Le Mouton Blanc

The reception and my hotel room were like 200 M away from each other. In the afternoon, the path is crowded by tourists visiting the Mont-St-Michel Abbey, which makes your walk to your room not so easy. However, since your hotel is on the island, you can enjoy the walk through Mont-St-Michel in the night or early morning, when there are almost no tourists.

Habitacione muy buena, con ventana a la bahía. Limpia y acogedora. Desayuno bastante bien y rico de variedades para todos los tipos de gustos. Sin ascensor, pero es un edificio antiguo se entiende. Lo unico incomodo la recepción en otro hotel

Very glad we spent the night inside the village of Mont St Michel. It is a magical place once the day visitors leave. It has a very Harry Potter feel. The lighting on the empty streets, the sound of the ocean from the ramparts, the winding cobblestone streets make the premium you pay for a small, ancient room worth it. Our room, though very tiny, had been updated to the best that could be expected. You pay for the location, not the accommodation. It was very easy to find the reception to check in, and they hold your luggage so you can investigate the island and the abbey until your room is ready. We did have a bit of difficulty locating our room. The rooms are scattered through the alleyways, and though the clerk gave us good instructions on the map and told us to go through the brown door, when we located the brown door in the area he indicated, our room number was not included on the rooms within. Eventually, we did find our room. We’re glad we paid the premium to stay on island.

Upon entering the ground floor, I notice garbage strewn steps and hallways, in the hotel. The linoleum gives way to dirty carpeting. I find my room at the very top of a narrow, winding staircase. I open the door and find a narrow space to enter between the door and a beam holding up the roof. The carpets are dirty. The bathroom grout is dirty. Breakfast consists of cold scrambled eggs and stale pasteries. Shockingly bad & unsafe. There is no way that the hotel or rooms pass fire code.

Our hotel rooms were spotless and - as expected- small, historic and comfortable. The only issue with our accommodations was the lack of information given us when booking concerning how and where to check in. Booking was via the Mont Saint-Michel site- quite easy and efficient. Unfortunately, no information concerning HOW we were to physically check in was supplied with our reservation. We discovered- after an hour of dragging suitcases up and down steep steps amidst hordes of tourists clogging the main thoroughfare- that there is apparently a centralized "check in" site for the various local hotels- a fact which we were not aware of...the site discovered only through the kindness of locals. After said check in we were directed to our rooms- which were actually in an annex near a church....not, again, a free-standing hotel, per se. Please note that the breakfast was actually served in a side room of the restaurant of the Mouton Blanc Auberge- which we then realized must be a hotel...just not the site of our actual rooms. Confused? Yes. in summary, be aware of the check-in snafu and all shall be well. subsequent check-out took approximately two minutes in the same centralized locale. the hotel rooms are lovely, simple, well- appointed, and situated in an obviously astonishing locale that is well- worth the climb. Just pay attention to the above....and PACK LIGHT

We weren’t expecting much and so we weren’t too disappointed with our room. Very small and sparsely decorated. Couldn’t open the bathroom door without hitting the bed. Lots of stairs to climb. But it was clean. The experience of staying on the island when the crowds of people leave is worth it. Beautiful quiet streets and the first entry to the Abbey.

We couldn’t wait to spend the night on the Mont, and booked a room in the annex building ( Jeanne d’Arc). We packed a light backpack and started the trek through what seemed like a million people to get to the hotel. But no, you have to walk back down to a different hotel and wait in a long line to get your key to then go on a wild goose chase to find your unmarked room up a dozen stairs. I will say that the gentleman who checked us in way very nice and helpful. By the time we found our room we were covered in sweat and of course No AC in this tiny matchbox of a room. Honestly, staying on the Mont was nice once the million day trippers left, but very few restaurants stay open. I would highly recommend staying at the village instead of here. The 6am wake up call of street cleaners banging garbage just added to the misery of this place.

The reception is not located in the same site of the hotel. The hotel itself and a restaurant are located in the same place few meters away. Location is convenient if you wanna stay in the island, but this is not necessary to visit Mt. Saint Michel. I didn't feel safe because the keychain with the key of the room have the name of the hotel and room number, so if you loose the key somebody can easily enter in your room. Since the hotel is located in the only street of the Mount, it's very noisy until late night with many people walking, talking, laughing... early morning the street is cleaned and the restaurants receive supplies, so you listen again a lot of noise, now of tools, bottles, containers and small vehicles. Room is OK, shower OK, but the toilet bowl is tiny (the smallest I ever seen). The food at the restaurant could be better and some staff is rude (specially an Asian guy). I wouldn't eat there again. One advantage: for guests of the hotels inside the island: the parking is more convenient, closer to the bus station. But when I reserved the hotel received the instruction to contact them by message 2 days before my arrival to get the access code to the parking lot. I did it twice in 24 hours without answer. I only got the code when called by phone. So be advised about the service they provide.... If you wanna visit Mount Saint Michel, don't stay in the island. To stay in the mainland is cheaper and probably more confortable. Get a room there and take the bus to the island. I would not stay at Le Mouton Blanc again.
