Clarion Hotel Townsville

We stayed for one night and were pleased with the location, amenities and nice friendly service. The room was well set up with a foyer area that had a pod coffee machine and kitchenette. The aircon worked well, there was a large TV, and free Internet. The area around the hotel was ok, with a few choices for meals. Central Townsville is fairly quiet with a lot of closed shops and not much happening. The service was great and they had our room ready around 12 for early check-in, the lady on the reception desk phoned me when it was ready. The beds were very comfy and overall it was spacious. They do need to improve the lighting tho, it was very gloomy in the main living area over the table and desk. There was good lighting at bedside but even a free standing lamp with bright LED bulbs would fix it for the rest of the room. They have a taxi call system at reception where if there is no-one on the front desk you can simply press a button for the taxi.

Love staying at this place when I’m Townsville for business, looks old from the outside but don’t be fooled, brilliantly presented and comfortable, the bed is epic and a good nights sleep means the world

Room was musty on arrival. Likely hadn’t been used or cleaned in weeks. Room decor would have been nice when renovated, but was poorly maintained and very tired. Glassware, coffee cups and teaspoons all mismatched. Just cheap in every way. The final straw was when I went to have a shower in the morning to find no towels at all. There are much better options in Townsville so would not recommend

The room was comfortable and spacious, but as with all hotels of this age, the bathroom lighting is very poor (overhead) and the bench space is non existent. Most disappointing aspect was the billing after I left, the hotel sent a tax invoice indicating charges to my card, even though o had paid for the room service separately. The ensuing exchanges with the hotel were frustrating and non productive as well as the person at the hotel not including their name in the exchanges. This experience alone is the reason for the poor review.

Without being critical, we have to say that it was the wrong choice for our holiday purpose. The hotel is located within the central business area. The location is more suitable for business type travelers, away from more tourist area such as Strand which is closer to the beach. As such the area does not have much of a choice relating to eating, drinking and entertainment. The hotel is located in a four story building. Only floor level 1 and 2 are allocated to the hotel. Majority of the hotels rooms are exposed to either Sturt Street or the Stanley Street. The windows did not appear to be double glazed as some traffic noise was heard in the room. As the traffic level is very low during the night, this noise level was not a major issue. We were first allocated room 205, which had issues with the curtain rail runners. As such the curtains did not close properly. The road side lighting pole was just next to the room and the light itself was next to the room. Together with these issues night time sleep was adversely affected. At our request we were moved to another room 203. This room was much better. Some traffic noise was heard particularly when the vehicles make high acceleration after being stopped at the traffic lights (being at the junction) At level one of the hotel, there is a little common area with a large size refrigerator, microwave, cloth washing machine and a cloth dryer. The cloth washing powder, crockery & cutlery, tea, coffee were also available at this common area. The reception staff and cleaning staff were very friendly and helpful right through our stay.

We were going to drive into Townsville earlier than anticipated, and a phone call to enquire if we could check-in earlier was very friendly and accommodating. The check-in staff were helpful and amiable. We parked our larger car in the 'top' carpark (unsecured, no cover). Our room was 2 queen beds, modern ensuite, great little kitchen space - all well appointed. We don't drink coffee but noticed one of those pod coffee machines, as well as tea/milk, microwave and ample crockery and cutlery. Great for our one-night stopover.

The room had been recently sanitized with so much pinesol it was oppressive. No windows could opened to air it out. It was a dark room and we only had 1 bath towel apiece. It seemed clean. Staff was friendly. Parking is free but minuscule. It was ok for 1 night.

Really glad we selected this hotel. It is just on the edge of the city shoppingprecinct and close to the stadium and not too fare from the wharf(ferries). The room was spacious for the price paid and everything was maintained well.

Our room was a good size. You could actually walk around. Bathroom a good size, but the star of the show was the bed and pillows. Best king size bed in a hotel I have come across. The laundry and kitchen was very convenient. The central location made things easy.
