Ocean Stays Hotel, Plymouth

We stayed here for a week in a room with a small kitchenette. We had everything that we needed for simple meals and the room and bathroom were well equipped and clean. We could have done with a little more clothes storage but then we had come for a week! The hotel is well situated for exploring Plymouth without needing a car. It is within easy walking distance of The Hoe, the Barbican, the City Centre, Royal Parade for buses and the railway station.

We liked the room itself - comfortable bed, decent amount of space and tidy bathroom. Unfortunately, this satisfaction didn’t last long; the room didn’t include the pod-style coffee machine that was advertised, there was no shampoo/conditioner in the shower, we were provided 2 full sized towels with visible stains on them and were disappointed with a basement room after paying for the ‘King room” which was advertised with photos of a much nicer room upstairs. Also worth mentioning, 1 night into our stay, the included Netflix account with aptly named profile “Whoever is staying here plz use this one” stopped working citing “This TV isn’t part of your Netflix household”. The rooms are not soundproofed nearly enough; we heard people walking up and down the stairs late at night, arguments in other rooms and the door swinging shut at the top of the stairs (who decided to omit a soft-close mechanism in a property with such sub-par soundproofing??) The location of the property however, was tremendous; a short walk from the Hoe, City centre and Walkabout bus stop. Would not consider staying with this chain again, they don’t stack up compared to Marriott hotels like Moxy and are of a similar price. Overall, fairly disappointing.

Utterly terrible. Room was beside a maintenence room with very loud noises. Contacted the company who could do nothing about it and had no alternative rooms. I had to book a different hotel and they have completely failed to make any contact since with either me or **********

Exceptional standards, this is my forth time I’ve stopped there and I’ve never been let down, Barry the manager goes above and beyond and nothing is to much trouble to make your stay comfortable. It is so clean and the standards are so high I won’t stay anywhere else, I would recommend Ocean Stays to anybody and I’ve just booked up again for next year. It’s literally two minutes from Plymouth Hoe and I would say five minutes into the town centre. I would give my stay a 10 out of 10 I would recommend this place to anybody. A big THANKYOU to management and cleaners for making our stay so pleasant.

Bad from start to finish ,bad communication ,can't get hold of anyone to check in ,room shabby ,very dated ,front door broke ,hubby and I are nearly pensioner's we were in the very top of hotel ,no lift ,about 6 sets of stairs, I was litterlally crawling up the stairs ,surly they look at date of birth ,I t spoiled my stay and I would never stay again

I have been toing and froing with the hotel since staying there: my wife and baby stayed for one night and there was no hot water. Although someone was sent out to check this it was still not working by the early morning (6am) when they had to leave). I've asked for a 50% refund but nothing has been forthcoming. We won't be staying again.

I booked using ********** I arrived early. Couldn't get hold.of anyone for.checking in. Waited around until 3.pm. then contact them and was told they had no record.of my booking, although I gave them every detail I had. I was then told to forward them all my emails/receipts/ details of booking and they would review it and get back to me. After not hearing for 40.minutes I chased them up to be told.that although all correspondence proved I had made the booking and paid for it....... they still couldn't meet it and that I would receive an email explaining why. Still waiting for the Email as I attempt to sleep in an unused garage by Plymouth coach station, as I have no money Credit to use, and everywhere within my budget is fully booked. It's now nearly 1 am and still haven't received an email, explanation or offer of refund. Homeless for the night I guess?? Never use them, for any reason, customer service terrible and essentially took my money and left me waiting/sleeping in a doorway until the morning! Won't use them or ********** again!!!

The whole house is clean esp the room we stayed in had everything we needed fridge microwave 2 ring hob kettle etc and nice and warm location is ideal Not far from public transport Plymouth Hoe the barbican Definatelly will stay there next time we come to Plymouth

The room was more than adequate and the decor of the hotel really lovely; 'understated elegance'. The checkin process was easy enough and the online information book excellent. The situation, halfway between the Hoe and the city centre and easy walking distance from the station is also very good. All the main tourist venues are easily accessible on foot. The only negative is that we did not have a coffee machine. As we had a kettle instead that was not over important.
