. Our room however, had a weird, stale smell and was off-putting, with no way to ventilate the room by opening the windows, as you cannot open them - A/C is not a natural ventilation. Bed was comfortable, slept perfectly fine, just not nice waking up with the smell, as mentioned before. Breakfast was good, although I’ve had better."

"I had the best time at Charterhouse, the owners are so lovely, warm, and welcoming. The room was cosy, comfortable, and clean, there's also a mini fridge, which was really handy. Breakfast is delicious with a great selection. The coast is a 5-minute walk away as well as pretty country trails. If you just want to relax, Charterhouse has lots of spaces to do so, and the added bonus of a pool. Cannot recommend highly enough, and I look forward to my next visit."
