I visited The Angel on Friday 29th February 2024. After an initial very awkward conversation on the phone to book a High Tea treat for my great auntie as a thank you for her support recently, and I asked if my mother could accompany us who has severe allergies - initially I was told that she would be “expected to eat if she was siting with us”, however after explaining that her allergies are so severe and is advised by her consultant to not eat outside due to the risk of contamination they allowed an extra seat to be added to our table. When we sat down at our table the waiter’s attitude was very sarcastic/arrogant. Despite explaining on the phone that my mother wouldn’t be able to eat or drink anything - he insisted on giving her a menu and passing a few comments and eye rolls that she “couldn’t even drink tea”. The food was outstanding and the selection of tea was tremendous but this was all overshadowed by the service we received around 1 member of the party who couldn’t eat but wanted to be able to join us for a special occasion. To top of the visit, when I bit into my scone I discovered a bit of plastic (see pictures), when I called the waiter over to highlight it to the kitchen, he said words to the effect of “thank you for telling me” he offered me another scone and walked off without taking my plate to show the kitchen! I have bought High Tea for Two as a gift for another family member, but I after our experience this week I shall not be recommending or returning them very disappointed.
