So Touquet

I take no pleasure in writing this review but I really should read reviews of others more carefully because it’s what’s not mentioned that can let so called highly rated establishments down. SoTouquet is such a disappointment it beggars belief that it can be rated as highly as it is. First impression was how delightful, set as it is in a very pretty part of the forest close to Le Touquet. We were truly looking forward to our 3 day stay but on arrival were a bit put out by the steep and winding stairway leading up to the front door then, only to discover another steep and narrow staircase to the upper level suite accommodation. The proprietor Jean-Francois was not the most welcoming of hosts but he helped with our luggage which was appreciated following several hours of driving. Being in our 70s is not an issue but traversing stairs with a dodgy leg can be. We had booked the suite which at first glance looked huge and mightily impressive but acclimatise to the quirky surroundings and the shine starts to dim due to mainly to neglect in important areas. This guest accommodation was grubby with the interior of a wardrobe positively filthy. (images available) The toilet surround was soiled with splash stains of who knows what at the back and further inspection showed up soiled areas and hair within the shower room and by the sink. (images available). The turning point was drying my hands on a small flannel only to smell the odour of stale water on them. I advised the host of these issues and told him that we would be checking out. His response was both negative and surly and he asked “what about the booking?” I advised him that I had a number of images on my phone and that put a stop to his complaining. For the record this location is more than a mile out of the centre of Le Touquet and not an easy stroll. We checked into The Westminster Hotel which ticked all of the boxes (see review). We booked this place for 3 nights,not really knowing anything about it.We were certainly not disappointed.I initially I was surprised it was a villa,but it was really beautiful,in the most glorious location.The house inside has been furnished with love and thoughtfulness. The jewel in the crown was Jean-Francois,he clearly has immaculate taste,our room was spotless with a lovely veranda.The gardens and patios were lovely with beautiful garden furniture..He was a perfect host.All his recommendations for restaurant were spot on.We also had a delicious breakfast every morning.We were very lucky that the other guests were really lovely and we were like minded people. We shall certainly return,hopefully sooner rather than later.We arrived as guests and left as friends.

We had a lovely stay at “So Touquet“ – a beautiful home set in lovely, secluded grounds and sheltered by mature trees. Our room (the most expensive option at these premises) was large and included a corner bath in the bedroom as well as a separate & excellent “Walk In” shower / WC. Our host, Jean Francois, was welcoming, friendly and approachable and provided good advice for two excellent nearby restaurants that we ate at. We had expected a better experience with “consumables“ e.g. the miniature shower gels (which were not replaced during our stay) and particularly the availability of toilet rolls - we started our stay with a single (part used) roll and had to ask for more….twice, during our 3 days stay – both embarrassing and unacceptable…..particularly at this “luxury price point”. The breakfast was nice (especially as we were able to enjoy it each morning on the patio, due to the beautiful weather) Plentiful fresh bread, pastries and home made jams but portions of cheese and ham were small and some fresh fruit would have been appreciated. Although we had the most expensive room available, this didn’t entitle us to use the front garden and patio (other than for breakfast) for the main part of the day, although we were allowed to use of the rear garden and loungers were provided for us. We presumed this was for the privacy of the guests with rooms on the ground floor, but a good compromise, we think, would be to allow all guests to enjoy the gardens up until …. say 18.00 each day. Le Touquet is a beautiful place to which we will return – it’s peaceful, relaxed and charming. The beach is amazing, beautiful sand, absolutely huge and ideal for all types of visitors.

Booked through another (***********) for 4 nights in June emailed 5 months in advance for clarity on access as my wife has mobility issues due to cancer treatment and cannot do stairs. On arrival we were presented with 15+ stairs to enter the premises. Struggled for 2 days then had to call it a day, charged for 4 nights 786 euros, no response again to requests for refund. It is a beautiful property but be aware that breakfast is bread, pastries and preserves with a homemade yogurt plus tea or coffee. There is no air con and windows need to be closed to keep out wasps ! Terrace room is ok but bedding is not obviously clean ? (Dark blue everything) windows will open but wasps are everywhere especially in the bathroom. Bath is huge jacuzzi style with a handheld shower but is very high to get in and out and slippery too. We assumed owner lived elsewhere but now lives on site with dog.

Set in a quiet and private location this is a great place to book especially if you have all 3 rooms. Very clean and tasteful decor. 25 min walk to the beach with walking and cycling paths everywhere. Access not for the infirm but that is pointed out on the web site We had a great 3 days and would highly recommend this as a base to explore Le Touqet and the surrounding area.

La plupart des avis déjà rédigés pour la villa So Touquet sont dithyrambiques et c'est plus que mérité ! Très bon accueil, petit déjeuner copieux avec des produits de qualité. Le propriétaire avec qui on prend plaisir à discuter est très sympathique, la décoration faite avec goût et la literie très confortable. Merci à Jean-François et Pidgey pour leur accueil, je recommande vivement !

Inoubliable Séjour de 3 Nuitées dans une Magnifique Villa si calme et verdoyante. Le Propriétaire y est si accueillant qu'il ne sait que faire pour rendre notre séjour des plus agréables! Nous avons également beaucoup apprécié son adorable petit chien. Nous ne pouvons que vous recommander cet endroit tant nous l'avons adoré!
