British Hotel Girne

Begrüßung durch einen älteren Herrn, der sehr hilfsbereit und höflich war. Geben Sie uns unseren Zimmerschlüssel. Als wir im Zimmer ankamen, war es ekelhaft! Die Bettwäsche war vom letzten Bewohner nicht gewechselt worden. In der Bettdecke konnte man noch immer die Umrisse ihrer Beine und Füße erkennen. Das Laken war vom Bett. Ein Raum voller Staub und einem abgestandenen Geruch. Viele Extras für nur 87 €. Dieses Hotel bräuchte dringend eine Renovierung und Reinigung. Ich bin alles andere als wählerisch, aber ich denke, dass Sauberkeit unerlässlich ist. Ich weigerte mich, dort zu bleiben und beantragte eine Rückerstattung. Der ordentliche Herr rief die Hotelbesitzerin/-managerin an, da sie sich außerhalb des Hotelgeländes aufhielt, um zu erfahren, dass keine Rückerstattung erfolgt. Sie können warten, bis die Reinigungskraft das Problem in ca. 30 Minuten erledigt. Nicht gut genug, ich bin geschäftlich hier und habe ein wichtiges Meeting, ich wollte vorher nur duschen und mich umziehen. 5 Minuten später entschied die Hotelbesitzerin, dass sie „diese Art von Kunden“ nicht in ihrem Hotel haben wollte. Ich war ein wenig verwirrt, warum sie nicht wollte, dass ein Kunde ein sauberes Zimmer in ihrem Hotel hat? Aber ok ... ich bin mir sicher, dass es ein toller Zufluchtsort für Katzen sein wird und die Putzfrau ihren Kaffee und ihre Zigarette austrinken kann, bevor sie irgendetwas tun muss! Vermeiden Sie dieses Hotel/verherrlichte Katzenschutzgebiet. Der Check-in war um 14:00 Uhr, ich kam um 15:30 Uhr an.

Booked the last two available rooms at short notice, one for myself and one for my elderly mother. Both were perfectly adequate as a base of operations for enjoying the sights and delights of Girne and visiting North Cyprus generally. The rooms had the usual: hairdryers, desks, chairs, TV, kettle, and drinks fridge, and the mattresses on the beds were all new. Both rooms had ensuite bathrooms that were perfectly functional. Bedding and towels were changed frequently (more often than needed really) and rooms were cleaned daily. All the staff we met were friendly, helping us book tours, allowing us to practice our terrible Turkish, etc. Breakfast was typical Turkish fare and made for a healthy start to the day - several different cheeses, olives, bread, jams, and a choice of egg fried, boiled or omelette, fresh fruit, and tea or coffee. We particulary enjoyed looking out over the waking harbour while eating. There's also a rooftop terrace with fantastic views which we visited repeatedly, though sadly the bar was closed this late in the season. Whether this is the kind of hotel you would enjoy largely depends - I suspect - on your underlying expectations. For some, the hotel itself is the destination, and things going on outside a bonus. And most of the large new, luxury/casino hotels in Girne are in distant, inconvenient locations anyway. Our priority was to be in the heart of the old town, near the harbour, wedged in among the promenaders, the buzz, and the many different sights and experiences. The hotel was just a place for sleeping, cleaning and organizing excursions. So the lack of luxury facilities and upmarket decor was a trade-off we willingly accepted.
