Stayed overnight on the 9th May 2025 Found the staff friendly and welcoming The room was good loved having a bath we had a really good night's sleep the bed was so comfy Not a criticism but could have done with a chair maybe The breakfast was great as well everything you could want and plenty of it Would definitely recommend

We Had a lovely meal,value for money meat pie was perfect, served bye a very polite, helpfull young lady called Ellie, who went up and down the stairs with meals with a smile on her face, she deserves a treat for all the miles she must do every day

This is the first hotel I’ve ever stayed in anywhere in the world where rooms don’t get serviced or towels replaced overnight. So we came back on our second night and had no clean towels and the beds hadn’t been made! Event cheap b&bs do that! Oh and we were in our second room because the first room they allocated was near to the kitchen fans so it stank of cooking and had paint chipped off all the walls. This really is very poor.

Wonderful hotel and pub with lots of character. Nicest in Richmond. Staff super friendly, food is fab, room was lovely, location with parking is perfect. We will definitely be back thank you! Breakfast was perfectly cooked with lots of choice, great coffee Evening meal was delicious

Best thing about this hotel is the location and the fact it has parking, The room was VERY SMALL, and dark, in need of updating and brightening up. Bathroom tiny and badly in need of renovation, My husband struggled in the tiny shower. No plug socket near any mirror, and no lights near any mirrors so no chance of seeing to do make up it hair, to be fair the bed was comfortable, but at 125 for the night would really have expected a bit more. Staff not ober friendly , apart from the younger girl at breakfast who was lovely, Breakfast was OK, but nothing to shout about, Sorry but don't think I would stay again

We went for a family meal, none of us in all. Seated in the snug, which was lovely, table service for drinks was a nice touch, but slow. Meals ordered, all standard pub fare, steak & ale pie, gammon, fish & chips, sausage & mash etc. Food took ages to arrive, then arrived in dribs and drabs over fifteen minutes. The fish & chips and gammon were lovely. But the sausage and mash was cool and the pies, were still frozen in the middle. The staff were very apologetic and took them back to the kitchen and they came back out (new pies) ten minutes later seriously hot, but like when you overheat things in the microwave, the pastry tops were inedible. Also....and it's a nitpick really, the garden peas, were old, tough peas. The bar staff couldn't have been more apologetic, removed these four meals from the bill and a 20% discount on the rest, which was much appreciated, but it did rather spoil a family occasion.

A friend who lives in Richmond booked a room for us, bed and breakfast for four nights, £150 a night. Our room had a double bed and two singles but nowhere to sit. Throughout our stay the room was very cold. Apart from the first morning, our bed remained unmade despite putting the sign on the door to say the room was available. When we went into breakfast we ordered a bacon sandwich each. Unfortunately they’d been made with sweet brioche baps. We had the full English the rest of the time, which was much better. We had two evening meals, both of which were mediocre. The last night of our stay the bar had run out of beer! The best thing about the Black Lion is its location as it is in the town centre. It’s definitely in need of some TLC. Not worth the money and would not recommend it to anyone.

This place used to be the best for food, especially Sunday lunches. Not sure what's changed but our last visit in August was very disappointing. Food was pretty awful and the service poor. Hopefully it gets back to it's former glory. Such a shame

We spent one night at the Black Lion and overall it was good value for money. Bar / dining area were nice. Bedroom was quite dark as the window was off to one side but it's an old building and no doubt the window was in a better spot somewhere in the buildings history ... rooms lighting was very good though. Breakfast was really good. Parking at bsck of property. Just 2 min stroll into the main square and Richmond castle just a bit further. No negatives and well worth a visit.

We have stayed here before but the meet and greet was not that great. The room we stayed in and even the inconvenience of the bathroom across the hall didn’t dampen our stay. I didn’t bang my head on the ceiling with the low alcove. Room was clean. Breakfast lady was nice but rather regimental but again Breakfast was good. So the mark down was the meet and greet that’s all.

Restaurant terrible. Waited about 15 minutes for menus and drink orders for four at a very non-busy 5pm. Food was hit miss, mostly miss. But when we ordered dessert, it got crazy. We placed an order for a dessert that we were told took 30 minutes to prepare. At 30 minutes the waiter came back and said “Sorry, I only just heard that we don’t have the ingredients.” So we change the order. We waited another 15 minutes. A different waiter came back and said “I’m so sorry we don’t have any of the ingredients for desserts.” Charged full price for dinner. What in the world.

Had a fantastic meal with my wife at at The Black lion, staff were lovely and the food was great all home cooked, we had the set menu which was great value the only down side was the crumble which seemed to be made with Alpen breakfast cereal which didn’t taste good at all but Everything else was lovely

Went for Sunday lunch Roast beef was delicious and plentiful the cauliflower cheese was excellent Will definitely be back Dog friendly which is also an added bonus lots of treats and water for the dogs Great selection of beers and wine Staff extremely helpful and attentive

Stopped off in Richmond whilst away camping, came to the black lion for Sunday lunch as a walk in with my partner and wow we are so glad we did! One of the best Sunday lunches I’ve had out ever, if not the best! Would highly recommend, chicken was cooked to perfection
